The Orchard is a large elegant Edwardian house totally refurbished in 2014 to a very high specification. The house, nestled in the heart of this quintessentially English country village, provides spacious luxury rental accommodation over three floors with 6 large bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, 5 reception rooms and a garage. The house has been sympathetically renovated keeping several original fireplaces and interior features. Outside, the house offers private gardens of approx. three quarters of an acre, overlooking The Thames Valley towards Cliveden House at Taplow. The Orchard has the services of a local manager to check guests in and out, and to advise the visitors of the day to day running of the house (alarms, heating, satellite TV, Wi Fi, Cookers etc). Bedrooms and Bathrooms. The six bedrooms and bathrooms offer a variety of luxurious accommodation over the top two floors of the house and all but the top twin have satellite television.

On the top floor is one of the principal suites offering a large bedroom with vaulted ceiling and beautiful views over farmland towards Cliveden House. The room is tastefully furnished with designer wallpaper, crushed velvet accessories, silk curtains and crystal beading giving a somewhat boudoir feel. Leading off from the bedroom is the spacious white and grey marble bathroom complete with large circular bath, television built into mirrored effect walls, large walk in rain shower with side jets plus other usual facilities.

The second bedroom on this floor has twin beds plus a day bed with trundle bed under and can sleep up to four comfortably. This is a great kids room. The adjacent bathroom has full size bath with hand shower, basin and toilet.

On the first floor the principal suite comprises of very large bedroom, sumptuously decorated in gilt and blue with huge super king size bed and French Versailles style furniture. The bathroom is mainly slab marble with a twin walk in shower, twin basins and television concealed in the above sink mirror plus lovely views over the local countryside.

To the rear on this floor is the smallest bedroom which comfortably houses twin single beds plus furniture and has an en suite shower room.

To the front we have two king sized rooms. The 'pink' room is decorated in deep pink and bronze with a king size bed, limed furniture, television, beautiful en suite bathroom with full sized bath, walk in shower and double width basin and views over the old cricket common.

The 'blue room' is again of large proportion with king sized metal frame bed and cream painted furniture. The adjacent bathroom has full sized bath with shower over, basin and w.c. and views over the old cricket common.

Accessed from the road through an in/out driveway the house is set back with a sweeping gravel driveway with mature trees, hedging, shrubs and front lawn, leading to the front door and entrance portico.

The remaining sides of the property all have access to the paved and patio area and detached garage. The rear and side gardens are laid mainly to lawn with shrubs and perennial borders, beautiful views and adjacent farmland. The large patio area covers three sides of the house, the rear and south sides benefitting from the sun.

There is a gas BBQ to the side patio and ample garden furniture to enjoy outside life plus the luxury of a sunken hot tub - an ideal way to start or finish the day!! This is operational from April through to September.

For those wishing to travel in style to that special occasion or to enjoy the freedom of being driven to a West End Show or gourmet restaurant, we can offer the option of a chauffer driven Bentley Mulsanne. The car belongs to the owners of the Orchard and the chauffeur is well known to them and drives them regularly. Please ask for further details.

Catering

There are a wealth of good restaurants and take-aways in the area but should home catering be required we can supply the details of two local, extremely good cooks who will come to the house and prepare a meal. Menus and details on request.

Housekeeper / Cleaner

A flexible cleaning service can be arranged from just a check out clean, to a daily service including washing-up and dishwasher service, laundry and bathrooms.

Cookham Dean is a small picturesque village featuring its own church, two fine local pubs both serving food and The Sanctum boutique hotel and restaurant all within walking distance (max 3 mins) of the house. The countryside is typical of the Chilterns Hills with abundant farming and woodland for those who enjoy walking. Several National Trust properties are within easy reach i e Hughenden Manor, Cliveden House and West Wycombe House and Caves to mention a few. Cookham Rise is a short drive away featuring a splendid butcher and Countrystore local supermarket where you buy virtually everything. The close by towns of Marlow and Maidenhead both house most of the larger Supermarkets and a fine Artisan bakery in Marlow.

The Thames riverside is never far away with the nearest town being Cookham (a 5 min drive) which is home to The Sir Stanley Spencer gallery along with several very good restaurants such as The White Oak and The Bell & Dragon and two of the best Indian restaurants in the UK. Other towns nearby are Marlow (good for high street shops) with fine local Hotels such as The Complete Angler Hotel sitting on the River Thames and Dansfield House Hotel and Spa. Marlow also hosts its annual Town Regatta in June and is one of the multi-lane regattas in the British Rowing calendar, attracting a large entry from schools, clubs and universities from around the UK along with overseas crews who are preparing for Henley Royal Regatta, in Henley which is worth a visit and is a stone’s throw away. Henley is also famous for The Henley Festival, with both events being held during the summer months. Other local events such as The Boxing Day Games and The Gravity Grand Prix which are held locally in Cookham Dean are also an enjoyable day out. The riverside town of Maidenhead is also nearby with its cinema, bowling and Leisure centre.

The town of Beaconsfield, although not on the river, is worth a mention with its old and new towns as well as Beaconscott Model Village and various excellent eateries.

Another benefit of the location of the Orchard is its fine motorway access with the M4, M25 and M40 all close by. Junction 8/9 of the M4 is less than 10 mins away and depending on traffic you can get to Knightsbridge (Harrods) in approx. 45 mins. The train network is also good with London Paddington fast trains taking around 35 mins.

