Large Stunning Family House With Lake And Sea Views - Torcross Village - Devon

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

House near, Kingsbridge, South Devon, Devon, England - Unique - Loft- New England Style House Unparalleled Sea Views

Bayfeld is a unique house - Sitting in a 1 acre garden and woodland plot at the end of a private (shared) drive our vast wooden front deck provides unparalleled and uninterrupted views over Lake, Sea and Village.

Bright, stunning, white open plan interiors with exposed roof beams and designer furniture and fittings - the house is airy - open and provides huge space for relaxing, dining with friends or just being with family.

Our private garden surrounds the house with lawn, BBQ and garden furniture at the rear to soak up the late afternoon sun. A short walk up through our private woodland leads to a raised viewing clearing ideal for sundowners, kids camp etc (again with breathtaking views) Parking at the side of the house is ample - easily for 5 cars (we have had many more!) and the bespoke wet room by the front door provides an ideal place for sandy beach gear, wet suits, wellies and raincoats.

This house is unique for its style, space and open aspect. Light floods in from all sides. Theres no country cottage chintz or old faded spendour - this house is funky, modern, comfortable and as much like a New York Loft or California beach house as it is Devon dwelling. We love it and regard it very much as our 'other' home not a holiday home so its a place you simply won't want to leave.

The house offers 4 large double rooms, 2 en-suite with a third family bathroom for use by the other two bedrooms. All rooms have double patio doors with access directly onto the ground floor decking and gardens. The house is surrounded by beach pebbles and wild grasses as part of the planting in keeping with its location.

The house has WiFi available throughout and TV upstairs and downstairs. There is Telephone available to use free for local calls but non local, international or calls to mobiles will be charged back. THERE IS STRONG MOBILE SIGNAL THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE

The house is reversed in as much as the main and huge open plan living and dining area is upstairs to take advantage of the incredible views. The upstairs also meets the garden as the land rises behind the house.

The bedrooms, wet room, utility room, boiler / plant room and bathrooms are all downstairs although there is an additional toilet upstairs.

Bathroom and kitchen fittings are all of deluxe standard. The Utility room boasts a sink, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a wet room and a drying rack in the boiler room for additional drying.

The house has full central heating, electricity and gas cooker. All doors can be locked without the need for keys on departure (the front door requires key entry).

There is a charcoal BBQ for use in the garden.

There is a log burner stove in the main living room and logs are available for use from the woodshed.

PLEASE NOTE that the house is a no smoking house - as there are more than sufficient outside spaces for the odd tab!

Rubbish is bagged and placed weekly at the end of the drive for collection. Devon is the no 1 county for recycling so relevant bags will be available. please recycle.

A short walk gets you to one of several pubs and the nearest beach which stretches for over 3 miles. At the beach you can pick up the coast path and walk along the stunning cliffs and beaches all the way to Salcombe if you have the legs for it and beyond (in fact you could walk all the way to Minehead but thats about 200 miles!!!).......Or you could just stop at the beach for a well earned coffee . full English breakfast or high tea at the Sea Breeze cafe or a few yards further on - the unique Start Bay Inn - with its thatched roof and stupidly large and delicious plates of fish and chips!

Within easy and short driving distance is the stunning beach of Blackpool Sands with its superb beach cafe , Restaurant and shop. This is a private beach so you have to pay to enter and park but it's worth it.

A little further gets you - via one of the most scenic drives in England - to the historic naval town of Dartmouth (with pubs, shops, the castle, hotels, fishing trips, fish and chips, pasties and so much more).

Continuing on from Dartmouth theres the riverside gem of the village if Dittisham nestled on the banks of the river Dart - an ideal place for pub lunch or cafe stop, a stroll and a spot of shore scrambling and crabbing for the kids.

Turning left out of the House towards Kingsbridge you could take the back roads to East Prawle - with its lighthouse at Prawle Point (it's actually England's southern most point ) and the famous Pigs Nose pub - haunt of holiday makers, locals and the odd rock band (who have been known to play in the adjacent village hall). Why not stop en-route and check out the deserted fishing village at Hallsands - Spooky!

If you don't turn off to East Prawl but instead keep going straight you will head towards Kingsbridge - an ancient town again with fantastic local shops, pubs and restaurants.

The Crabshell pub sits on the waterfront and offers all day dining including Pizzas and is a buzzing meeting point for locals and holiday makers. Its also the HQ for the local Paddleboard SUP so if you would like to have a lesson - try your hand at paddleboarding or rent some paddleboards - then this is a good place to start.

Salcombe - now the jewel of the South Hams and indeed all of England in terms of shoreside Real Estate this is a yachties paradise with the shops, boutiques and pubs to match and of course boats - lots of them! If you fancy renting a boat for the day or joining a mackeral fishing trip - then this is a good place to head for. There are plenty of car parks so you can walk into this tiny town with its winding narrow streets and browse and saunter and eat and drink.

