About the Owner

My husband and I have been living overseas in the Far East for many years although both originally from the south of England. My husband was trained as a French teacher and loves everything French, but has been teaching English in a local school since we have been here. He can’t wait to get back to speaking French again.

I am a textile artist and my passion is art quilting. I teach quilting, dye my own fabrics and make art quilts mostly inspired by the natural world: the Borneo rain forest, the wildlife, and the exotic tropical flowers and plants. I’m looking forward though to making some new designs inspired by the local French scenery and wildlife. I have my own website at annemaundrelldesigns.com

We also have four rescued cats which we plan to bring with us when we move to France.

A wonderful relaxing family holiday.

  • 5 of 5

We decided on booking our first Villa holiday as a change from norm plus loved the idea of our own pool.

When we arrived our immediate impression was wow! A stunning rural location yet not too isolated as we had passed towns not long before out arrival.

The villa was really spacious and was ready for us. There was everything we needed from kitchen equipment, washing materials, games, outdoor toys etc. We had two young children so they slept in one room so two were unused. Two families could easily share this property as each room had it's own bathroom.

The information booklet was handy and we used it for ideas of where to go and the wifi meant we could google directions etc.

The garden was huge and we saw so much wildlife. Rabbits, hares, birds of prey, bats and some animals that we didn't recognise at dusk. Really beautiful surroundings and we had space to play boules and badminton.

The swimming pool was a really decent size and not too cold. A net was provided to scoop out flies etc We spent many a day there just relaxing or cooling off. It was large enough to swim properly in and the children absolutely loved it.

We visited a few places.

La Jemaye was a local lake and we took kayaks out with no charge. There were places to eat there and the children played in the water. Only a short drive away.

Brantome is a must see. Stunning buildings, lovely shops and restaurants and a lovely boat trip. Kayaks were also available to hire here. A really pretty town.

Riberac is the local town and we enjoyed the local market. The supermarket was great with a huge selection of fresh fruit, vegetables and meats. The choice was fantastic and we ate well. Sometimes cooking and sometimes grabbing a pizza.

We ate out one evening in Chez Freds as in the information booklet. Lovely food but moreso a gorgeous spot if you eat outside with the church bells chiming every half hour. Glad we went.

Another fun day was the Velorail. They are all over France and you pedal along old railway tracks to a picnic location. Electric assisted were also available.

Overall a really fantastic holiday. Soooo relaxing and yet we saw areas of France too. Such a beautiful part of the world.

We had locals we could contact if we wished too and felt very at home.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday. We would highly recommend.

Le Mas, Riberac, a home in the country, South France

  • 5 of 5

We had an idyllic fortnight staying at the property of Anne and John in Le Mas hamlet, Riberac. We loved the rustic charm of the property and its large plot right in amidst nature and surrounding farm fields. We did many pleasant walks, swum in the pool, sunbathed and played badminton. From the property it was easy to drive to many surrounding towns and to do day trip adventures. We went to Tremalot, a beautiful town with an impressive Hotel de Ville that encourages you to tour their garden grounds. St Jean de Cole a pleasant cobbled town with abbey. Brantome market on Tuesday and Benedictine caves or church tours. Bourdeilles castle and stately manor with walled grounds. Lake Jemaye a swimming lake with lifeguard and eateries on the deck. Saint Aulaye which was all decorated with flowers made from plastic bags for a festival in July.

We had many plat de jour meals and particularly enjoyed Le Citronnier and Fleur d'eau. Booking does get you best seating. Tuesday evenings they have free music in the square and outside seating where you can buy a drink of your choice. People were dancing in the streets and it was all tres amusing.

Friday was market day and the produce was fresh and cheap with much to tempt. They also had stalls of clothing, pottery, bric a brac etc. It was easy to stock up with good food and wine to enjoy home cooked meals on the patio in the long daylight hours of summer. We sampled a few delights from the local bakeries as one must in France.

We would recommend the property to any one wanting a real town, country life experience in the South of France. It was well set up with every thing included that one could want and we all left feeling we had totally immersed ourselves in the region and were all so relaxed we didn't want to leave.

French country Christmas

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a peaceful Christmas in beautiful surroundings. The region offers nearby charming towns and Roman ruins to visit. The house was very well equiped (washing machine, kitchen

appliances etc )with stunning views of

farmland and we spent cozy evenings by

the warm fireside watching DVDs and playing scrabble. We even cooked

Christmas dinner as Leclerc supermarket and bakeries providing fresh bread and croissants are five minutes away.

Clean and well equipped.

  • 4 of 5

Very clean on arrival, well equipped in both kitchen and throughout. Plenty of toilets and bathrooms which was good news. Large grounds. Close to Riberac for Supermarket (5 mins), good directions. Pool could do with a little work, and maybe a cover to keep it cleaner through the week. Great for a relaxing holiday. Maybe more local information on restaurants, attractions etc would be good.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. This is our first year owning and renting the property so we are grateful for your feedback. We are scheduled to get some maintenance done on the pool and agree that a pool cover is a good idea as being in the countryside there tends to be a lot of stuff blowing around. I did put some information about local restaurants and places to visit on the new Owners Direct app but possibly you didn't see it. I'll work on adding more when we are next there and providing an updated printed copy.

A Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week stay. The house was clean and well equipped. We enjoyed the pool and terrace (with fabulous views). An electrical storm caused a power cut but our contact quickly sorted this.

We enjoyed activities at nearby lakes and rivers.

I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a beautiful, peaceful setting or as a base for activities.

Perfect in so many ways

  • 5 of 5

The house has everything you could possibly need, the garden and pool are ideal for children and the surrounding area suited our needs perfectly. There's a very rustic feel to the house and locale, but Riberac is only 5 minutes away and has large supermarkets, nice restaurants and a proper French café in the square. There are plenty of sights worth seeing in less than an hour's drive and there are gorgeous, unspoilt lanes, trails, woods and fields within walking distance of the house. The house has TV, WiFi, games console, board games etc. but you won't need them! When you're not busy relaxing, there's too much to see and do outdoors. We are a couple in our late 30s with 2 girls aged 5 and 3. We give it 4 massive thumbs up. And the girls' grandmother joined us for 4 days and was in heaven. So it has appeal for all ages. Go now!

From the Owner

When we decided to buy a place in France we looked at a lot of places but immediately fell in love with this property. We wanted somewhere rural but close to a small town or village, with a big garden and a pool and this house ticked all the boxes. The location of the property is wonderful, situated on a hilltop with views across the surrounding countryside. Private, but not isolated as it is in a small hamlet, with the town of Ribérac close by with its restaurants, market and shops. We love the area with its beautiful countryside, traditional villages and excellent food and wine. The house is 200 years old and full of character with its stone walls and wooden beams. Renovated by the previous owners it still retains its rustic charm and straight away felt like home.

From the Owner

This property is wonderful because it is quiet, private and peaceful with beautiful views across the surrounding countryside yet is only 5 minutes away from the small market town of Ribérac, an hour’s drive from Bergerac airport and only 40 minutes drive from Angoulême if you’re travelling by train. Children can run around and play safely in the big garden and then there’s the fabulous 10m x 5m metre pool where you can cool off on a hot day. It’s a great place to just chill out and relax but when you want to be more active there are numerous activities available locally and many interesting places to visit in the area. It's great spot to watch birds and wildlife too.
