Away from traffic, Laburnum Cottage enjoys views over the Sussex countryside as far as the South Downs. Dallington is set around an ancient church; it is quiet and peaceful, situated between the market town of Heathfield and Battle, the centre of 1066 country. The area is not only designated AONB but is steeped in local interest and history. Dallington is surrounded by great walking country with a dense network of footpaths, woods, quiet country lanes, and country pubs. Nearby there are villages to explore such as Brightling, Burwash and Mayfield (the centre of the Tudor iron industry). Further afield are the towns of Lewes, scene of the Barons revolt in 1264, and the Cinque port towns of Hastings, Rye and Tenterden. There are many historic castles to visit: Bodiam(NT), the epitome of moated castles; Herstmonceux, the only brick-built castle of the fourteenth century; Hever, the home of Anne Boleyn; Scotney(NT), a fairytale castle set in a beautiful garden; and Pevensey, where Romans and Normans landed. There are famous houses too: Charleston with Bloomsbury group associations; Batemans(NT), Kipling’s house at Burwash – you can walk there across the fields; Penshurst, home of Sir Philip Sidney with its wonderful gardens. And if you love to visit gardens, Sissinghurst(NT), Great Dixter and Pashley Manor are all within reach. Along the coastline between Rye and Brighton are Winchelsea, Hastings old town, Eastbourne, and the spectacular Seven Sisters white cliffs that can be reached by walking from Alfriston along the banks of Cuckmere river.
Events In 2017 include the Charleston Literary Festival 19-29 May, and the Glyndebourne Opera Festival 20 May - 27 August.
Robin and Carolyn are excellent hosts. Attentive but not intrusive. From the pleasant welcome pack, including some delicious home made cake, to the support for an extra bed for one day when my son popped in, these people went out of their way to help their guest.
Lovely clean crisp cotton sheets, well stocked kitchen and bathroom and a shopping delivery from a well known retailer which arrived a couple of hours before us. Everything was just as it should be. Then the weather improved and the surrounding garden was a sheer delight.
I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Yew Arch to anyone seeking an idyllic, picture postcard environment for a short or long stay. Peace and quiet is something so rarely experienced nowadays so treat yourself while you can.
Amazing
Lovely quiet area with lots of interesting places to visit. Cottage clean, warm and very comfortable. Everything you could wish for is provided and a lot more. Fabulous hosts who know the area very well. We were welcomed with everything we could want for breakfast and a wonderful homemade cake. The garden is superb and lovely to while away the hours looking at a great view. Highly recommend and would love to return.
Prachtige cottage lieve gastheer en gastvrouw
We enjoyed our visit to East Sussex where we visited some of the many historical houses and gardens in the area. Garden Flat is in an ideal location with very good facilities, and our hosts were very friendly and informative but not intrusive. We would definitely return if we are ever in that part of England again.
Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Exactly as it showed in the picture. Beautiful, peaceful garden and extremely comfortable cottage. Excellent base for many local attractions and the coast, with vineyards, gardens and country houses in easy reach. Great tv reception! Our hosts were very welcoming and we did not want for anything. Definitely a returning venue.
