About Averil Ballantyne

The Ballantyne family have farmed at Balkaithly since 1942 and look forward to welcoming guests to our mixed arable farm and showing them the many and varied attractions of the area.

This is a family farm and we are now the second generation to run it. It is in a tranquil setting but very conveniently located for nearby towns and facilities.

Cosy, clean, warm, friendly and inviting

We wanted to visit the St Andrews area, but did not want a hotel room. This farm suite caught our eye so we decided to give it a try.

A great choice. From the minute of our late afternoon arrival we were comfortable. It was nice of Averil to have a liter of milk and a bottle of wine.

She showed us all the funcyions of the apartment when we arrived. Everything was functioning..very clean and well kept. The beds were comfortable. I would not hesitate to stay here again..and I hope to do so next time we visit the area.

It is about a 10 minute drive to St Andrews..so easily accessible. Hope to see you again!

Tranquility on the farm in the "Kingdom of Fife"

We enjoyed our stay in this spacious apartment in the lovely country setting between St Andrews and Anstruther in the "Kingdom of Fife." The bed was very comfortable, the kitchen appliances worked well, bathroom was a good size.with plent yof hot water. Owner Avril was just next door in case of any need (we didn't have any!).

First Class Accomodation

This farmhouse is a true home from home. Very friendly welcome on arrival with lovely flowers and biscuits waiting for you inside, also tea, coffee, sugar and milk supplied. The house was immaculately clean with fresh white bed linen and towels. The owners are very friendly and helpful. You are situated in a very peaceful area but only 2 miles and a 10 minute drive from St. Andrews so in an ideal position. We really could not recommend the farmhouse highly enough and will definitely be returning in the future. St. Andrews and the surrounding areas are an ideal place to stay for the young and old alike and a definite for any golf enthusiast. There are plenty of places to eat out, some lovely shops and lots of history to enjoy. Balkaithly Farm and St. Andrews are a must visit.

Excellent stay at this lovely farm

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this farm for five days. The house was lovely, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. It is the perfect location for us as it is close to St. Andrews (10min drive) and anstruther (10 min drive). The hosts were welcoming and nice. We would definitely recommend it and come back if we have the occasion.

A spacious property with lots of helpful extras

We were delighted with our short stay in this property. We found there were lots of things provided that in other places you have to bring yourself; small things like soap to larger things like towels. It was far more spacious than we expected and lovely and light. Beds were comfy and the kitchen was extremely well equipped. There was a bottle of wine waiting with flapjacks and farm eggs, A lovely welcome - highly recommended.
