About Erika Daw

My husband and I have our own business based in Saffron Walden and Peterborough. We bought Glaven Cottage just over a year ago as we love the North Norfolk Coast and wanted a base from which to enjoy the coastline with our two small children (age 4 and 7). We have tried to me, the cottage a 'home from home' with everything you will need for the perfect beach holiday.

Erika Daw purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Erika Daw chose Holt

We fell in love with Glaven Cottage due to its location; a quiet courtyard of 6 houses but in the heart of the gorgeous town of Holt. It is only a few minutes walk from the lovely independent shops, restaurants, pubs, supermarket and Byfords (for warm croissants baked each morning, really good coffee and wifi). Only a few minutes drive away are the stunning quays of Blakeney and Morston (home of the seal trips and crabbing) and the wonderful beaches of Wells, Holkham, Sheringham and Cromer. Holt Country Park has fantastic walks and the children highly recommend the playground at Holkham. The whole area is a haven for fantastic restaurants serving fresh local produce.

What makes this cottage unique

Only 2-3 minutes walk from Holt town centre with off street parking.

Only 10 minutes drive to fantastic beaches and marsh walks.

Recently renovated in country cottage/coastal style.

South facing patio for sunny days and log burner for cosy evenings.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Spent a lovely week at Glaven Cottage. Great central location in Holt. Easy driving to local beaches. Very comfortable and cosy house with everything that you would need. Beach hut available to hire at Wells through Doodle Pots just down the road. The seal trips from Morston are a must. Try the lovely Deli Byfords and Kings head for a good pub in walking distance. Very relaxing week - thank you.

Nearest airport Norwich. Trains direct to London from Norwich and Kings Lynn.

3 mins walk to Holt town centre. The town of Holt is just 4 miles from the pretty quays of Blakeney and Morston (the starting point for seal watching trips to Blakeney point). The gorgeous beaches of Wells next the Sea, Holkham and Sheringham are only 10 miles away. Holt Country park has lovely guided walks, playground, sculptures and where wild ponies can be seen grazing at the edge.

Further Details:

The locally renowned Byfords restaurant/bar/deli/bakery as a couple of minutes walk away. Great please to pick up freshly baked croissants and takeaway coffee in the morning. It's also a good place to linger and take advantage of the free WiFi (also available at The Kings Head). Holt also has many one off interior shops, gift shops, art galleries, cafés and designer boutiques. The Fortnum and Masons of Norfolk, Barkers and Larners department store sells everything you may need (as well as tempting you to buy things you don't). There is a large Budgens in the town centre just across the High Street.

Very clean, comfortable, very good location, tastefully decorated

  • 5 of 5

We had a week in this lovely cottage. If you've never been to Holt before you will soon appreciate that having a parking space is a bonus as Holt itself quaint as it is doesn't have much off road parking for town centre locations. It is a little tight but you do get used to it.

The cottage was spotlessly clean, beds very comfortable. The shower was powerful, so nice to have a home from home shower as often you stay places and the shower is feeble. Facilities were good some good films (if the weather poor) well equipped kitchen, although we tended to eat out. Byfords Deli we practically ate there every night, either takeaway or the restaurant itself, really enjoyed their food. Early morning trip to Byfords for coffee and warm croissants was so nice, and Holt despite being a market town was lovely and peaceful in the morning.

Having never been to Norfolk before we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Recommend getting a train to Sheringham, you can get a bus from town centre to the station or take a walk (about 1.5 miles). Really enjoyed Holkham, Cookies Crab Shop at Salthouse, go for the Royale salad options. Cromer crab, for some reason tasted so much better there ;o).

One piece of advice go for the Norfolk Passport, although we found the rest of Norfolk had never heard of it Byfords and a number of other businesses in Holt accept this card and it gets you 10% off your food bill.

Beautiful cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Glaven cottage, Holt in September 2016 with two friends. The cottage was spotlessly clean and welcoming with everything that we required. Short car journeys to the coast, Wells-Next-the-sea, Sherringham, Holkham and Cromer. Also you can get a steam train from Holt to Sherringham. The cottage is located in the village and we were therefore able to walk to the local restaurants each evening. The Kings Head, The Feathers and Byfords. All very good. Erika was very helpful and provided lots of information. There is a very narrow spiral staircase, so may not be suitable for very elderly. I would recommend this cottage and will stay again when visiting the area.

Lovely homely cottage, great location

  • 4 of 5

Family of 4, lovely big kitchen / dining room with space for kids to play. Nice to have access from this to gravelled seating area. Kitchen well equipped. Useful equipment for beach. Beware the stairs are steep so we had a light on in case our two year old wandered out his room in the night. Good storage space in bedrooms .

Very handy for lovely Holt town and a short drive to the beach. We enjoyed going to wells and west Runton beach and blakeney harbour . Looked like there were many other places to explore that we didn't have time for. Very much enjoyed our stay thank you .

Great spot and lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for us. Holt and all it has to offer are just on the doorstep. The cottage is spotlessly clean, nicely decorated and had everything we needed. The owners have clearly taken great care to make sure guests feel welcome and enjoy their stay - which we very much did.
