About Liz and James Hitchcock

Hebe Cottage is owned by Liz and James. We fell in love with Wells and North Norfolk about 6 years ago and followed our dream of owning a cottage there. We bought Hebe Cottage in November 2014 and have enjoyed furnishing it as well as staying there as we prepare to welcome guests. We have two young children, hence our experience of Norfolk is from a family perspective, however we are looking forward to learning more as the family grow up. We hope you enjoy Hebe Cottage as much as we do!

Why Liz and James Hitchcock chose North Norfolk & Coast

We chose Hebe Cottage because of its proximity to the stunning beach at Wells.

As a family we have spent a lot of time cycling to enjoy the countryside and visit some of the local attractions. There are a huge number of events taking place throughout the year so it is also worth while checking out what's on before booking.

We are constantly surprised by the quality and number of places to visit; it really is a very special place.

What makes this cottage unique

We love the fact that we can walk to shops, high quality restaurants and even the beach.

The cottage is light and airy with a beautiful outside space meaning that we can enjoy evenings bbq-ing in the sun. It's rare in Wells to find such a secluded space at the heart of the town.

Location

Coast/Beach:

The Quay is only 420m away, reached along Staithe Street where cafes, shops and restaurants can be found.

The stunning beach fringed with pines and colourful beach huts is located a mile away from the Quay, accessible by car (5mins), on the minature railway or by foot along the sea wall (20mins). The beach is several miles long and a fantastic place to walk, swim and enjoy beach games. The 'big skies' of Norfolk are certainly found here!

Travel:

A car is useful to access many of the local attractions however the Coastal Hopper Bus stops within 50m of the cottage and can be used to visit locations and attractions along the coast.

Distances:

Holkham Hall - beautiful beach, estate, deer park, walled garden and stately home 1.5 miles

Morston Quay, Blakeney - seal watching trips 6 miles

Sandringham - HM the Queen's Norfolk retreat 20 miles

Walsingham - place of pilgrimage 5 miles

Wells to Walsingham miniature railway - 0.5 miles

Cley-next-the-Sea - beautiful windmill, birdwatching 10 miles

Further Details:

Wells has an award winning local butcher, fish shop and bakery all located within a 5 minute walk of the cottage. There are also two small supermarkets, a chemist and many independent shops offering clothing and coastal souvenirs.

You are spoilt for choice when deciding where to eat out. Behind Hebe Cottage you'll find the Buttlands, a green space surrounded by mature trees and many historic buildings including the Crown Hotel and the Globe Inn which are well regarded eateries. Further restaurants and coffee shops are found in Staithe Street and around the Quay including two fish and chip shops.

There is one bank with a cashpoint machine.

Beautiful cottage in a great location with superb facilities.

  • 5 of 5

Hebe Cottage is in a quiet part of Wells-Next-The-Sea but is in walking distance to many shops and pubs. It has everything you need for a week away. The cottage is decorated to a high standard and is spotlessly clean. All furnishings are of a high quality too. The cottage is in a great part of Wells with The Buttlands (we call it The Green) just around the corner and this is a great place to meet, have a drink, have a picnic or play a ball game. We visited Wells on Carnival Week when lots of other activities took place including music, sports activities and the gillying competition. We have visited Wells for many years and will continue to come in the future. Thankfully Hebe Cottage helped to make our holiday an enjoyable one again. We will definitely return next year.

Lovely cottage, beautifully restored and tastefully decorated. Perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect home from home, beautifully restored, tastefully decorated, and very well equipped.

The location couldn't be better, only a few mins walk to everything that Wells-next-the-Sea has to offer.

Even though it rained everyday we still had a great relaxing break, the highlight was the steam train from Holt, crabbing in Wells, and walks on the beaches, when the rain was too bad, we played board games in the cottage, which the owner provided.

We will definitely return to Hebe cottage next year. My two teenage children said a week wasn't long enough they would like three weeks next time.

Lovely cottage, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Hebe Cottage is very near the centre of Wells, and is well equipped with everything you might need for a comfortable holiday. The rooms are a good size for such a small place, with only the bathroom having restricted head height. It does get pretty hot upstairs if the weather is good, but that means you just have to spend more time on the gorgeous beach.

Perfectly located and beautifully presented cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for a week in May 2017, having previously stayed in Wells in August 2015. This cottage was beautifully decorated and had everything you could need. We like to cook and the kitchen was very well equipped and a nice size. The lounge area has a really comfy sofa, a good tv and good wifi. We occasionally sat out in the garden, which was a nice little sun trap. The garden, like the inside of the house, was kept very well.

The main bedroom has a comfy bed - could do with blinds as the room was very light from sunrise. Overall we liked the room. Both bathrooms were nice and we couldn't really have any complaints - we will definitely be returning in the future.

The location was perfect, just near to Staithe Street, which is effectively the high street of shops. A short walk to the pier and also not far from the Co-Op if you wanted a larger shop.

Wells is a lovely town and this was the ideal place to stay, would highly recommend.

Cosy house

  • 5 of 5

A tastefully converted and comfortable little house within easy walking distance of the sea. The high standard of the furnishing, design and cleanliness suggest this is really a second home and not just a holiday let. Despite being on a main street and terraced, it was incredibly quiet and peaceful and we loved our weekend stay and would highly recommend
