Cottage in St Dogmaels, Pembrokeshire, Wales - Peaceful Location

Abbey Forge sleeps 6 people plus a nursery with cot. The quaint riverside village of St Dogmaels is on the northern border of Pembrokeshire close to the market town of Cardigan is an ideal base for the beautiful sandy beaches and rugged cliffs of North Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion . Poppit Sands being the closest to visit (2 miles) and the coastal path is great to access from this location. The forge is located within the village, which has a shop, 3 pubs, a post office, and a fish and chip shop. The nearest town is Cardigan 2 miles away. The Preseli Hills, believed to be the source of the bluestone used at Stonehenge, are nearby and offer stunning scenery and great walks. There is a large fenced garden with furniture. Central heating in all rooms, apart from the downstairs bathroom and utility, which have underfloor heating. The charge for this depends on the time of year. There is also a logburner and open fire (fuel not supplied)

All bedding and towels are included in the price. Please bring your own beach towels. Short breaks can be booked for a minimum of 3 nights from March to November, except for high season when there may be availability if the cottage is not fully booked.

Activity and Interests


Poppit Sands is the closest beach to St Dogmeals yet many more beaches are within accessible distance.

You can also enjoy the newly created Wales Coast Path.


As there is no public transport a car is essential. The nearest airport is Cardiff which is 2 hours away by car. Fishguard is the nearest ferry port for travellers from Eire.The nearest train station with ongoing bus connections is probably going to be Carmarthen.

The Poppit Rocket coastal bus service links St Dogmaels with Cardigan, Poppit Sands and Newport. Services are specifically designed to help walkers with one morning service to drop you off at your start point and one afternoon service


5min walk to the local shops, cafes and pubs, 5min car journey to the local farm shop for local, fresh produce. St Dogmeals abbey is a stones throw away and well worth a visit, The Coach House Heritage Centre and Y Felin Water Mill are also within walking distance. Cardigan is the closest town and is only 1.3miles and Poppit Sands is 2.7miles.

Cardigan has 3 supermarkets, banks, Boots, W H Smith, clothes and gift shops. An interesting indoor market and Farmers market on a Thursday.

Cardigan Castle has recently been restored and was the site of the first ever Eisteddfod in 1176.

There is also the Welsh Wildlife Centre, situated on the Teifi Marshes and bordering the river it makes its way to the sea passed Cardigan. In summer there are water buffalo helping to maintain the marshland habitat.

Cenarth Village, also on the Teifi is the site of the famous Cenarth Falls and the National Coracle Centre.

National Trust properties in the area include Colby Woodland Garden, the Tudor Merchants House at Tenby, Llanerchaeron and Dinefwr Park and Castle, as well as stretches of coastline and countryside.

The national Botanic Garden is about an hour away, as is Aberglasney House and Garden

If a holiday is booked within 6 weeks of the start date, payment in full is required.

Changeover day
Friday is the preferred changeover day and we try to be flexible though this could be difficult in high season. Arrival time is 4pm and departure by 10am.
