Lovely Holiday Home In Pendra Loweth's beautiful hidden valley

Overview

Property

Updated: 03-Dec-2016
'Riverstones': Well-equipped cottage close to Falmouth, Cornwall. Free WiFi. Near sandy beaches, gardens, golf and the SW coast path. Tennis courts, gym, splash pool. No pets

Pendra Loweth is a village of purpose built and privately owned self-catering holiday cottages, set in a beautiful, peaceful and secluded valley leading down to Maenporth Beach. ‘Riverstones’ sits in an enviable position in the centre of the village, next to a gentle stream, and with easy parking. The cottage has been set up with comfort and convenience in mind. The kitchen was equipped by a cooking enthusiast, there’s a dishwasher and a washer dryer, smart TV and DVD player, comfortable beds, lots of hot water, bath with power shower and fluffy white towels…

With plenty to do indoors, on the site and out and about, Riverstones is sure to keep everyone happy. Try sailing, surfing, bodyboarding, tennis, golf, walking, cycling, bowling, crabbing, kayaking... Back onsite, the kids can skate, scoot, ride bikes, kick a ball, play in the shallow stream, the play area or the plunge pool... Then all can settle down to watch movies on the smart TV.

Nearby are the coastal footpaths and beaches at Maenporth and Swanpool, and the creeks and woodlands of north Helford. Falmouth itself is a classic Cornish town with a beautiful and famous harbour, plus the National Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle. Walk through the narrow streets, enjoy food and drink in the many cafés, restaurants and pubs, take a boat trip across the River Fal to St. Mawes or up the Truro River... At Bissoe, hire bikes (or take your own) for traffic free cycling through tin mine country, between Portreath village and beach on the north coast and the beautiful creek at Devoran on the south coast. And Riverstones is well placed for exploring the whole of Cornwall – the surfing beaches of the north coast, St. Ives, Land’s End and England’s southernmost point, The Lizard, are all about an hour’s drive.

About the Owner

Hello. I'm Janet, married to Steve, living in Surrey and working from home as a market researcher. I do 'focus groups' on all sorts of things. We have two sons, aged 23 and 21.

We started having family holidays in Cornwall when the boys were about 8 and 6. One time, we went shopping in Falmouth and returned having bought a pair of shoes and a house! Crazy. But we knew we'd be back time and again.

The boys have grown up now - but we all still love our family holidays. And these days they come down with friends or girlfriends, to share and extend their love of Cornwall.

Give it a try - I guarantee you will love it, too!

A few from the Visitors Book:

So lucky we found this place! Spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. The brochures in the basket were of great use to us. A fab base for a wonderful holiday. Thank you. (Timmins, Shropshire)

Our second time at Pendra Loweth… Cottage ‘69’ is really cosy with excellent furnishings and facilities. We are hoping to return very early next year (Griffiths, Wirral)

Excellent stay in lovely cottage perfectly suited to discover large parts of Cornwall – St. Ives, Fowey, Lost Gardens of Heligan etc… all in easy reach. Very snug accommodation. Fantastic week (Broomfield, Kent)

The house was immaculate. It contained everything anyone could need. The whole family loved it.

The house was really comfortable. The gardens, even at the end of October, were well cared for. We could not find fault with anything.

fantastic tucked away location

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Riverstones. The house is beautiful and packed with many essentials. There are heaps of fluffy white towels, some essentials on arrival and games DVD's should you have any rainy days. If you are looking to escape noise then this place is perfect. Set in the most beautiful grounds and gardens where all we could hear was a stream running and birds singing. Ideal location for going to many attractions in Falmouth and the surrounding areas. We will definitely be booking this property again when visiting Cornwall.

Lovely holiday

  • 5 of 5

We LOVE Cornwall and this place was a lovely base. It was clean and full of things you will need to make your holiday easier like fully equipped kitchen and games and a scooter for the kids. Nicely decorated and plenty of lovely clean towels. Option of heating. Small very overlooked garden with just a bench- but it gets the sun. Sun loungers would be a nice addition. The pool in the complex is v small and there's a jacuzzi and gym too.

