Charming Country Cottage In Poldark's Cornwall

Updated: 11-Oct-2016
Cottage in Tregoodwell, Camelford, Cornwall, England - Peaceful Location, Walk To Shops And Pubs, Short Drive To Beach

Clover Cottage is our charming cottage in the small hamlet of Tregoodwell, near Camelford in North Cornwall. It is on the edge of Bodmin Moor and is close to the monolithic stones at rugged Rough Tor (which can be seen from the deck in the garden), yet is just 5 miles from the beautiful beach at Trebarwith Strand. Built in 1862 it has been thoroughly modernised and has a large eat-in Kitchen and a delightful sitting room with a log burner for cosy nights, free WiFi, books and games. Two large bedrooms are upstairs, one double and one twin room. Also upstairs is a large bathroom with a claw footed bath and separate walk in shower. The back garden is on 3 levels and has a deck at the top with views of the Moor. There is also a summer house there, with table and chairs, where you can sit in peace and write a best seller! It is a short drive from surfing beaches at Polzeath, from beautiful Daymar Bay and Rock, Port Isaac (where Doc Martin is filmed) and the foodie town of Padstow. The Camel trail is close by - cycle from Wadebridge to Padstow along the beautiful Camel Estuary, or cycle to Bodmin. There is free parking in the unadopted square in the hamlet, and there are shops and pubs within walking distance in Camelford. This is our holiday home, and is a lovely place to unwind, I hope you find that too.

About the Owner

I'm Nicola and I have owned Clover cottage for the past 8 years. As a child I used to holiday in Cornwall, and I wanted to recreate those memories with my daughters. My extended family has enjoyed many holidays there, both in winter and summer. There are so many beautiful places to visit in Cornwall, yet we tend to always go back to our favourite beach at Trebarwith Strand, to our favourite walk - up Rough Tor (it's a good climb!) and to eat at the Port William or St Kew Inn.

Tregoodwell is a magical place as it's quiet and relaxing - the perfect place to switch off from my busy city life.

This is such a delightful country cottage. We really enjoyed our stay here, and were able to explore both the beaches and the countryside. We loved the Eden Project, and appreciated all the leaflets and books that gave us information on where to go. Helen and John and Kids.

Thanks for such a great week at Clover Cottage - so cute! I loved sitting on the top deck in the evening, watching the stars come out. Julie

We had a great Mother and daughter bonding time at Clover cottage - it was so comfortable and cosy, and so close to really special places - we used Shirley's taxis to have a few drinks whilst listening to the Fisherman's Friends sing on the beach at Port Isaac - great recommendation. A Glorious Week!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous family holiday in Clover Cottage. Perfect location for exploring the north coast of Cornwall with its fantastic beaches. We also ventured further south and had some great days in beautiful Polperro and Mevagissey, with a fishing trip to catch mackerel which my two young sons adored!

The cottage was very cosy and accommodated all our needs. We enjoyed nights in with a bbq on the top decking one night and a lovely curry from the newly opened take away in Camelford on another.

Nicola was great at answering any questions we had and we very much appreciated the Cornish cider and biscuits on our arrival!

Overall a fantastic week with absolutely glorious weather everyday-we couldn't believe how lucky we were with the blue skies and hot sun.

This cottage is a fantastic place to spend time in Cornwall. Like many of the others who have stayed here, I totally agree that the decor is fantastic! Very calming and a great place to relax in after a long walk on one of the many beaches nearby. Nicola was extremely accommodating, ensuring that we were comfortable for our stay. Looking forward to returning.

Comfortable, cosy, well-located cottage

  • 5 of 5

A lovely stay in this beautiful little cottage. Perfectly located for exploring the stunning north Cornwall coast, places such as Boscastle, Tintagel, Port Isaac and the gorgeous beach at Trebarwith Strand are only a short drive away. Some lovely walks also from the cottage including stunning views from the top of Rough Tor. We enjoyed meals cooked in the well equipped kitchen and cosy evenings in front of the fire. Nicola, the owner, was extremely helpful and answered our queries before and after our stay promptly.

Lovely atmospheric cottage

  • 4 of 5

I found just the perfect cottage to unite members of my US family and my UK family in Cornwall. My interior designer cousin thought it was lovely and charming -- we all felt comfortable -- loved the kitchen and bathroom and both were roomy enough for all of us. We had a very special dinner one evening in the little garden house behind the main house -- watched the stars, listened to birds and caught up with our news. Many happy memories.

Great week in Cornwall

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week in Clover Cottage, the weather was relatively kind to us and we were able to visit many of the local attractions that North Cornwall has to offer.

The cottage is plenty big enough for a small family, with good sized bedrooms and bathroom and a nice big kitchen with everything you would need. (could do with a microwave and a radio but that's me being picky).

Didn't get much use out of the garden as we were out all day but looked a perfect spot for a glass of on a warm summer's evening.

The parking was a bit hit and miss on a couple of evenings, sometimes struggling to find a space but that was mostly due to a new wall being built behind the cottage which took out about 5 spaces.

There are some great places to visit nearby, Lanhydrock being the standout location for us, beautiful house and gardens, plus fantastic cycle tracks that range from easy to slightly more of a challenge.

Port Isaac is beautiful, well worth a visit, as is the Eden Project.

Pub in Camelford (Masons Arms) sells good beer and decent pub grub and is within walking distance. Also there is a really good fish and chip shop!

Overall Clover Cottage lived up to all our expectations, very cosy, clean and a great base for discovering North Corwall.

From the Owner

We wanted a cottage that was within 4 hours of where we live so we could visits for a weekend to recharge our batteries. We stayed at Clover Cottage whilst looking around the area, but nothing seemed as nice as where we were staying. Then 6 months later the owners said they were moving further south and did we want to buy the cottage - so we jumped at the chance, and have been really happy about our decision ever since. In the school summer holidays it's great to be a little away from all the crowded areas. It's just off the A39 so easily accessible by car; the main train line is near

From the Owner

Tregoodwell is a small hamlet in the middle of the countryside but is within a walking distance of shops, pubs, restaurants, and a great fish and chip shop. So it's a great combination of a beautiful place to unwind, with all the conveniences nearby. And there are so many fabulous places to visit just a short drive away - ranging from the Maritime museum at Falmouth, Daphne du Maurier's house at Fowey, to Crealy Adventure Park. Of course if the sun is shining - which it does a lot in Cornwall - there's the Moor behind the cottage, and the beaches just a 15 minute drive away. But why not just spend a few days just relaxing in the cottage itself? There's a a garden on 3 levels, lots of games and dvds, and a great kitchen for the keen cook - I cook more in Cornwall than in the city!
