The Piggery is a contemporary holiday cottage and sits high on the hills above Slaithwaite and Marsden.
Superior furnishings, decorations and under-floor heating throughout ensure that The Piggery offers a stylish and comfortable place to relax and appreciate the stunning views and countryside of the Colne Valley.
The studio can be accessed by it’s own door which leads out onto the paved area/garden with outdoor seating and extensive views across the valley. It can also be accessed via the upstairs part of the cottage through a drop down staircase. The studio area is particularly ideal for children who view it as somewhat of an adventure being tucked away in their den!
We can also provide a cot and high chair if necessary. Both the upper and lower patio areas are wonderful places to sit with a drink after a long walk or to dine alfresco, whilst taking in the superb views of Marsden down in the valley.
About the Owner
I live at Green Lane Farm with my husband and two cats, Tigga and Elsa. Green Lane Farm is annexed to The Piggery Holiday Cottage and was literally an old piggery which we converted to a holiday cottage four years ago.
We have chickens who provide us and our guests with beautiful fresh eggs. I have studied Spanish for seven years and although still not fluent, I can hold a conversation in Spanish. We have spent a lot of time in Spain over the years particularly in the Cadiz area on the Atlantic coast where we have enjoyed many hours cycling the area. We have welcomed people to The Piggery from Europe and beyond, including Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada.

The cottage is equipped and cared for to a very high standard with absolutely every piece of electrical equipment you could possibly want. The attention to detail is a joy. The view is incredible and the owners exceptionally helpful and kind. We had lots of snow mid-week, causing us to be snowed in which could have been a disaster if it weren't for the care and many kindnesses shown us by the owner. I thoroughly recommend this property and very much hope to go back in the summer months!

Feel very pleased with myself that I found the Piggery, we found it very easily despite the deep snow! The warmth hit us from the moment we entered and the decor, quality of furnishings was simply wow! the welcome pack was gratefully received, a chilled glass of wine whilst the kids played in the snow on the sledges thoughtfully provided. Nothing was too much trouble for Stephan and Carole and they were on hand for any queries.
The wifi is excellent which enable me to work.
The views are simply wonderful from every window. The walks are wonderful with easy walks to both Marsden and Slaithwaite with an array of bars restaurants and shops.
the local pub restaurants the Rose and Crown is superb, every meal great and staff excellent., so good we hardly ever cooked but the kitchen is perfectly equipped to do so!
All in all a great trip so much so we have re-booked for next new year already!

“We bought our property in 1994 and is over 200 years old, although the holiday cottage which is annexed to our home, Green Lane Farm, is only four years old. We love the area because it is in the countryside and is great for walks and cycling. We have a fabulous country inn just at the end of the road which serves good home made food and where Steve and Jane and the team provide a very warm welcome. It can feel remote but having said that we are not far from motorway links to Leeds and Manchester. We are 10 minutes away from the villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden where there are numerous bars, restaurants and shops.”

“Stunning views over the Colne Valley. Close to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and Visitor Centre at Standedge Tunnel. A 40 minute drive away from Bretton Sculpture Park home to Henry Moore sculpture. Countryside location but very handy for motorway links to Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, York, Harrogate. With prior arrangement possible to pick up guests at local airports (Manchester, Leeds/Bradford) at a small extra charge, however a car is necessary at the property.”
