About the property

Cottage in Wells-next-the-Sea, North Norfolk, England - Quiet Location, 10 Min Walk To Quay With Beautiful Wells Beach Beyond

The house is a delightful brick and flint cottage which sleeps 4+baby in 2 bedrooms. Fully centrally heated and completely renovated this year, the house has a wonderfully sunny, south facing enclosed garden with a patio in which to relax in after a busy day on the beach. The house is dog friendly and we accept one well behaved dog. The cottage comprises of sitting room, kitchen and conservatory with dining room table downstairs and upstairs there are two good sized bedrooms and a large family bathroom which has a separate bath and shower. There is off street parking, books, games, toys and wifi. The house is situated within minutes of the Buttlands where there are fantastic award winning gastropubs. Wells Quay is a few minutes walk away where you can watch the local fishermen bring in their catches and children can have great fun fishing for crabs off the 'Albatros' clipper boat. From here you can take the miniature steam train down to Wells beach with it's brightly painted huts and if you are lucky, spot a seal or two. There is so much to do here from sailing and bird watching to enjoying the outdoor cinema at Holkham. What about booking a chocolate making workshop at the Chocolate Deli in Walsingham! Wells Carnival in August and the Pirate Festival in September are also great fun. There is wonderful Christmas shopping in the area. Burnham Market has some fantastic shops and Christmas is celebrated with pretty lights and a skating rink on the green. Father Christmas arrives In Wells Quay by boat, under a display of fireworks at the beginning of December, there are also craft tents on the Buttlands too.

HOT TUB RENTAL now available. £195 for long weekend, £250 for a week.

About Jane Wilson

Grey Seal Cottage is owned by Jon and Jane. We live in Norfolk and love coming to Wells with our 3 children and our dog Nelly. We spend many happy hours on the beautiful beach here and enjoy exploring the wonderful North Norfolk Coast. We always leave the cottage feeling a lot more relaxed than when we arrived!

Jane Wilson purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Jane Wilson chose North Norfolk & Coast

Wells is fantastic for it's 'bucket and spade' lifestyle. Our children love to wander about the town, buying sweets from the sweet shop, fishing off the quay and swinging off the ropes in the woods next to the beach.

Location

Coast/Beach:

Wells beach is just over a mile away. You can walk, drive, cycle or take the miniature steam train. It has a wonderful beach, pine forest walks and a fantastic beach cafe. Holkham beach is a 3 mile drive away.

Travel:

A car is handy to have in this part of the world to properly explore the delights of the area. However there is the Coasthopper bus service which runs the length of the coast.

Distances:

Wells-next-the-Sea beach - 1.5 miles

Holkham Hall (beautiful beach and magnificent estate) - 3 miles

Cley-next-the-Sea (pretty village, galleries and wonderful birdwatching) - 10 miles

Seal trips at Blakeney point - 6 miles

Pensthorpe nature reserve (featured in BBC's 'Springwatch') - 12 miles

Sandringham Estate - 20 miles

Titchwell Marsh RSPB Reserve - 12 miles

Wells and Walsingham Light Railway - 0.6 miles

Splash Leisure Centre for rainy days Sheringham - 17 miles

Further Details:

We are still lucky in Wells to have independent shops including bakeries, butchers and fruit and vegetable shops who sell great local produce. A new Coop has been built a few minute's walk away which is very handy, past the Church and the field of alpacas! There are several fantastic restaurants in Wells, it is worth booking in the high season.

Cosy, charming and perfectly located cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our second stay at this adorable fisherman's cottage. We love the location and the cosy feel to the cottage. The garden is child, dog and BBQ friendly and the 'little extras' all make for a perfect experience. We hope to go back a third time!!

A perfect holiday home in a brilliant location. Have visited this home before and am returning later this year and next year. Welcoming owners. So much to do in the local area. We come winter and summer.

Like a home from home

  • 5 of 5

From the outset Jane has been well organised and attentive. On arrival the cottage was ready earlier than expected and Jane had left us a selection of cookies and a bottle of wine - a nice touch. The cottage is lovely, just as described. Just the right size for a family of 4 with enough room to spread out and a large garden, which is something of a rarity for a cottage in Wells. The accommodation is tastefully decorated and furnished, and well equipped. The master bedroom could do with more clothes hanging space. The location is excellent, just a few minutes walk from the Buttlands and town centre and the road is relatively quiet. Off road parking is a must in Wells and the space in front of grey seal is more than adequate. I would thoroughly recommend grey seal cottage as a base to explore Wells and the surrounding area.

Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was everything we hoped for. The standard of accommodation was excellent. All the essentials were there. It was is a great position. Close to the town centre, next to a good pub and easy access to the other attractions in the area. Good position for cyclists with quite roads only a few hundred yards away. Nice welcome pack with a bottle of wine. Quite and secluded rear garden. Well worth it.May be back!

Very Dog friendly.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at the cottage. I especially enjoyed the location because we were close enough to walk to the harbour and beach but in a very quiet area with the bonus of parking. The garden is a good size just brilliant for our large bouncy labradoodle! Jane was very quick to respond to queries. We had a fab week and I would love to return.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, garden was lovely for our 2 young children. Location was perfect just a short stroll to a the main Street of Shops and cafes in town and a short walk to the harbour for crabbing, park and train to the beach. We also had the additional hire of the hot tub which really made the evenings lovely too. Would definitely go back.