London attractions speak for themselves and are too numerous to mention, however other attractions are also nearby. Windsor castle, Windsor racecourse, Royal Ascot Races, Royal Windsor Horse Show, Henley Regatta, Wimbledon & Wembley Stadium to name but a few.

We must also boast to those who enjoy fine dining with the likes of The Hand and Flowers Marlow, Cliveden House Hotel in Taplow, The Fat Duck and The Waterside Inn at Bray are all 2 and 3 star restaurants - we really are spoilt for choice. All within a 15 minute drive of Cookham Dean.

Apart from the above, Christmas and New Year in Cookham might appeal, especially for family get togethers. Several large hotels are within easy reach of The Orchard and would provide excellent accommodation for those travelling to the local area for weddings and other such family occasions.

There is such a wealth of meal options available from the humble pizza to a gourmet meal that it would not be necessary to cook at all if required, unless you wanted to!

Just a short note to thank you and the team for arranging our stay at The Orchard. It was a lovely surprise to see the tree & festive decorations not to mention the mince pies!

The Orchard worked perfectly for our extended family group covering 4 generations & even more countries.

We had a truly international Christmas, entered a team in the Boxing Day games which was great fun & our runners, walkers & cyclist enjoyed exploring the area.

Food & drink at The Jolly Farmer was appreciated by all & it's a pub we'll be back to when in the area again.

Meanwhile for us it's the start of the Hogmanay shenanigans so I'll finish by wishing you & the team every best wish for 2016.

Perfect 50th Celebration

I booked the house to celebrate my 50th with 12 friends-6 couples. We were greeted on arrival by the charming house keeper who was so sweet and informative. I was speechless the house has the wow factor it is absolutely stunning, decorated to perfection and spotless. Everything is top quality from furnishings to bash towels. We had the best time ever. Although it was cold it didn't stop us using the fab hot tub. The village is idilic and lunch at the chequers was fabulous. I had the best birthday ever in a house that dreams are made of. We will be back.

WOW !

We were obviously looking forward to our stay at The Orchard, the web site photo's looked amazing, but do not do it justice. The property is simply amazing. The finish is outstanding, the facilities are state of the art and the views are stunning. The local area is absolutely lovely, with great walks and a superb collection of pubs and restaurants. London was only 45mins away for an evening out, and we even ventured into Bray 15 minutes away for a spot of lunch at the HindHead. From the amazing bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen, to the hot tub outside, we couldn't recommend this property more, you will simply love it!

"Total Luxury - beautiful location"

Don't hesitate to book. A lovely house in a great location. The owners reply quickly to emails and were there to meet us when we arrived. We visited so many places, Legoland, Runneymede, Henley & Ascot – all so easy to get to! The local train station is a small walk away and you are about ½ hour from London. The children loved the garden and trying to spot the neighbouring horses in the field next door was fun! They also enjoyed getting up early to spy on the local wildlife, especially see the jack deer was a bonus! The Hot Tub was most pleasurable particularly on lovely summer day. Should we ever visit the area again, I would definitely stay at The Orchard again, the house is truly beautiful and designed to an extremely high standard.

"Just had a wonderful stay at The Orchard, we enjoyed ourselves so much that we are booking again next year! The location of the property is idyllic, set in rural countryside with incredible views, which makes you feel completely relaxed, yet it’s great for visiting London and the surrounding tourist attractions (there are so many!) all within easy reach from the property. I would highly recommend the neighbouring pub with its great gourmet food and very friendly atmosphere."

"Supberb Location, beautifully furnished."

“Our stay at The Orchard was exceptional, myself and my family spent a week over Christmas here – what a perfect place for a wonderful family Christmas, loved by all, especially the dogs! From first contact to departure, the standard and service was above and beyond our expections. We were spoilt for choice with the bedrooms, out of the six exceptionally decorated bedrooms, we chose to stay on the top floor in one of the luxurious suites offering breath-taking views of Cliveden House. The beautiful décor throughout the entire house did not go unnoticed, it was the perfect location, the views overlooking the Berkshire countryside were splendid, watching the horses having their daily exercise was a perfect start to the day. I even managed a New Year’s Day dip in the hot tub, will definitely return again! Congratulations for creating something quite special. A fabulous time was had by all, what fond memories we have"

Distances:

Cookham Rise is the nearest local village with a supply of grocery stores, a fine buthers, delicatessen and a pharmacy as well as other shops. The nearest towns are Maidenhead or Marlow, both about a 10 min drive where you will find the larger supermarkets. In MARLOW there is an artisan bakery named BURGERS for freshly baked bread and cakes and smaller versions of Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and M & S food. This riverside town has a thriving High Street with many top named stores and coffee shops.

Further Details:

Best local Pubs are: The Jolly Farmer, Church Road, Uncle Tom's Cabin, Hills Lane, and The Chequers, Dean Lane. These three are all within walking distance of the house and all serve good food.

Best Restaurants are: The White Oak, Cookham Pound, Bel and the Dragon, Cookham High Street and two fantastic Indian Restaurants: Spice Merchant and Malik’s, both situated in Cookham High Street. Slightly further afield (15 minutes’ drive), we have the picturesque village of Bray, famous for its Michelin* restaurants, The Waterside Inn and The Fat Duck. The Hinds Head and The Crown - both under the ownership of Heston Blumenthal - are also good for food as is Caldesi in Campagna, Old Mill Lane, Bray.

There is also a Chinese restaurant and a Thai restaurant both in Cookham High Street.

Take Aways : Pizza Dreams Cafe, Cookham Rise (just along from Country Store) Chillis Indian take away (in the car park) Spice Merchant and Malik’s
