Lovely 18th century holiday home, No longer available with Owners Direct

Updated: 21-Sep-2016
Cottage near Quay - Quiet, yet town centre location. Nearby parking.

Rose cottage is a delightful property, nestling in a row of 18th century homes. This charming town centre cottage is lovingly presented by the current owners, Kim and Ian. The cottage is tastefully decorated, and accommodation comprises of lounge/diner, inner hall, character breakfast/kitchen with quarry tile floor and butler sink, ground floor bathroom with modern shower fittings. Cottage stairs lead to the first floor where there are two double bedrooms, with king and double beds, both with built in wardrobes.

From the kitchen there are double doors which lead out to a new conservatory/dining room and south facing private garden, that offers privacy and seclusion.

Full gas central heating is available in the house.

Cottage is equipped with Virgin cable TV and high speed internet/wifi.

Wick Street car park is literally a stones throw away, on opposite side of the road.

We bought this 2nd home last year, and simply love spending the weekend or more there, we just park the car and walk everywhere, shops and pubs just round the corner. The stroll by the river is lovely at the end of the day when all is quiet.

About the Owner

We live near the Needles on the Isle of Wight, and have recently bought this cottage as a winter haven when life on the island is a little quiet! In the summer we offer it as a lovely holiday let.

A very lovely stay.

  • 5 of 5

A very lovely stay indeed with my mother and my two sons. The cottage has a beautiful energy and has everything you need. Christchurch is a lovely little town where I'd been as a child and has changed a little...but not too much!...also has everything you need. The Priory is really worth a visit and the Quay!. Boats run frequently in the summer to Mudderford and Hengistbury Head. An amazing site and beach, specially Hengistbury was great fun for the boys, who were looking for fossils and also vikings!!!....The only thing we needed were bikes to hire...There's nowhere to hire bikes in the town and hiring from Bournemouth seemed a bit complicated at the time... we will come again hopefully!. Thank you very much Kim and Ian xxxxx

Wonderful cottage. Will book again.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in the cottage. Charming and full of character. Everything you need is there for you. We didn't find parking a problem and it was half term week so Christchurch was very busy. It's very central and all the shops and bars are 5 mins away. Had a wonderful time and will be back again.

A little bit of tranquility in town.

  • 4 of 5

Rose Cottage ticked all our boxes. It is very clean, comfortable and furnished with quality fixtures and fittings. The kitchen has a vast range of equiptment if you want to cook. There's a great choice of eateries on the doorstep if you don't.

Parking across the road in the council carpark is quite costly. Blue badge holders are not exempt. If you are a bage holder and contact the Civic office on Bridge St in advance they will issue an exemption ticket. Send copies of your proof of PIP/DLA higher rate mobility and both sides of blue badge. I was unable to do this as this information was not available to me at the time of booking. However, on the Monday I was put on the exemption list after a visit to the office. As we took our dogs to Avon beach daily this too would have been quite costly.

The conservatory is a very pleasant place to sit/read/eat when the sun is shining. When we visited it was cold in the evening so we didn't linger after eating. The wall heater is disconnected?

We had a very enjoyable holiday staying at Rose Cottage and would not hesitate to book again.

Owner's Response: Lynda, Glad you enjoyed your week, it is a nice spot. Thanks for the info on disabled parking, frankly we had no idea, all is a bit secretive in that area with the council ;-) The heater was connected, it simply needed plugging in in the kitchen, I'll make a label for our next visitors. Regards - Kim and Ian

Half term holiday

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed with our stay at Rose cottage. It is beautifully decorated, comfortable and very well equipped. I was astounded at how much storage there was for such a small house. The owners have thought it through really well. We are regular visitors to Christchurch and this cottage couldn't be in a better location. Although there is no parking at the property, we managed to find a nearby road to leave the car, which was fine because we walked everywhere so didn't need it. The other great thing was being able to bring our dog, everywhere we went, so did he, as most establishments allow you to take them in. Even the Captains Club hotel for a drink on their patio! We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Thanks for a great week away

Easter weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was just what we needed. A very comfortable well equipped house in the centre of Christchurch. Despite being near the centre it wàs quiet and easy to access. We also had over 100 mile an hour winds which we didnt hear ! The only downside was the parking and having to get up early to pay for parking , as the clocks had moved forward over the weekend, but that was minor. Lots of easy walks from the property and of course Christchurch is in a beautiful coastal area.

Beds comfortable , lots of equipment in the kitchen. All very clean and tidy when we arrived. Lovely sunny conservatory and garden. Comfortable seating in the sitting room. We would probably take some games with us next time but that was because we had a few hours in the house due to the weather.

Thank you for letting us use your house

From the Owner

Christchurch is a bustling market town (market on Monday), there's a good selection of individual shops, a theatre and cinema. The cottage is just a few minutes walk away, plus the Priory and Quay are just around the corner, perfect for strolling along the river, having a picnic or hiring a motor boat. The ferry to Mudeford and Hengistbury Head departs from the Quay during the summer. Good choice of doggy walks, our favourite is Stanpit Marsh via footpath next to council offices. You'll be spoilt for choice as where to eat and drink, plus M&S, Waitrose and Co-op are all within easy walking distance.

Activity and Interests

Mudeford and Hengisbury Head are accessible by ferry from the quay.

Christchurch has a good south coast train service, 10 minutes walk away.

Very good bus service to Bournemouth/Lymington and beyond.

Further Details:

Being doggy owners, we allow small to medium sized dogs as long as they stay downstairs. We bought the property because it has a small garden, but more importantly, green space near by for morning walks without getting into a car.

From the Owner

The cottage is in a perfect place for a varied holiday, lively town of Bournemouth, peaceful New Forest (the open top bus departs in Christchurch) and yachty Lymington all within fifteen minutes drive. Plus numerous beaches and gardens to visit. Leave the car at home and catch the train/bus. Plenty of things to do and see in town, and bus stops just skip and a jump away.