1 mile to 2 beaches - both Stoney and sand beaches. Note evening BBQ's on the beach are popular.

Super holiday and the sun shone on us every day!

Beautiful, comfortable and well equipped.

This is a fantastic cottage if you have children. They even had a stairgate which was incredibly useful. The TV in the childrens room was great too. The broadband access and iPlayer on the TV was excellent. It was very clean and fresh and the beds were extremely comfortable. I recommend it highly.

Excellent facilities, easy access for touring

  • 5 of 5

4 of us (all adults) stayed at Riverstones last week. We were very pleased with the accommodation. Janet has thought of everything and well equipped the property. It made an excellent base for us. The site was quiet and well maintained. The grounds were being tidied throughout the week. The clubhouse was not open and the plunge pool sporadically open but that did not bother us. We were so very lucky with the weather! Would definitely consider staying here again. Thank you for creating such a warm and welcoming home from home, Janet

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this positive review. It is great to know that the accommodation is working well for guests. Info for future guests: Unfortunately, the café/bar has been forced to close this year, due to operational difficulties. Efforts are in place to bring it back to life for next year. But the plunge pool will be 'manned' and open for set hours throughout this season - hours are likely to be 5pm-8pm weekdays and 11am-8pm at weekends (please check on arrival) - and the gym and tennis courts are accessible via entry code.

Home away from Home

Stayed at 'Riverstones' whilst visiting my son and his wife and my first grandaughter who live in Mylor. Absolutley spotless property and arrived to a lovely welcome package which really helped as we were tired and late for the shops after our long journey. Lovely warm and cozy cottage with wonderful fluffly towels and crisp linen. Pendra Loeth is a super place within easy reach of everywhere. The owners have thought of everything and I would not hesitate in recommending this lovely cottage. We will be back.

Location

From the Owner

We chose Pendra Loweth because we felt it gave the boys a bit of freedom, to go out and play without us having to watch their every move. And this area gives easy access to all parts of beautiful Cornwall. But whether we go off to explore the north coast or the far west, or simply stay local, we are STILL discovering gorgeous new places.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Walking the south west coast path has to be one of Cornwall's best attractions. Over the cliffs, down into the coves, rock pools and caves, and back up the cliffs, spotting seals in the water... whether the sea is blue and calm or grey and wild, the views are stunning.

Coast/Beach:

Sandy beaches at Maenporth, Swanpool and Falmouth are all 5 minutes by car and walkable. All with super beach cafés. Try the ice creams at Swanpool.

But also explore the north coast surfing beaches and gorgeous coves all around Cornwall.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Newquay, 40 mins, Exeter airport 2 hours.

Trains to Truro and then Falmouth.

A car is recommended, to get the best of the area.

Distances:

Falmouth 2.5 miles, Truro 12 miles, Newquay 26 miles

St. Ives 28 miles

Land's End 37 miles

The Lizard 23 miles

Eden Project 30 mlles

Bissoe (for bike hire) 9 miles

St Michael's Mount 24 miles

Porthcurno (and Minnack Theatre, built into the cliff face) 36 miles

Glendurgan National Trust Garden and Trebah Garden 3 miles

Further Details:

Falmouth has almost everything you need in terms of shopping - several main supermarkets, high street favourites and lots of independent shops.

For more local facilities, go to Boslowick Road, just off the main road, or the little Post Office stores in the next village, Budock Water.

Many restaurants, cafes and pubs in Falmouth. Try Harbour Lights for fish & chips, or Rick Stein. The Cove at Maenporth is well regarded.

Facilities

From the Owner

Pendra Loweth means 'Village of Gardens' - and these are award-winning gardens, set in a south-facing landscaped valley, with a gorgeous stream running through. An unexpected benefit of Riverstones' open plan layout is that it brings us together. At home, we all seem to be doing different things in different rooms. At Pendra, we spend time together - playing board games, watching movies, playing tennis (badly) - or walking, cycling, exploring… The cottage has good wifi and there's a hot water booster in the airing cupboard - so no worries about those things!