In the same general direction are Bantham, Thurlstone, Bigbury and Burr Island - famous for its legendary house parties in the 20's for the likes of Nowell Coward and his band of merry men. Bantham is a huge - sweeping sandy beach and the main centre for Surfing in the area. This is a great destination with kids if you want a total Devon beach day! There's surf hire and lessons available from the beach. Thurlestone is another stunning sandy beach in the same area and has the added attraction for some of boasting a great links golf course. An added gem is the beach shack - a small un-presupposing wooden shack overlooking the beach that serves one of the best seafood platters in Devon.

If cycling is your thing - there are few places that can match the scenery (and the gradients ) that this coast road has to offer (please be careful as the roads can be quite dangerous with narrow sections and blind corners) Torcross is essentially situated slap bang in the middle of everything the South Hams has to offer so come and see for yourself. Enjoy!

About Mandy Katz

Hello - we are the Katz Family

We have been coming to Devon and specifically the South Hams since forever and have fallen hopelessly in love with this unspoilt, beautiful corner of England.

We spend our time on the stunning beaches at Bantham, South Milton, Torcross (just a 4 minute walk from the house) and many others and the River Dart - paddle-boarding, canoeing, surfing, swimming and fishing.

We meet our friends at many of the historic local pubs enjoying a pint and real fish and chips - the way its supposed to be!

Then of course there's the doing nothing time - sitting on our huge deck looking out at the breathtaking 180 degree views of the sea and the lake right in front of the house.

Once you've been here - your hooked forever and you'll just keep coming back.

Mandy Katz purchased this house in 2010

Why Mandy Katz chose South Hams

THis house is perfect as it sits in the centre of all the South Hams has to offer. Its on the main route between Kingsbridge and Dartmouth yet set in its own private grounds with views over the whole of Salton Sands and the Lake (Slapton Ley)

You can walk, cycle or drive to beaches, pubs, shops.

The locals are friendly and welcoming and the area is famous for its long and rich history.

What makes this house unique

Very few houses have a view like this one and the open space to entertain and enjoy being with friends and family.

Everything is on the door step or nearby and the beach and seafront being less than 5 minutes walk make it a sensational place to stay.

Superb House and Location

  • 5 of 5

This property is fabulous. The house and its furnishings, views and gardens are a delight. Our stay included three generations, comfortable and enjoyable, with generous rooms, ample and high quality equipment. The local farm shop is very close by and had wonderful produce. It's a short, easy walk to Torcross and the beach. You're close to so many places to visit and lovely Kingsbridge for fun shopping, not that you will want to leave the house. We loved Bayfield and if you want a stay that is memorable stay here.

Wonderful house in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We had the good fortune to stay at Bayfield for Christmas with our daughters and their families. What a wonderful house, just beautiful inside and out, in a fabulous location, the winter rise and sunsets were to die for. Very well equipped kitchen, with a spot on massive fridge freezer just what we needed. Everyone loved the views, the garden, the wood burner, so cosy and with the beach and pub in walking distance it made a really perfect venue. Thanks go to Mandy and Mark who were very helpful with everything, thank you. We would highlight recommend Bayfield :)

Beautiful South Hams stay

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what a truly beautiful place Bayfield is. The pictures really do not do this holiday rental justice!! Mandy was so professional and has been incredibly helpful throughout the entire booking process; a real delight.

For the first time in our many stays over the years in the south hams district, as a family we felt so comfortable here that we almost felt compelled to make use of our time at Bayfield and as such, spent many days relaxing indoors as opposed to venturing out. The true beauty in the design of his holiday home is that everyone, no matter how big a party size, has their own space to relax and not feel on top of each other.

The stunning views across Slapton Ley and beyond, the gorgeous landscaped garden, the tasteful decor and comfy bedrooms all made our stay so very enjoyable. Our only regret is that we could not stay for longer, We will definitely be returning in future. A true gem of South Devon!

Thank you so much Mandy.

We LOVED this house.

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we pulled up the drive, we knew that this was going to be a good place to stay. The house was immaculate. There was a lovely welcome package in the kitchen. Information about local amenities and attractions was thorough. The house was stylish and comfortable. The views were amazing. I would strongly recommend this as a place for a holiday in Devon. Great places to eat locally, especially the fish and chips. Log burning stove. Lovely gardens. So cosy. We are looking forward to staying again sometime soon. Russell and Jason.

Bayfield is truly amazing, it certainly has the Wow factor. We felt at home from the moment we stepped through the front door. You literally feel all the stress of everyday life melt away. Everything you need has been catered for. The house was warm at all times with plenty of hot water aswell , which is great when there are 7 people plus a baby.

The furnishings and decorations, art work, books etc are fabulous. The bathrooms are lovely and the bathroom in the master bedroom is to die for.

The owners Mandy and Mark are extremely helpful and nothing was to much trouble.

Thank you Carol & Selby
