About Mrs Maggie Farmer

We live in Bournemouth, but my husband loves walking in Swaledale. So when our son took a place at Sheffield University, we took the opportunity to buy East Calvert House - and we love it!

Mrs Maggie Farmer purchased this house in 2012

Why Mrs Maggie Farmer chose Muker

We love the fact you can walk for miles in many directions from the cottage door, amid spectacular scenery. The Farmer's Arms at Muker is just a half hour walk away through the fields and the newly reopened King's Head at Gunnerside is a couple of miles.

What makes this house unique

The cottage is really comfortable for us and for guests, with lovely views over Swaledale.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"Had a fabulous week walking from the front door. East Calvert House is such a gently renovated place to stay. The roaring fire was very welcome after each day's hard walking. Will definitely be back!" Sharon, Kathy, Tazzle and Hebe, Northants.

"We have had a lovely week in this very cosy cottage. Weather has been variable! The open fire has been wonderful. We would recommend the King's Head in Gunnerside, we had two very good meals there. Reeth (nearest place for supplies) has 2 shops, newsagents and a bakery. Many thanks!" Beverley and Paul, Woodbridge.

"Had a magical week at the cottage. Mostly sunshine on the walks. Local people so friendly. On a rainy day visited Hawes and the cheese factory. Lots of cheese to try! We all loved the open fire, especially Mattie! Thank-you, the walking books most helpful. Did all the local ones." Valerie and Peter.

Lovely cottage with stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

Great for a getaway from it all type break. Amazing walks, right from the door. Cottage really clean and beautiful, we all loved it, including our two labradors. Plan ahead for food, or take your own though as nearest shops are a bit of a trip! Good curry house in Leyburn and good fish and chips from Hawes but about 20 minute drive from cottage. Great walking holiday despite changeable weather, lots to do in surrounding area. Richmond, Aysgarth, Wensleydale creamery, all worth a visit. Most pubs very dog friendly. Can't wait to go back but will do a food shop before we go or get Tesco to deliver when we get there. In love with the Dales now, missing it already now we are back home!

Perfect property to enjoy the Yorkshire Dales

  • 5 of 5

The property is in a super location. The views are beautiful with some lovely walking right on the doorstep. The accommodation was clean and comfortable for the six adults, one baby and two dogs in our family group. It was very well equipped. The owner and manager provided a very efficient, friendly service and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at East Calvert Cottage. We would definitely recommend the cottage to friends and family and would love to return for another holiday to enjoy the peace and tranquility that East Calvert Cottage provided. ECC is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy some of the superb walking that the Yorkshire Dales provide.
