About the property

Sleeps 8, top quality(see reviews)12 x 4m private heated pool, spectacular views

A contemporary conversion of a classic Quercy stone barn, this spacious house sleeps 8 comfortably in 2 SuperKing size Doubles, 2 x Twin rooms. With 2 bathrooms (1 ensuite), separate wcs, all new in the last 24 months. Open plan kitchen, superb outdoor sofa area and new deck area.

The 12m x 4m heated pool is installed with a natural low salt/chlorine process - purification without horrible smell of chlorine pool smell (and kinder on the eyes).

Shaded terracing with BBQ and outdoor table and chairs for dining al fresco. Supremely comfortable outdoor sofa area.

Exceptionally quiet, rural village setting, small restaurant close by.

Surrounded by agricultural land and set within a small sleepy village the house is an excellent base to explore the beautiful medieval towns of Lauzerte, Montjoi and Moissac. Or snooze by the private heated pool and let the world come to you. There's a small classic (very friendly) French restaurant only moments from the house. Or we can put you in touch with a local professional chef who'll come and shop and cook for you. Slightly further afield, there's canoeing, horse-riding and golf. Walkers can enjoy the trails and long distance paths in the area and for cyclists the roads are generally quiet, pot-hole free with some excellent ups and even better downs. There are food markets to be visited most days of the week and night markets in the summer - Agen (where the prunes come from) is a favourite. The major international city of Toulouse is around 90 mins away, 90km from Bergerac airport.

There really is something for all tastes.

About Joanna Robinson

We are Jo and Tim Robinson, our main house is in Surrey in the UK. We love friends, family, France, food, wine, and peace & quiet. And comfort.

Le Clapier is our favourite place to unwind but unfortunately we can't get out as much as we'd like, probably because we run our own engineering business here in the UK.

But it seemed a shame not to share the house so here we are on Owners Direct. Please get in touch if you have any queries, we want you to enjoy your stay as much as we do.

Joanna Robinson purchased this villa in 2014

Why Joanna Robinson chose Miramont-de-Quercy

Tired of holidaying in poorly equipped properties with uncomfortable beds and disappointing showers, we set about to find a home from home and set it up as we wanted it. So luxury UK Superking divan beds, gushy hot water showers and clean, contemporary fittings are now installed for all to enjoy. Visiting this region in France, we immediately fell in love with the extraordinary peace and quiet not to mention the excellent food and wines. And then we found this lovely house, newly on the market, a stone's throw from a restaurant we already loved with a view we just couldn't walk away from. Coupled with excellent Broadband so we can work away from home if we need to, Springs that come early, Summers that stay late, good airport access and room for all the family when we can get together. Perfect.

We accept payment by bank transfer, cheque or credit card via this site

What makes this villa unique

Le Clapier is a real find.

-In a beautiful area dotted with medieval towns that still have weekly traditional food markets.

-large private salt-water heated swimming pool complete with sun-loungers and real stone terracing.

-A restaurant a stone's throw away for when we don't want to cook (or drive). Or we can put you in touch with a local ex-professional chef who can come and cook/shop for you.

-Plenty of walking in the countryside and some great sightseeing.

-Quiet and peaceful but not remote.

-Excellent restaurants in nearby towns and villages - this area is a gourmande's paradise.

-And the big city lights of Toulouse not that far away.

-Choice of low cost airports and easy car hire.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great holiday, and also a safe trip home thanks. Le Clapier was amazing, and you've been a pleasure to deal with.

Thanks again

Beautiful house and pool in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a fortnight at Le Clapier and couldn't have asked for a more relaxing time in beautiful surroundings. The house combines its traditional roots with a large, modern open-plan living and kitchen area - huge windows bring in plenty of light and show off the far-reaching views towards Lauzerte and the east (Miramont de Quercy is perched high above the surrounding countryside). The bedrooms are all large with comfortable firm beds; a travel cot (and highchair) was provided for our youngest. Five of us shared the house (two adults and three children) with bags of room to spare - easily enough for the full complement of eight. The two bathrooms (one en suite) both have large walk-in showers with monsoon heads and plenty of hot water. Outside, a large decking area caught the morning rays and provided a great space to relax in the afternoons (despite reaching around 34 degrees, a gentle breeze meant that the heat never became oppressive). The pool is a real feature of the house – large, heated, and a child-magnet. The kitchen had every appliance, utensil and piece of cutlery you could need, and the TV (UK stations) kept the kids occupied when a break from the sun was needed. Plentiful WiFi flowed throughout – mostly consumed by children sunk into the massive orange beanbag. The region has plenty of attractive towns within driving distance, and we never seemed to be far from a market or event (the evening food market at Lauzerte and day market at Moncuq were highlights). All the local towns seemed to have large squares, great for a coffee or ice cream, or just letting the kids run-off their cheese and ham crepes (Pujols is definitely worth a visit). Bonaguil castle gives a real sense of the Bastide history of the region and its historically precarious position between the French strongholds of Toulouse and the English fortresses of the Dordogne (where we spent a great day canoeing from La Roque Gageac, and then escaped to the relative tranquillity of the Midi Pyrenees). The owner, Jo, was very responsive to our questions pre-visit, and Rosetta and Steve were on-hand to provide help and information during the stay. Given Le Clapier’s proximity to the village restaurant we had some concerns that we would pick-up some of its noise. However, this was totally unfounded since the two are effectively “back-to-back” and, in fact, having such a chilled restaurant serving great food (and wine) within walking distance was a godsend.

