Large 1 Bed Riverside Ground Floor Apartment-Beautiful New Conversion FREE WIFI

Overview

Property

Updated: 28-Aug-2016
Apartment in Tavira, Eastern Algarve, Portugal - In The Heart Of The Town But Away From The Hustle And Bustle With Endless White Sand Beaches Nearby

NEW 2016 FREE WIFI access to help keep out guests in touch...

The whole area in front of the apartment, alongside the river, now has a beautiful promenade with a wide pedestrian walkway, seating, trees and access to the ferry but the fishing boats remain to keep the ambience of the town.

Set on the ground floor of a townhouse this very spacious, modern one bedroom apartment has this very sought after location.

In the season the ferry to Ilha Tavira, with its famous Blue Flag long, white sandy beaches, is just a step away which makes a perfect start and finish to a day on the beach.

In the heart of Tavira, yet away from the hustle and bustle, with its cobbled streets, small shops, restaurants and riverside cafes and bars. As Tavira has been rated as a 'Slow City' this is just what you will experience.

This is an all year round destination having modern Dual air-conditioning/heater units in the lounge and bedroom which are very efficient and quiet.

NEW Hygienic hotel style hand wash pump+body/shampoo gel pump+toilet tissue dispenser+wall mounted hairdryer fitted in the bathroom to compliment our facilities

This apartment can be rented with P2691 and P8492 which are two 1 bedroom apartments situated on the first floor, making flexible accommodation for 6 people in the same building but having their own private facilities.

We have added a glass front at the entrance with two folding seats so it makes a bijou sitting area where you can watch the world go by with a cool glass of wine or just a good book.

The whole of the street that leads to Quatro Aquas and the other ferry to The Island has been totally renovated with a wide pedestrian/cycle path with lots of shades and seats on the way, many seating areas with restaurant and small cafes and bars. An unimaginable transformation. Now an easy, flat walk in between the roman salinas with the many wading birds and flamigos, pictures on our gallery.

About the Owner

We are George and Barbara & have been married for over 45 years! We have 30 years+ previous experience of renting properties in Sussex & Belgium. We have had a villa in Tavira for 12 years & when we retired spent time between the 3 countries. Needless to say we could not resist looking for good quality properties for rental & decided to share the lovely city of Tavira with others. We have always had the opinion that if we would want to stay in a place so would other people and we have always used that criteria. We realise that holidays are very important to people as they spend a long time choosing and looking forward to them & saving for them. For us it is also important that we treat people as we like to be treated. We are constantly looking to upgrade our apartments for extra comfort

Location

From the Owner

We bought this building purely because it is right ongside the Rio Gilão. The ground floor is let as a large modern 1 bedroom, apartment. It has 2 apartments on the first floor, the front one have beautiful views from the large balcony over the river with the comings and goings of the fishermen & also a secluded private roof terrace. The studio is very large and bright and also has a balcony. We fell in love with Tavira when we first saw it and that is why we live here. It still has a slow pace and is relatively unspoilt. The countryside behind is stunning and well worth a visit, just driving and exploring the small white villages, where time stands still, and stopping at a small cafe for a drink with the locals. It is stunning in Spring with the hills painted white and yellow from the cistus & mimosa not forgetting the heady fragrance of the famous almond blossom in January and February...our Spring.

Activity and Interests

Car: not necessary

Special interest holidays:

The Ria Formosa Nature Reserve is a World Heritage site and a paradise for twitchers with migrating birds, flamingos wadding in the salinas or for those who just appreciate nature. One of our guests counted over 100 species in one day!! In August you can watch the Flor do Sal/Sea salt being collected by hand in the way it has been done for since Roman times

We also have the Ecovia a dedicated cycle and walking path the runs the whole length of the Algarve coastline. Mostly its path is along tracks and lanes and only returns to the road when need be. You can use the train that also follows the coastline to start and stop at a different destination so you do not need to be on the same part more than once..

Coast/Beach:

All the beaches have the coverted EEC blue flag Endless white sand, safe with small tides where you can walk, swim or just relax, boasting some of the warmest water temperatures in the Algarve, normally 25C in August. Tavira Island and Barril beach are accessed by ferry or small train and there are a few restaurants and cafes so the beach can be enjoyed as long as you desire. A 10 minutes drive gives you direct access to the beach. Even in peak season you will find a quiet stretch of beach.

Travel:

Faro airport is 32 km away & takes about 30 minutes on the motorway Tavira has a train & bus station for the adventurous to explore further afield or transfer from the airport. Detailed directions to the apartment will be given where our hospitality colleague will meet you, hand over the keys and answer any questions you may have.

We can recommend, with confidence, car hire, door to door transfers or a shuttle, please just ask, we are here to help

Further Details:

Tavira is one of the most unspoilt towns in the Algarve with the Rio Gilão running through its centre and spanned by a 7 arch Roman bridge This unspoilt town retains its historic medieval past with the castle standing watch over some 30 churches The winding cobbled streets are full of small shops and riverside cafes where the pace of life is slow A daily market offers fresh fish from the local fishermen caught that morning, local fruit and vegetables at affordable prices from local growers There is a varied choice of good restaurants at very reasonable prices During the season the outdoor 'amphitheatre' in the square provides evening music and entertainment Concerts and classical recitals are held in some of the large churches which is a wonderful natural setting. During August the Igreja da Calma hosts an outdoor cinema in its precincts The Algarve boasts long white sandy beaches with the coveted Blue Flag The Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, which is a World Heritage site, has many rare species of birds enjoying the benefits of the larger system of tidal lagoons, which is a twitchers paradise Many species of birds migrate here, or stop on the way Flamingos paddle in the salinas (Roman salt pans) and storks make unruly nests on any high vantage point The salt is raked by hand with wooden tools in the same way the Romans did and is a firm favourite with top chefs and sold as organic Flor da Sal in Harrods The old Convento da Graça has been tenderly renovated into a stunning Pousada, to dine in the cloisters or just take a cool drink is a real must We now have a shopping mall outside the town with over 100 shops, a food hall and a 4 theatre cinema for those inclement days which are far and few between Tavira boasts over 300 days sunshine.....We now have Tuk Tuks which are an ideal way to see the town at a slow pace and gain information about it but more important to orientate where you are..Taviras answer to an open top bus ride..
