The house is a delightful brick and flint cottage which sleeps 4+baby in 2 bedrooms. The house is dog friendly and we accept one well behaved dog. From here you can take the miniature steam train down to Wells beach with it's brightly painted huts and if you are lucky, spot a seal or two. Wells Carnival in August and the Pirate Festival in September are also great fun. There is wonderful Christmas shopping in the area. Burnham Market has some fantastic shops and Christmas is celebrated with pretty lights and a skating rink on the green. Father Christmas arrives In Wells Quay by boat, under a display of fireworks at the beginning of December, there are also craft tents on the Buttlands too.

About Jane Wilson

Grey Seal Cottage is owned by Jon and Jane. We live in Norfolk and love coming to Wells with our 3 children and our dog Nelly. We spend many happy hours on the beautiful beach here and enjoy exploring the wonderful North Norfolk Coast. We always leave the cottage feeling a lot more relaxed than when we arrived!

Jane Wilson purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Jane Wilson chose Wells-next-the-Sea

Wells is fantastic for it's 'bucket and spade' lifestyle. Our children love to wander about the town, buying sweets from the sweet shop, fishing off the quay and swinging off the ropes in the woods next to the beach.

Lovely little cottage on picturesque Norfolk coast

  • 5 of 5

If you love the traditional English coast, you'll definitely love staying at Grey Seal cottage. Situated in Wells-next-the-Sea, this charming, brick-built property exudes charm and comfort in equal abundance. Refurbished throughout with tasteful coastal chic-style décor and accessories, it is surprisingly roomy with plenty of space to accommodate four people. The fully fitted kitchen opens onto a conservatory that serves as a sunny dining area. The lounge is fitted with two sofas and an open fireplace can make the atmosphere extra cosy.. Upstairs, there's a modern shower/bathroom with a double bed bedroom and two single beds in the other bedroom. All linens and soft furnishings are bright and cheerful adding to the cottage's charm. Perfect for self catering and as a base to explore the delightful north Norfolk coast and surrounding area cottage boasts a car parking space. Definitely a bonus in Wells. I can guarantee you'll want to make a return visit!

Another Fabulous stay

  • 5 of 5

Returned to this wonderful cottage the same week as last year. Sparkling clean on arrival, nice welcome pack to greet us. We arrived a little early but the cottage was already available. Very well equipped, cosy and warm, even more so when we got the fire going. Fabulous huge bath to soak in after our long walks. Wells is a lovely town with lots of nice independent shops, a fab butchers, lots of great places to eat out. A large Co-op just around the corner for all your essentials if you decide to stop in.

Great walks from the doorstep. Walk along the spit to the beach, all the way to Holkam bay, up to Holkam hall and around the grounds, then back again, (a pint in the Victoria half way!).

Did a lovely circular walk setting off from Sheringham park, (left the walk print out in the red box), 8 mile circular taking in the forest and parkland of Sheringham, Weybourne, the coast path and back again. Walked the coast path to Stiffkey, Red Lion for lunch, (very good), also onto Blakeney, lunch at the Kings Arms, also good. Holt is a nice day out, cute market town with some nice retail therapy for a change. Did Brancaster bay, spectacular huge beach, if you turn left as you get on from the car park and walk up to the creek, then follow that inland for a few hundred metres, you will come to a couple of big ponds, if you sit and wait the 3 seals that live there will pop out and come see you for your own private show. What a treat! Other nice places to eat out, The George at Cley is very good, a real treat is the Dabbling duck at Great Massingham, just off the A148, about 20 mins drive, well worth it.

The North Norfolk coast is well worth a visit, great for families, great for couples, great for dogs. Lots and lots to do. If you do go, stop at grey seal cottage, it really is a wonderful place to stay and Jane the owner will do anything to make your stay a memorable one.

Fabulous Festive Stay

  • 5 of 5

This is our third stay at this cottage but also stayed at one of Jane’s other cottages.

What can we say that we haven't already it just the best place to stay we fell in love with this cottage and Wells last Xmas and will always return why ever Jane will have us.

The cottage is clean comfortable and everything you need is supplied or close to hand.

Jane is brillliant with anything you need to know or want.

This year we stopped a extra day due to enjoying New Years Eve in Wells and it wasn’t a mistake.

Our son and his partner also joined us and it was Natasha’s first time in Wells and at the cottage like us she fell in love with both.

Jane thank you so much for helping us enjoy a fabulous Xmas and New Year while creating amazing memories.

Love The Williams 💖😘

Charming cottage - a real home from home.

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful stay at Grey Seal cottage. It was beautifully clean, fresh crisp linen and even fresh flowers in the bedroom which was a lovely touch. The secure garden was perfect for our dog and hired in hot tub (also recommended). Great location in wells as only a short walk to the Main Street, shops & pubs with a good sized Co-op round the corner. The owner Jane kindly left a pack of local biscuits and bottle of white for our arrival, again a lovely touch. Overall a super stay and would highly recommend to others - SD

Our second stay at this adorable fisherman's cottage. We love the location and the cosy feel to the cottage. The garden is child, dog and BBQ friendly and the 'little extras' all make for a perfect experience. We hope to go back a third time!!

Further Details:

We are still lucky in Wells to have independent shops including bakeries, butchers and fruit and vegetable shops who sell great local produce. A new Coop has been built a few minute's walk away which is very handy, past the Church and the field of alpacas! There are several fantastic restaurants in Wells, it is worth booking in the high season.
