About the property

Cottage in St Ives, Cornwall, England - 3 Bed, 2 Bath. Minutes from the beach, situated in the conservation area of Downalong.

2 Island Square is a Grade II listed 3 storey fisherman’s cottage built around 1850. The cottage has been sympathetically restored throughout to the highest standard, with great attention to detail, and a wealth of original features reinstated to protect its character. It has a light, contemporary interior, with quality furnishings and excellent amenities throughout.

The cottage has complimentary Superfast Broadband so you can stay in touch with what’s going on in the world. The addition of a log burner, gas central heating, and non-stop hot water, makes it also a perfect retreat for a Winter Break. We welcome well behaved dogs by arrangement, to stay on the ground floor only.

The ground floor is an open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room. It has a fully fitted kitchen with Neff oven, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher and washing machine and an abundance of quality cookware and china. There is a folding dining table with seating for 6 and being a family friendly cottage there is also a children’s table and chairs and dining sets provided. The sitting area has 2 leather sofas and a large digital TV and DVD player.

There are 3 tastefully decorated bedrooms and 2 luxurious bathrooms. On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms, one with double bed, and the other with full size bunk beds (suitable for adults) and a bathroom with large power shower and toilet. On the top floor there is a further bedroom with double bed, and a bathroom complete with full size bath and toilet. All bedrooms have flat screen digital TVs, luxury bed linen and towels so you will be guaranteed a comfortable stay.

Guests are asked to bring beach towels and are reminded that the cottage is non smoking.

Beautifully presented extremely well looked after cottage with everything you could possibly need

  • 5 of 5

From the minute we chose the cottage Alison, the owner, was nothing but helpful and always responded so promptly. The cottage was stunning, so clean and well presented. The beautiful finishing touches showed the care and attention to detail Alison makes for those staying in her cottage. There were lovely welcome gifts from a bottle of wine and delicious biscuits to an Easter basket of chicks and chocolate eggs that the kids were delighted to pounce on. There was milk and tea as well as all the utensils and equipment you could possibly need. Alison also offered suggestions of places to go and the best places to eat, even pulling a few strings to get us in a fantastic restaurant one night! There’s a helpful info pack in the cottage that she has made that’s well worth a read if you like stunning walks, eating and drinking! The cottage itself is just perfectly located! One street led to a litttle convenience store with fresh local produce, one to a large open green hill with views to die for and perfect for our dog to run and make friends, another to an all year round dog beach and the last just a stones throw from the main harbour, some amazing shops and restaurants (really can’t go wrong in any of them) and the wonderful Sloop, the oldest pub ever, which serves the most amazing food and rhubarb gin! The icing on the cake was, quite literally, Olives cafe opposite the cottage that served the best cream tea I have ever had and believe me I’ve had plenty!!! The cottage is snug but that’s normal for traditional fisherman’s cottages but the extra room and bathroom upstairs made all the difference and we found it perfect for all the family and our dog. We were able to fit his crate and a small pen area in the kitchen/lounge. With a tv in every room there were no complaints from the kids and giving our teenager the room at the top kept everyone happy. She was delighted to find her tv had a usb plug in so she could watch movies on rainy days that she didn’t want to come on any walks or outings (she preferred to shop as there were plenty of her favourites to visit). We didn’t use the car the whole week but the location of the parking space included was ideal. There was room to stop at the road side right outside the property to unload before moving the car to the car park which was just a few hundred yards down the road.

Another added bonus was really comfy beds and a log burner which was the perfect addition to our wintery break.

Terrific!!!

  • 5 of 5

We were two friends on this trip with my elderly Westie. The cottage was sparkling clean when we arrived with a very welcome bottle of wine waiting in the fridge after a very long train journey.

I’ve rented a few properties in St Ives over the years and 2 Island Square is in by far the best location. A terrific array of restaurants nearby, beaches literally on your doorstep and lovely Olive’s cafe, with scones to die for, opposite. Heaven!!! The Island proved to be a great place for us for both an early morning walk and to watch the sunset.