Beautiful villa, fabulous pool!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in Le Clapier. The villa is big, beautiful and cool (the weather was HOT!) and extremely well equipped. The beds, in particular, are super-comfy and we really appreciated the extra touches, like piles of big lizard-patterned pool towels (in addition to soft white bath towels for everyone), gorgeous soaps in the bathrooms and a huge range of kitchen equipment (including sharp knives - hurrah! - and a coffee machine). The pool is a good size (long enough to swim 'proper' lengths, if that's your bag) and it was lovely to take a dip in soft, salt water, rather than the usual strong-smelling chlorine. Our teens loved the ping-pong table (and we loved that it was in the courtyard, out of earshot!), the massive bean bag, the great wifi connection and (face of shame) the BBC channels on the TV. The village restaurant (literally 15 paces away) is great - really friendly, nice food - and there a lots of other good places to eat in the towns nearby (once you've worked out which ones are closed on which days - every one is different!). Thoroughly recommend this villa - we honestly can't think of a single thing it's missing - and the truly beautiful French landscape all around it.

Owner's Response: Hello Helen and family, thank you very much for your lovely review - and we are delighted you all had a great holiday. Sounds like your teens enjoy the same things ours did ! And Tim and I designed the pool so we could attempt to work-off all those French lunches - well, it was a good goal anyway. Please come back and stay another year if you fancy the area, we'd love to welcome you back.

We (a family of four) stayed at the villa for a week in July 2017. The rooms, facilities, equipment and décor are to a very high standard. A nice touch is the welcome pack of bread, cheese, wine etc. when you arrive and there is a helpful housekeeper who introduces herself, but leaves you to it unless you need her help. The pool is wonderful and the grounds are not overlooked and the quiet hill-top location affords peace and quiet and beautiful views across the countryside.

Ironically, one of the best restaurants that we went to is the one in the village itself where the food was good and the owners very friendly (we ate there twice). There are local shops and a supermarket within ten minutes’ drive and we made use of both the excellent oven and BBQ in the villa.

Away from the village the beautiful medieval hill-top town of Lauzerte is ten minutes away and the main town of Cahors with its bridge, market, restaurants and vineyards and Moissac with its fine Abbey are no more than an hour. This means that the villa is ideally placed for making day-, or half-day, excursions in different directions before returning ‘home’ for a family meal around the BBQ or in the restaurant.

There is a large TV with UK television channels, good wifi and high internet speed (if you are not satisfied with wonderful views, a nice swim or good food, that is).

The arrangements for booking the villa, getting there and leaving were very smooth. Another nice touch is the information pack describing the villa, the village and places to visit, eat etc.

We're really pleased you liked the area - and most importantly - found the house well equipped and comfortable. The view is what really sold us the house - it is as you say hill-top beautiful. Amazing property in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fantastic week last month in this property and have already booked a return visit next summer. The house is spacious and very well appointed, situated in a quiet hamlet on the top of a ridge - the views from the terrace and pool are fantastic. It is easy to access from the nearest airports with an extremely well-stocked supermarket only a short drive away. The house is finished to the highest standard with the best stocked kitchen we have ever rented. Towels are fluffy, beds are SO comfortable and everything is immaculate. The area is very authentic with medieval hill towns to explore, nearby markets to sample and great walks from the house itself (a comprehensive file gives all the information you will need). We just loved our stay and can't wait to be back there next year.

Five Star Family Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Having been to multiple self-catering houses across southern France over the 20 or so years, we thought we had a fair idea of what to expect. This blew all the others out of the water! The pictures provided here do not do it justice. A converted barn, it has been beautifully restored and is kept in immaculate condition. Perfectly equipped for any family, come rain or shine, we felt at home on arrival. On cloudier days there was more than enough room for us all to be comfortable inside when finished sightseeing. Brand new kitchen appliances and utensils made cooking a pleasure, whether inside or on the barbecue provided. Stunning vista from the decked outside eating area, looking out across the local bastide towns provides a great backdrop - with sun at breakfast and evening shade perfect for aperitifs. The garden is beautiful, with aromatic French lavender really setting it off. But the pool was the star, with its salt water and gentle warmth giving it a luxurious, bath–like feel. Its generous proportions meant there were 5 of us comfortably bobbing about in it at all honesty, that was where we spent most of our time! It's not an exaggeration to say that this house made our holiday - we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone travelling to the region, as it truly takes the stress out of self-catering.

Beautiful house in outstanding scenery

  • 5 of 5

The mixture of modern and old is very well done. There is everything you need in the house, including BBQ lighters! We had small grandchildren with us (4 and 2) but they had no problems with the stairs. It was like staying in a hotel with plush towels and soaps ready for us. The pool was warm and large enough although it screams out for an infinity pool with that view.

We were looking for family relaxation so didn't do the walks and only ventured as far as Cahors for our visits which was worth a visit for spectacular Native American style landscape. The kids loved the swimming lakes, safe and clean. One lake had an enormous inflatable park for older kids and adults the other had jet ski led tubing and walking on water! Local auberge was very relaxing and served great food. Well worth a stay.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your very positive review - sounds like you had a good holiday. The infinity pool debate was vigorous when we were at the planning stage but technical rigour won the day. Glad you enjoyed its size, and it was big enough for all of you - come again, you'd be most welcome.
