Most delightful, relaxing week in a stunning setting

  • 5 of 5

The house and grounds in Ramila were welcoming and full of surprises. We were expecting to drive everyday to places to keep the children entertained, but during our 6 days, we found at least three lovely walking trails and one of them was the smugglers' route to Spain. The route was so varied and interesting that our 6-year old actually walked the whole 5 and a half hours to the Spanish frontier village and back. Part of the route was a scenic walk along the river Sever, which is fast flowing at places as it snakes through pretty white - somewhat deserted - villages and farmland. We picked walnuts and grapes and found mushrooms - most of them were edible as certified by the kind housekeeper Fatima, who was always available to give us advice and tell us about the area. The setting is out of a dream, and it was our dream holiday. The days when we didn't walk, we drove to the fortress town of Marvao, explored the castle, bought flour and local produce to bring back, and cooked pizza in the wood fire oven as the children and we read by the river. The closest roadside restaurant which is a 5-minute drive from the house, turns out to be a favourite for food connoisseurs and we met people who travelled all the way from Lisbon for lunch! We had two glorious days in late October and swam in the salt water pool made with natural stone and surrounded by ancient olive trees. I can go on....We're already looking forward to returning next Easter or Summer.

A little paradise

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place to stay... a hidden treasure. Our friends recommended we stay at this place as they had stayed there a few weeks ago and raved about it - and they were right. We choose to stay in the Mill house right down on the river. The house was really nicely furnished and very comfortable. But what we loved the most was the private balconies looking right on to the river. Although the weather was not hot, it was just perfect as the Portuguese sunshine combined with the shelter of the valley made it very pleasant. Highly recommended and would not hesitate to go again.

Wundervolles altes Haus in traumhafter Umgebung

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for all!

Location

Ruinas romanas Ammaia
Medieval Castle of Marvão

From the Owner

The Eco apartments are in a lovely Natural Park setting. There's an oven house, old animal house and BBQ for guests to use. There's also a restored Mill that sleeps up to 4 people and MIll Cottage for two. They sit in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of Portugal. The natural park of Sao Marmede has been allowed to flourish with its natural flora and fauna and an important haven for wildlife including bonelli eagles . The cork industry survives here, just. The area prides itself on the great chestnut festival in the autumn and the cuisine is local and simply portuguese. You are surrounded by nature and the very essence of the Lost Valley is a feeling of peace and serenity. Picnic by the river , or have a swim in our gorgeous new swimming pool. Days slowly pass in heavenly bliss!. Locally, there are two lovely historic walled castle towns which are essential visits. There's a lovely restored Mill by the river Sever too. Ideal for 4 people who want to enjoy nature and the beautiful surroundings.

From the Owner

Peace , calmness and serenity plum in the Natural Park. The scenery is amazing and the flowers and plants are exotic , unusual and very special. Walking trails and horse riding are great too. Best is relaxing by the river on one of the many sunny days with a glass of the excellent local wine, some fresh bread and cheese from the farmers' market.
