Sao Martinho do Porto has a beautiful shell shaped bay which is sheltered from the Atlantic Ocean. This makes it a haven for safe, warm bathing in calm waters. The apartment is an elevated position with outstanding views of the bay and is just 75metres from the fine sandy beach. Close by is the old town which has a traditional Portuguese feel with its cobbled streets and tiled buildings adding to architectural interest. Various good local restaurants, some with fish and sea food specialities. There are many cafes and bars around the bay for a relaxing time watching the world go by! A daily market (excluding Monday) for fruit, vegetables and fish is well worth a visit. In July and August, the bay is lively with Portuguese holiday makers but it is quiet at other times. In the high season, activities available include swimming, sailing, surfing and canoeing in the bay. The summer weather is an average temperature is 27 degrees and winter temperatures are on average 17 degrees. Tourismo de Portugal Rental Licence Number AL13138. A great apartment in a great location.

This is a great apartment in a great location. We stayed here recently for 2 weeks and had a really enjoyable holiday. The apartment was very clean, very comfortable, and had everything we required in a holiday rental. The apartment occupies the top 2 floors of the development which means that you get great views, but you do have 2 flights of stairs to climb to gain access. While you overlook the pool, you access the apartment from the road at the back of the complex. It is in the old part of the town, beside the sea and close to the market, shops and restaurants. The owner was very helpful with any queries that we had and was quick to reply to any correspondence. We look forward to returning again soon!

Location

From the Owner

Having looked at a number of locations in Europe, we were drawn to Portuguese's Silver Coast and in particular the town of Sao Martinho do Porto. Although the area gets busy in July and August, it is quieter at other times. The apartment is easily accessible from the UK using budget airlines and a short (less than 60 minute) drive from Lisbon Airport. The old town has a real feel of old Portugal about it with charismatic features including tiled buildings. The local Portuguese people are very friendly and helpful. The restaurants usually have a good view across the bay which is lit up at night. Fish food in particular is very fresh and features in a lot of menus.

Coast/Beach:

Approximately 75m to the sandy beach which is gently shelving. Other Atlantic coast beaches to both the north and south are within 15 mins drive.

There are stunning sunsets over the ocean.

Travel:

Lisbon airport is an easy one hour drive along the picturesque and lightly trafficked A8. Porto is further away, approx. 2.5hrs drive.

Car hire is recommended although there is public transport from Lisbon.

Both Easyjet and Ryanair service both Lisbon and Porto. British Airways and TAP are also available.

Distances:

By, car the large town of Caldas da Rainha is approximately 25 mins and it has a number of large supermarkets and a shopping mall.

Alcobaca monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage site, 25 mins.

Obidos has an extensive medieval castle and walls, 25 mins.

Coimbra was the medieval capital of Portugal and is full of rich history. Visits to the remarkable Roman ruins at Coinimbriga are well worth while.

Further Details:

Walking distance to supermarket (15 - 20 mins) and local market (10 mins) which sells fresh fruit and vegetables and fish.

There are a lot of good restaurants, bars and cafes along the sea front which is only a few minutes walk from the apartment.

We enjoy the fantastic views across the bay from the elevated position of the apartment, particularly so from the upper balcony in the evening with a glass of wine or a cold beer. Most facilities, including restaurants and bars, are a short walk from the apartment. The shared pool and surrounding gardens are a real asset to the apartment.

  • Notes on accommodation: Equipped to a high standard throughout with comfortable beds and modern linen. Wardrobes in both bedrooms. Quiet elevated position with car parking on the street at the rear of the property. Only a few minutes walk from the beach, bars, restaurants and other facilities. The front balconies are south facing with fabulous views across the bay of Sao Martinho do Porto. Gardens and pool and nearby park make it an excellent apartment for children. Outside: The shared swimming pool, exclusive to residents of the apartments, is enclosed by gates which provide a safe environment for families. There is also a small, shallower pool adjacent to the main pool which is suitable for younger children. It is surrounded by attractive gardens and provides superb views across the bay of Sao Martino. Utility Room: Large storage cupboard with iron, ironing board, portable electric outside grill, vacuum cleaner, mop and other cleaning equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are included (not beach or pool towels). The apartment is cleaned before and after your stay. Cleaning and linen is managed locally and charged at 65 Euros to include meet and greet and key handover. Welcome packs available at a cost. Other: 4 balconies on two floors. Upstairs front balcony overlooks the bay and has a fitted bar table and chairs. Downstairs front balcony has patio table with 4 chairs. Sorry, no smoking or pets allowed.
