Cottage on Island Wall Whitstable, Kent, England - Opposite The Beach And Behind The High Street

ROSE COTTAGE (2 bedrooms) is set back from the road in a row of old smugglers' cottages. Spread across 3 floors. Rose is an iconic Whitstable property, refurbished to a high specification (John Lewis and Laura Ashley throughout) but retaining many original features. Quaint and cosy, this property is ideally located for the beach and the many independent shops and restaurants in the high street - just a 2 minute walk away.

Please note the stairs are steep! Children and dogs are very welcome.

Fantastic new year !!

Rose cottage is a lovely place to stay for a break .

Great Location right next to the harbour .

Very clean and comfortable !!!

Nice welcome pack with a few essentials !!!

One thing I would say is don't get the cottage mixed up with

The smugglers cottage a few doors down .

As in the write up both sets of photos are together !!

Only a minor observation to point out !!

Would return again but maybe to the smugglers next time !

Very clean and very comfortable accommodation.

Cottage was in a great location- walking distance to pubs, restaurants and lots of lovely "seaside themed shops" with lovely wooden and silver boating decorations. Only downside to the location was the parking which was limited. Monday to Friday Between 8.30 a.m. and six p.m. you can only park free for an hour. There was a small paying car park close by which charged £1.10 an hour.

Whitstable itself was very quaint, charming and interesting with lots of little lanes to walk through. We much preferred it to Herne Bay which was bigger and a bit more " tackie".

As previous reviewers mentioned, be careful on the stairs in the cottage. They are narrow and steep! Beds were good quality and very comfortable with lovely bed linen. We enjoyed our short stay.

One suggestion- I believe the owner has two cottages- Rose Cottage ( where we stayed) and Smuggler's Cottage. On the web site the photos are all together, although it does say at the bottom which one it is but when you look at them together you get confused which bedroom, for example, is in which cottage. I think they should be listed separately.

Everything you need for a holiday by the sea

The property is a small cottage one road back from the beach. There are views of the sea from the top floor bedroom. The location is fantastic, beach, restaurants, cafes, shops all within a couple of minutes walk.

The cottage is very clean and comfortable. Downstairs is a very pleasant living room with a sofa, armchairs, beanbags. Kitchen is small but very well equipped including baby items such as highchairs. On the first floor is a large, pretty bathroom and twin bedroom. Second floor is a double bedroom, stairs are steep and care should be taken particularly when walking down the stairs.

Outside is a lovely little garden with furniture to sit out when the sun shines.

Another bonus for us is the cottage is dog friendly so our 2 labs had a fantastic few days running along the beach.

I would highly recommend this property; it feels as though the owners have put a great deal of thought into making the property as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Fantastic cottage

The cottage is nothing short of excellent and the owner has thought about everything holidaymakers could possibly need providing thoughtful touches like a bucket/spade, umbrella (for the rain!).

We regularly come to Whistable and this cottage is definitely a favourite for us. It is cosy, yet roomy enough for six people. The garden gets enough sunshine to eat outdoors. It's also located very close to the beach and the town as well as Windy Corner Store which really know how to do breakfast.

Five stars all round for this cottage.

Excellent location in a great town

We stayed for the weekend and thought it was perfect. It is a small traditional fisherman's cottage but has been decorated beautifully and as all the modern conveniences needed for a great stay. The beach and town is on your doorstep and there are a great range of restaurants within walking distance. Parking is an issue in Whitstable, in general, but as this was our second visit to the town, we were well prepared for this and used the station car park for £2.10 a day. Overall, we will be back in the future.

Nearest Golf : Whitstable gold course at 1 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Pearsons and many more at 1 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Opposite at 50 Metres Car: not necessary

Special interest holidays:

Lots of lovely cycle-routes including the Crab and Winkle (to Canterbury) or coastal routes to Faversham (east) and Broadstairs (west).


Island Wall runs parallel to the beach and can be found between the two iconic pubs - the Neptune and the Oyster Company. The entrance to the beach is opposite Rose Cottage


Rose Cottage (by road) is 90 minutes away from Gatwick airport, 30 minutes from the Channel Ports and Ashford Intl Eurostar Station and 5-10 minutes from Whitstable station where there are regular services from Central London Mainline Stations.


Canterbury is a 20 minute drive (35 on the bus) and the whole of the Isle of Thanet is accessible by road and rail - pop over to the Tate at Margate, Dickens in Broadstairs, or enjoy one of the many charming beaches, villages and towns of this beautiful area of Kent. Don't forget Grove Ferry, Druidstone Park, Farming World and so many more.
