Lou and Claire moved to the Algarve from Australia and have enjoyed making a new home in Lagos in the Western Algarve.

We were lucky enough to find our Views of Lagos apartment two years ago and happily rented it until having the recent good fortune to purchase it.

It is a very spacious top floor apartment. Of course the views are what draw you in immediately as they span a 180 degree vista, from the mountain of Monchique, across Meia Praia beach and the Bay of Lagos, right across the old town to the ancient city wall.

The loungeroom and balcony have prime views but the nice thing is that every room has a view of something - old town, new town and the old wall.

Being just outside the city wall, the old town is on the doorstep, which makes for great walks and easy shopping and dining. It’s also lovely that the beaches you can see from the apartment are walking distance.

What makes this apartment unique

It is rare to have the combination of views and location. Everything you see you can walk to. Within 30 seconds you are through the wall and in the old town with its cobbled streets and fisherman's cottages.

Even the locals agree that Lagos is authentically Portuguese so you can enjoy meandering around the old town, and still find great places to eat, live music and interesting shops.

Behind the apartment is the local neighbourhood where you will see how the locals live - how they shop and the bars and cafes they frequent. The local fish and fruit and veggie market is here. It’s a real slice of life experience.

At Views of Lagos you are central to absolutely everything . You can just relax around the pool or on the balcony, or take in many interesting local sights.

Notes on accommodation: 'Views of Lagos' is the penthouse apartment in a fully maintained condominium building. Situated in a very central location a car is not required unless you want to explore the wider delights of the Algarve. In which case, there is a very direct route in and out of town and there is easy parking directly outside the building. The apartment is on the top (2nd) floor and as well as stairs, there is a 4-person elevator to the apartment. Enjoy a private semi-circular terrace, which magnificent views of Lagos, and overlooking the large shared pool just below. Outside: The apartment complex has a shared roof terrace and a shared pool area. The apartment has four sun loungers which can be moved to the terrace, pool area or you can enjoy the privacy of your own balcony. A mini Weber barbecue is located on the kitchen balcony. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included and for two-week bookings, they are changed mid stay. Other: As well as two sunny balconies and a huge semi-circular terrace there is also a glassed-in outdoor sunroom which can either be opened up or fully enclosed on cooler evenings. Fab holiday in fab apartment in Lagos. Great location for exploring all that Lagos has to offer by day and night. Apartment was spotless and extremely comfortable. Made good use of roof terrace late in the afternoon. Both Claire and Gail the property manager were very attentive and the airport transfer with Andre worked really well. Would recommend highly.

Perfect Apartment! Perfect Location!

We cannot say enough about this apartment. The whole stay from the apartment, to the location, to the town of Lagos and the nearby beaches exceeded our expectations. The apartment was walking distance to nearby beaches (all within 30 min or less). It was nice to be able to choose from different beaches. But the best was how close it was to the old city walls and entrance. Every night we explored the cobble stoned narrow streets with so much to see and so many restaurants to choose from! Of course we had the fantastic view from the living room and balcony and the pool to cool off after our walks from the beach. The apartment itself could not have been better - clean, spacious, and stocked with everything you need. I could not recommend this place enough. When we come back to Lago, we will definitely stay here! I also want to thank Claire for always being so helpful and answering all of our questions.

Just perfect!

This property is amazing! The apartment is extremely spacious and well appointed - our family of 2 adults and 2 teens was very comfortable there. The location is ideal - right near the action in the center of town (walking distance) yet away from the noise and bustle. The pool was an excellent place to relax and the views from the apartment were gorgeous. The owners and property manager were very responsive and accommodating. I would highly recommend this property.

Very impressed

A very well appointed apartment in a great location. The apartment us very comfortable and even on hot days is refreshingly cool from the through breeze. The pool area is very clean and only used by the few families living in the condominium. Only a short easy walk to town a great bars and food. In two minds whether to keep this a secret. Thanks for the great rental. I am sure we will be back.

Excellent apartment in a great location.

Lovely apartment in great location. Had just about everything we needed, though disappointed there was no access to BBC as would have liked to have been able to watch Wimbledon! Other than that cannot fault the apartment nor the help provided by Gail (building manager).

We didn't do a huge amount of exploring outside Lagos itself, though would certainly recommend a trip to Lagos Zoo (not to be mistaken with ZooMarine which we didn't visit)

Best vacation in a superb location

Claire's condo with its stunning city and sea view was quite spacious for two couples. It's location to the old citiy and beaches is ideal for walking. Parking for the car was free and nearby..We could not ask for a better vacation home. The condo is excellent, clean and bright with lots of windows. Don't look any further! Mike Snow from Ottawa.

By car you can visit Praia da Luz, the Fortress at Sagres as well as many quiet hidden beaches off the beaten track.


Faro airport is a 50 minute drive from Lagos. It is a well serviced international airport and taxis, hire cars and transfers can be easily arranged from here.

Lagos is full of historical interest with it's origins dating as far back as 2000 years BC when it was known as Lacobriga.

Lagos has always had a seafaring connection, originally visited by Phoenicians and Carthaginians and then, during the 15th century, was the base for the 'voyages of the Discoveries' instigated by Henry the Navigator when trade between Africa and Portugal brought a great deal of wealth into the town.

The older part of Lagos is still circled by the city walls that were constructed during the 16th century when it was the residence of the governors of the Algarve and the fort, Ponta da Bandeira, by Batata beach is part of the 17th century fortifications that were added to protect the town.

It is truly authentic in nature and yet it is a hive of activity with excellent shops and facilities, tourist activities and cultural pursuits.

As there are over 220 cafes, bars and restaurants in Lagos, good food, entertainment and night life are here in abundance!
