About the property

St Ives - Peaceful location within a mile of the lively seaside town of St Ives

A beautifully furnished period Cornish cottage in the hamlet of Trowan, just a stone’s throw from the popular sea side town of St Ives. Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and surrounded by ancient farm land, tin mines and spectacular cliff top views of the sea, Trowan is an oasis of calm. Enjoy the best of both worlds with the lively town and beaches of St Ives just a mile away or opt for lazy days in the extensive sea facing garden and patio.

Ideally situated for walkers with easy access to the coast path and a variety of other public footpaths from the front door that take you into St Ives or across to the delightful village of Zennor and the perennially popular Tinners Arms.

The cottage sleeps up to four people in two double bedrooms, both with views across the meadows to the sea. Downstairs is open plan for easy living. Slate floors, a fully equipped kitchen, large dining table and a comfortable lounge area with wood burner for cosy winter nights mean that you can self cater comfortably and in style.

The hamlet is situated at the end of a farm lane and has parking for 2 cars.

Rosewall was lovely in every way - beautifully decorated, warm, and spectacular views

  • 4 of 5

We had a great week at Rosewall, lots of great walks, especially at Godrevy, with glimpses of dolphins and loads of seals. Recommend Porthminster Kitchen in St Ives for a delicious and not overpriced meal

Perfect combination of old & new

  • 5 of 5

This cottage has the perfect combination of old world charm but with modern style and facilities. Everything works and there is mobile signal! What a joy! The property was easy to find and although secluded was not too far from the main road. The small collection of houses and cottages is delightful and really well renovated and beautifully kept. Making this an ideal location for getting to St Ives and other places but also for getting out onto fields with the dog and down to the coastal path. The view from the cottage is superb! Parking and access for unloading luggage is excellent (poor parking facilities one of my pet hates!). Thanks to Mel for leaving the cottage warm and welcoming with the provisions. The wine and chocolate cake were very well received after a long journey. Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to stay in this area of Cornwall.

Very good and enjoyable stay.

  • 4 of 5

Property and facilities were great. Only comments to improve would be nice to have a microwave provided.

Also the lane was tricky to manage without scratching the car so not ideal bushes need an extra cut back.

Owner's Response: Thanks for positive review. We will think about microwave but have resisted in past as we don't use them personally and felt it would take up unnecessary space despite it offering convenience.

Beautiful cottage with superb facilities and the highest of standards

  • 5 of 5

We stayed from May 21-28 2017 and had a wonderful time in this excellent property. Simon the owner went out of his way to accommodate our requests before we arrived which was most appreciated.

The facilities at Rosewall are top class and you are left wanting for nothing with excellent internet, a fully stocked kitchen with high quality cooking utensils, high quality bed linen and towels and quality furnishings throughout.

However it's the little things like a bag of kindling and full case of DVDs and books that make a difference in Rosewall and make it feel that you are staying in a friends house (that is a friend with excellent taste!) rather than an average rental accommodation.

We rented a car and that is probably a good idea for exploring further afield (Minack, Lands End and Sennen are only 35 mins by car) however taxis into St Ives are only £6 and the walk-in/taxi back option is best for a night out if you don't have a car

All in all an excellent holiday stay, could not recommend highly enough. Superb quality and hosts

Couldn't ask for more

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on Sunday the 21st of May and were greeted by a lovely welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits and milk etc. A small gesture but greatly appreciated especially as we didn't arrive until 10 pm on a Sunday and local shops were closed it was lovely to have a cup of tea. We had asked the owners before arriving if the bedding was feather down (I have an allergy) they told us that it was but had kindly made arrangements for the bedding to be switched to a non down kind. As this was an unusual request I wasn't sure if this could/would be done but was pleasantly surprised when we arrived and found a note letting us know which room the new bedding was in. The cottage contains everything needed including small items such as salt, pepper, clingfilm, tin foil and maps to local tourist spots etc. The house felt like a friends house rather than a holiday let as there were beautiful ornaments and locally made pottery on display. St. Ives is roughly a 15 minute walk via the main road so the cottage is conveniently located but is in a rural setting so is very peaceful. You can see that great care had be taken to ensure that guests had all that they needed and we will stay here again in the future.

Special interest holidays:

The cottage is ideally situated for keen walkers - there are footpaths that run directly from the property and connect to the South West Coast Path. The coastal walk from the property to Zennor is a great walk that is challenging but rewarded by a visit to the Tinners Arms before an easier stroll through ancient farmland and burial paths back to Trowan.

The walk to St Ives is about 30 minutes across the fields or via the farm lane. The slightly longer walk along the coast path into town via Clodgy Point is spectacular and recommended for sunny days. Look out for seabirds, dolphins and seals before walking into town via Porthmeor Beach.

For surfers, Porthmeor beach in St Ives is the nearest beach, Hayle and Godrevy are a 20 minute drive away and the gently shelving beaches are great for children and beginners. There are a myriad of options along the coast road, including Sennen which has consistently good surf..

Nearest beaches are in St Ives - 30 minutes walk or 5 minutes by car. Porthmeor is a very popular surf beach with surf schools, beach side bars and restaurants. The smaller, child friendly beach of Porthgwiddan is next along followed by dog friendly Bamamuz (low tide only). The harbour is a hive of activity with fishing trips, excursions to Seal Island, jet boat rides and self drive boats all on offer. On land, there many lively bars, restaurants and coffee shops together with good independent shopping. Porthminster is a large, child friendly sheltered beach popular with families. Many other beaches are within a short drive.
