Fig Cottage is set in the beautiful grounds of a secluded 17th Century manor farmhouse hidden away at the end of its own lane and at the centre of 20 acres of farmland. Completely hidden from the road, the property is set in a small valley with a stream winding through the gardens, and consists of a group of beautiful old stone farm buildings around one of the prettiest houses in the area. The stunning North Devon coast and the Southwest Coast Path are a mile's walk away through fields and lanes and we are ideally placed for exploring North Devon and North Cornwall - Clovelly, Bude, Exmoor and the beaches of Croyde and Woolacombe are within easy reach, while the glorious beach at Westward Ho!, the pretty fishing village of Appledore and the historic port town of Bideford are on our doorstep. First floor loft apartment of old coach house building

Pretty one bedroom loft apartment on first floor of old coach house. Access by steep external stone steps. Stable door to sunny open plan kitchen and living room overlooking its own pretty lawned garden leading down to the stream and fields beyond. Leading off the living room is the bedroom and bathroom.

Visitors to Fig Cottage have exclusive use of their own sheltered, sunny garden with lawns, a cobbled area which was once part of the old coach buildings, and flower beds. Two steps lead down to a lower area adjoining the stream. A table and chairs are provided, as well as a parasol for shade in (hopefully!) sunny weather and a barbecue. In the sheltered corner of the garden below the bedroom window is the ancient and very productive fig tree which gives the cottage its name.

Please note, access to the apartment is by steep stone external steps.

Kate greeted us on arrival and showed us our lovely accommodation. The apartment was idyllic; set in lovely gardens, in a quiet, peaceful spot at the end of a lane. The apartment was as described - it is tastefully decorated, with a comfortable bed and everything you need for a pleasant stay making it feel like home immediately. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing break with access nearby to beaches and gorgeous Devonshire countryside. We had a great stay and would definitely come back if in the area. We ate dinner at a local pub which was great too - The Pig on the Hill.

Coast/Beach:

One mile to the North Devon coast and the Southwest Coast Path, and 2.5 miles to the sandy beach of Westward Ho!

Travel:

By car, easy access from the A39. Nearest station is 11 miles away at Barnstaple, which links to Exeter on the scenic Tarka Line.

Distances:

The historic port town of Bideford is 2 miles away, and the larger town of Barnstaple approximately 10 miles away.

Appledore is about 3 miles away and Westward Ho! 2 miles away, or about 5 minutes' drive.

Further Details:

There is a small shop with post office in the village of Abbotsham. The Thatched Inn is a popular, friendly pub. Also within walking distance is The Pig On The Hill, another popular pub restaurant.

Westward Ho! has a post office, chemist's, butcher's and two small supermarkets as well as a variety of restaurants and cafes.

Banks, building societies and supermarkets can all be found in Bideford.

Booking Notes:
A 30% deposit is required to book the cottages. The remainder to be paid 4 weeks before arrival. If your start date is in 4 weeks or less then full payment will be needed. Payment can be by bank transfer or cheque.

Changeover Day:
Normal changeover day is a Saturday. Arrival from 3pm. Departure 10am. During quieter periods we will consider shorter lets (minimum 3 days) and alternative changeover days.

Notes on prices:
Daily rates for stays of less than a week are available on request.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Dogs are welcome (one per property and not on the furniture please!) at an extra cost of £20 per week. We have one dog of our own and a couple of free range chickens. There is plenty of space to exercise a dog but it must be kept under control - we are surrounded by our own fields but please be aware that there are sheep on our land.
