About the property

Luxurious thatched holiday cottage in ancient Dartmoor village. Perfect for romantic breaks and honeymoons.

With a cosy log fire, sumptuous bed, dreamy views and a huge copper bath for two, this thatched cottage in an idyllic, peaceful village in the wooded hills of Dartmoor National Park is the perfect romantic getaway.

Every luxury is provided, including soft Egyptian cotton bed linen, fluffy towels, scented candles, glossy magazines and a state-of-the-art Sonos music system, which allows guests to play any music they like. You'll also find logs for the inglenook fire, marshmallows for toasting, board games, books and an extensive film library for cosy evenings in.

For forays into Devon's great outdoors, we provide an all-sizes collection of welly boots, his and hers' mountain bikes, and bodyboards for trips to our beautiful Devon beaches.

To add the luxury, cottage guests have unlimited use of the spa, Jacuzzi, sauna, pool, golf, gym and tennis facilities of five-star Bovey Castle Hotel nearby, and you'll get 10% off anything you purchase.

Moorland View has received great acclaim in the press, with luxury travel magazine Conde Naste Traveller rating it one of the UK’s best holiday homes, and Bella magazine calling it ‘the ultimate love nest’. It consistently receives five-star reviews from its guests on TripAdvisor.

Moorland View Cottage is in the 13th century thatched village of North Bovey in the lushly wooded hills of Dartmoor. The village is quintessentially English, with a wonderful pub, which serves delicious Devon food and real ales, an oak-shaded village green and a medieval church. The only sounds are distant church bells, birdsong and the occasional clip-clopping of horses' hooves.

Dartmoor is one of the UK's largest remaining wildernesses and there are dozens of romantic woodland and moorland walks on the cottage's doorstep. For beach lovers, the sandy coves of South Devon aren't far. For gourmets, Gidleigh Park, which has two Michelin stars, is close by.

If you're celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary or birthday, the owners can organise plenty of luxurious extras, including a private chef, home cooked food ready to put in the oven, romantic honeymoon packages, farmshop food deliveries and luxury West Country hampers.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We booked Moorland View Cottage for our mini-moon and are already planning to return! The cottage is absolutely beautiful, every detail thought out and presented to a very high standard. Most communication with Suzy was by email and she was very prompt which was great. When we arrived at the cottage the heating was on and the lights were on dim which was so cosy and inviting. There was also a bottle of wine some olives and a card on the dining table. Such a lovely personal touch.

We cannot fault a thing. The slipper bath and log fire are amazing! The welcome pack is a great help and the guest passes for Bovey Castle are a great bonus.

The local area is really quiet and so beautiful. A car is definitely needed to get around although the narrow country lanes are a challenge. Moorland View is a luxury cottage with a home from home personal feel.

My husband and I spent the first week of married life together at Moorland View and we could'nt have asked for a more perfect place. The cottage is a beautiful 'chocolate box' both inside and out. From the minute we arrived and opened the front door everything was perfect from the bottle of wine and delicious olives, fresh bread and scones waiting for us, the beauthiful furnishings throughout the cottage, the fabulous 'tub' for two, sonos music system, luxurious smellies, fluffy robes and slippers, oh and the wellington boots too!. The cottage garden was beautiful both in the rain as we looked out from the window seat and also in the sun as we laid on the loungers listening to the birds tweet and the sound of the local church bells. If you are looking for a romantic luxury retreat in peace, quiet and tranquil surroundings then Moorland View cannot be beaten.

Myself and my boyfriend have just had a fabulous week at Moorland View. Cannot fault it, we absolutely loved the cottage, the beautiful decor, furniture and fittings and the wonderful garden. The place was spotless when we checked in and Suzy was always contactable by e-mail before our stay to answer any questions we had. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage or to stay again myself in the future. The only bad point for us was having to leave at the end of the stay! Suzy also provided a great guide of things to do, the things we did included the following: Ring O Bells is a nice pub a one minute walk away, the drive to Widdecombe is lovely through the moors as is the pub there the Rugglestone Arms. We used the facilities at Bovey Castle and we also dined At Gidleigh Park, would recommend all of those things. So nice hearing a horse clip clop past in the morning and also hear the squirrels who come down in the mornings, open the tin of bird nuts and help themselves. Lovely peaceful place and we got lucky with the weather too. Thanks for a great stay Suzy.
