Chwarel Goch Bach, (Red Quarry, in English) originally a farmhouse was built over 100yrs ago and is a comfortable and well equipped cottage, and the end wing of owner's house. It comprises a bedroom via a narrow open staircase from the cosy lounge, spacious kitchen/dining room, large porch and shower room. About Joan and Dennis Glass

The location of our house is just outstanding and we, Joan and Dennis, welcome visitors to share the amazing situation and views.

Joan and Dennis Glass purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Joan and Dennis Glass chose Wales

Work brought us to the area over 50yrs ago and from our previous house on the opposite side of the valley we kept looking towards Fachwen with envy because, being south facing, was in full sun whenever it shone! Consquently, when the opportunity arose we moved across and valley and just love every minute of living here.

The cottage end is about 150yrs old and we have been successfully renting it to holiday makers for over 20yrs.

The great outdoors attracted us to Snowdonia and the location of the house is ideal for all types of outdoor activities, including walks straight from the door, and of course Snowdon, the Great Little Trains of Wales, Castles, beaches, and the Isle of Anglesey 30mins drive away. It is also a perfect retreat for getting away from it all and just chilling out.

What makes this cottage unique

Outside, we have off road parking, stunning views and an enclosed gravel area with decking and another seating area to catch the best of the sun, and after a day out whether touring or being energetic, it's the perfect place to sit and read or enjoy the odd glass of wine or two.

A lovely cottage in a great position

  • 5 of 5

The owners Joan and Dennis went out of their way to make sure we had a good week, despite some very challenging weather ! This was our sixth visit to this property, which is ideal for two people, and it's become a favourite place of ours over the years. It's in a lovely position with good views down towards Llanberis and there's a lovely walk to the town through a wooded country park. The cottage is very cosy and well equipped and we were welcomed with home - made Bara Brith. This is right in the heart of great walking country with big peaks such as Snowdon nearby but there are also plenty of other more gentle walks. It's also easy to get to attractions and other towns by car. Joan can advise on good teashops if the weather isn't so good, we went to several really nice ones. Recommended.

all you needed for your break

  • 5 of 5

Warm welcome upon arrival and Welsh cakes in the kitchen :)

It was short, 2 night stay, but so worth it - views, all the trails so close (Snowdon 20mins away by car) - brilliant.

Property itself is all clean, with everything you need for two. It might get cold (if you are like us), but there's electric fireplace or extra blankets in case you need them - they will do the job - in the end, we stayed in middle of the winter...tv, a lot of books, dvd's, cd's, as well as good wifi, will keep you busy in case you stuck because of the weather.

Would definitely recommend.

Thank you Joan and Dennis :)

The perfect cosy retreat. A great base, perfectly located, to explore the area

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful friendly helpful hosts from the word go. The freshly made Welsh cakes left for us on arrival were a wonderful touch and they were delicious. The cottage had absolutely everything we needed. Attention to detail was outstanding and levels of cleanliness superb. There were maps/leaflets/brochures/information a plenty, about the cottage and about the area. We even made use of the DVD collection on a rainy afternoon! The views from the property including the bedroom are wonderful! We will definitely be staying here again when we return to the area and would highly recommend it
