About the Owner

Welcome to my own cottage Canal View. Canal View is my home that I have decided to make available for holiday rental. It started life as a British Waterways workers cottage around the turn of the 20th century in 1905. It is located in a small village just off the main road from Nantwich to Chester.

I have tried to retain its character but with the added comfort of modern technology.

It is a cosy cottage ideally located for anyone who loves the countryside, walking, cycling, canals, fishing and visiting historic areas.

I use Canal Cottage when I can and even now after 5 years, every day feels like I am on my holidays as the location is fabulous. I have local information available in the cottage to assist your visit.

If you decide to visit Canal Cottage I wish you a fantastic holiday.

Cute house on the Shropshire Union canal in Barbridge

  • 5 of 5

Canal View in Barbridge is a delightful place to rest while enjoying the quiet canal side in the little hamlet of Barbridge. It is a well-appointed, cosy, three-storey house in a row of brick buildings. (The staircases are quite steep and not appropriate for anyone with mobility issues.) The back garden (accessed across a narrow alley) is delightful, and the secluded back deck is right on the canal and is an ideal place to sit and watch the narrow boats slowly putter by. The kitchen and bathroom are newly renovated, and there is a wood fire in the downstairs as well as barbecuing in the garden. The upper floor has a very comfortable double bed and a wonderful baloney; the middle floor room, with its two single beds, is fine for children but might be a bit cramped for two adults.

The owner is easy to work with and communicates quickly. While just off the A51, Barbridge is quiet, and the Barbridge Inn--just two doors down--is a wonderful pub with great food. Barbridge is very near quaint Nantwich and Tarporley, and is ideally situated for excursions into Cheshire County.

Canal View cottage

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed in the Canal View cottage, and it was great. The place was spotlessly clean and very welcoming. Barbridge is a small hamlet with a great country pub, five minutes from Nantwich. There are some really good restaurants and pubs locally and some beautiful countryside. We found the owners to be very helpful and good communicators. We would definitely stay again and recommend.
