Two bedroomed high specification apartment with a large amount of floor space within a complex of five apartments,set within beautiful upper and courtyard gardens. The other four apartments are single bedroomed and can be seen at property reference P9748.
There is a swimming pool and a large barbecue of typical Portuguese design in the upper garden.
The apartments are fully centrally heated and available for all year round use. Three of the apartments have typical Portuguese log burners.
Cumieira is a typical working village in a rural setting of about 200 people. In the village itself you will find a 16th century Mother Church, a junior and infant school, a day centre, a cemetery, a cultural centre, and a bar that knocks up a three course lunch for €7.00
We are a comfortable 50 minutes drive from some of the best beaches on the West coast. Our location is rural but certainly not isolated and we are only a 5 minute drive from Avelar, for supermarkets, hot food takeaways, a hospital, post office, restaurants, pharmacy, hairdressers, beauty saloons and essentially all things associated with everyday living. The historic town of Penela is a 15 minute drive, as is Ansiao.
We are within 30 minutes drive from major railway stations at Coimbra B and Pombal….Train or road journeys to either Porto or Lisbon are achievable within two hours, The historic cities of Tomar, Fatima and Coimbra are more like 30 minutes.
There are exciting water theme parks in both Pombal and Castenheira de Pera, both can be reached within a 30 minute car journey.
The area is blessed with many rivers and river beaches (Praia Fluvials) and more information on these is available within the apartments.
Relatively inexpensive family orientated restaurants, exist in abundance in this part of Portugal and can make regular dining out an enjoyable part of your stay with us.Again there is plenty of information about these in the apartments and we are only to happy to advise and assist with the language, booking of taxi's etc.
There is no problem with availability of safe parking for the apartments. Also although we always advise guests to be careful with their possessions during their stay,the apartments exist within a gated and secure environment.
If you are looking for a group or large family holiday, our apartments are perfect for this as they give you both the opportunity to be together and to be independent.
We are happy to negotiate on rates when three or more apartments are booked for your group/family for the same weeks.

Having had an affinity with Portugal for several decades, buying a property and living there, was very definitely at the top of our wish list.
The idea of actually building a business there really evolved rather than forming part of some master plan.
As I had worked as a Building contractor for many years specialising in the renovation, extension and refurbishment of houses and gardens, I was able to put these acquired skills and knowledge to good use when I bought the disused and run down former working farmhouse, that is now Apartamentos e jardims de Florenca.
Of course working in a new country without knowledge of the language,working practices, different materials, planning and local council approvals etc, was to prove challenging, but nevertheless they were challenges to be overcome.
All the renovation and remodelling works carried out on the property was by local tradesmen, who I have to say were a pleasure to work with.
Staying with us here in Cumieira provides you with the opportunity to enjoy our apartments and gardens in comfort, but to also absorb the easy going nature of typical Portuguese rural village life.
When we started to look for a property of our own in this part of Portugal, the one that we bought was the very first one that we downloaded from the internet and although we looked at a few more, it was very much a question of love at first site.
We loved the feeling of space, the beautiful views and the simplistic way of live in this small village of 200 or so. Somehow we instantly knew that we had to buy this run down ramble-shack of a Farmhouse, as it offered so much potential and take up the challenge of restoring it into something that could also be shared with others.
This is a wonderfully comfortable place to stay.
We loved how tastefully decorated everything is and we particularly loved the sunny garden.
We used the property as a base for exploring the area, visiting Coimbra, Leiria,Oporto, the ruins at Conimbriga and the coast at Sao Pedro de Moel.
The drive through the endless pine forest west of Leiria was an amazing surprise.We also spent the day in Lisbon: a two hour drive, but well worth it.
The best restaurant that we found is 'O terrier do Lagar,in Cabeca Redondo (a five minute drive from the apartment)which is very reasonably priced but serves delicious simply prepared meat and fish with excellent wine.
Our host Shirley was extremely kind and attentive.

Booking confirmation is by exchange of emails and receipt of a 30% deposit within 7 days.We recommend that if you do not have access to a euro account you use a company called Transferwise who give first class exchange rates and have low fees.Balances need to be paid in full within 14 days of travelling.Its worth noting that our rates are in euros.
In an ideal world we would prefer all arrivals and departures to take place on a Saturday… However, we realise the need to be as flexible as possible to meet guests flight dates.
Departure times are dependent on next guest arrival times.