The kitchen was very well equipped and the beds were first rate. We all slept really well as the cottage is situated in such a quiet area of St Ives. It’s so well maintained and obviously a much loved house.

We saw Alison a few times during our stay as she was running Olive’s cafe during half term week and she couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful.

We hope to return again next year and wouldn’t hesitate to book 2 Island Square.

Ideal cottage for a relaxing break

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks in this lovely cottage over Christmas and New Year. The cottage is immaculately clean with all modern facilities you could need for a memorable stay. We loved being so close to all the beaches and as it was winter the beach dog ban was lifted and our 2 furballs spent many happy hours in the surf. I had originally chosen the cottage as there was a fire but as the cottage is so well heated, we had little need to light it. There are 3 floors and as our parents are not as agile, we let them stay in the middle floor and we went 'up top'. The top floor has a great layout with a double bedroom and bathroom but beware if you are tall - you may bump your head on the beams!

The owner is friendly and welcoming. She obviously takes great pride in the cottage and was kind enough to source a Christmas tree (and other goodies) for our arrival.

Our son enjoyed the bunk beds, the ambundance of pillows and the chocolates left in his room.

For eats I would recommend Olives Cafe opposite for the freshest tasty scones, cakes and quiche, Scoff Troff Cafe for a great butty, and Porthminster Beach Cafe's Monkfish curry is a real treat. As for things to do in winter, I would recommend The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and a walk around The Island - great fun during a high wind!

I would also highly recommend New Years Eve in St Ives. They say it is the biggest fancy dress in Cornwall! Great family fun and the fireworks display was great.

I would certainly recommend this Cottage to my friends and family.

Brilliant cottage in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from another relaxing holiday in this cottage, from the very beginning it's easy to unload your car, as you can pull up straight outside the front door.

When entering the cottage you are welcomed by flowers and gifts for all the family, including the dogs! The cottage is always spotless and the towels and linen always clean and fresh.

The great thing for us is that this cottage is always so clean and tidy and yet has the added bonus of allowing dogs.

The kitchen area is well equipped with quality appliances in which we cooked a large family meal. The bathroom and shower room have heated towel rails and unlimited hot water. The heating system warms the cottage quickly for when the the temperature drops outside.

The location is great, as it's right in the centre of the fishermen's cottages with the front door opening onto a square and not a main road, making it safer for children. Also it's ideal for all the main attractions of the town and beaches, especially Porthmeor Beach (surfing beach) as you can easily walk to and from the beach in your wet suit with your board, then when returning an outside tap is available to rinse down.

I have recommended this property to friends and family in which resulted them booking.

Alison is very proud of her cottage and wishes everyone a great holiday, she is always willing to help and answer any questions.

Special interest holidays:

As well as the many beaches and art galleries in St Ives, 2 Island Square is the perfect base to explore all of what Cornwall has to offer.

There is the Eden Project, perhaps Cornwall’s most internationally famous attraction, where not only can you see what grows in the biomes but they also have many events going on throughout the year from music gigs to circus extravaganzas, there is something for everyone.

Other places worth visiting include the quaint fishing village of Port Isaac – the location of ITV’s Doc Martin, and Porthcurno – home of the Minack Theatre and a beach with the most turquoise sea you will see in Britain.

Coast/Beach:

Our cottage is less than a 5 minute walk to four of St Ives' spectacular Beaches including Porthmeor Beach, Porthgwidden Beach, Barnaluz (dog friendly) Beach and the Harbour Beach.

Further Details:

Our Cottage is perfectly situated in the heart of St Ives’ conservation area of ‘Downalong’, and is a level walk to all that St Ives offers.

Only minutes from both Porthmeor and Porthgwidden beaches, the Harbour and the Tate Gallery.

The Island Car park is a short walk away, as is The Sloop Inn one of Cornwall’s oldest and most famous Inns circa 1312.

If you fancy going further afield from St Ives you are perfectly situated to travel all over Cornwall whether it is to walk the coastal paths, have a day out at the fabulous Eden Project or visit some of the best beaches Europe has to offer and spend your days topping up your tan.
