Delightful remote getaway in the Tuscan hills.

We absolutely loved the peace and tranquility of this home. The views were beautiful and the house was spacious with a fantastic private terrace and pool. The location is very remote and there is no wifi but what better way to get away from it all!

Lovely secluded getaway

We had a fabulous stay in this villa located in the beautiful Tuscan hills. The property is spacious and well-equipped, although rustic. The outdoor space and pool are wonderful. It is well off the beaten track, so ideal for those who want a secluded break, but a drive to get anywhere, including the local shop (20 minutes or so). The birthplace of Michelangelo is well worth a visit and we enjoyed a delicious pizza in Anghiari. Roger and Rhiannon were accommodating and very helpful throughout our stay. We would certainly recommend.

Wonderful place to relax

This really is a rural retreat. A lovely place if you want to get away from it all (no wifi and even the mobile signal is patchy). Gorgeous pool, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable bedrooms.

Perfect place for a relaxing break

We had a wonderful time at the villa and made excellent use of the pool during our stay! The villa is set in beautiful surroundings with amazing views. There are also fabulous local restaurants and Roger and Rhiannon were extremely helpful in recommending restaurants and booking for us. We also enjoyed trips to Arezzo, Sansepolcro and Siena. We would not hesitate to recommend this rural retreat.

About the host

Hosted by Roger Taylor

The rental property is in a small hamlet and is taken care of by Rhiannon and Roger, who live nearby. The owners live in New Zealand and visit every few years. We are on hand to give any help or information as required, and have a good knowledge of the area and places of interest. We speak Italian and can organise wine and oil tasting trips, guided tours of the Tiber Valley and bike hire, guided walks and many other activities. Rhiannon will be involved in running 2 yoga holiday this summer, and Roger is a professional photographer.

Why they chose this property

The floors of the woods abound with wild flowers and during spring the incredible tapestry of wild flowers is quite a sight to behold. Ground orchids now almost unheard of in Europe abound, along with violets, primroses, wild strawberries, heathers, lilies, and butterflies fill the air, as do the humming bird hawks with the scarce swallowtails who quite simply enjoy the terracotta vases on the terraces too. The deer, porcupine, hedgehogs, civet cats, black squirrels, badgers and wild boar are all regular visitors to both garden and woods.
Following the woodcutters’ track through the forest, you can arrive at a delightful restaurant in the woods, serving home cooked traditional Tuscan starters, pastas and pizzas. On warm summer weekends locals enjoy country dancing under the oaks.

What makes this property unique

The terraced garden leads down to the lower meadow that is bordered by a stream. The three cascades, which tumble freely into a lovely rock pool, are what inspired the name of the property. An inviting trail at the boundary of the property leads to nature lovers’ walks in the woods with spectacular views down the Tiber Valley. There is an excellent book on walking and maps available.
