Wonderful week spent at this lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

The photos in the property description accurately portray this lovely cottage, no photoshopping here. The cottage has been tastefully renovated by the hosts and provides clean and comfortable living.

Speaking of the hosts, Corinne and Damian live in the house next door and are available and very accommodating if you need help but otherwise leave you to enjoy your holiday in peace. Corinne sends out a daily email letting you know what is happening around Bergerac itself and popular places in the region to visit. Damian has a wine fridge in the lounge room with bottles from some of the local wineries at very reasonable prices, we made use of this on more than one occasion!

There are several good supermarkets nearby for your grocery needs and Corinne kindly supplies some fresh bread, milk, juice and fruit to get you started.

It is a hard decision each day choosing whether to spend time relaxing around the pool and making use of the table tennis table and badminton net or heading out to explore the area.

If you are thinking about making a booking for this property do not hesitate, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely house, perfect location!

Although it wasn't that warm for a dive in the pool we all had a very good time in the garden!

Owners are super nice and the house was perfectly clean! Thank you for the nice bottle of wine!!

Lovely

  • 5 of 5

We made a last-minute decision to book this cottage and I don't think we could have found a better place. The owners Corinne and Damien were very friendly and helpful, and both spoke English. The cottage is beautifully decorated, well furnished and was very comfortable - it was a pleasure to stay there. Due to the time of year, we were unable to make full benefit of the lovely outdoor space, but can imagine that in the summer, it would be fabulous by the pool and on the decking overlooking the river. The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the Dordogne area, and the old centre of Bergerac can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes. (There is a short stretch along the main road but it isn't too bad).

We would certainly go back again when we are next in the area.

Beautiful, Outstanding Along The River-The Gite!!

  • 5 of 5

We have returned from a two week vacation at Along the River - The Gite. We saw the property details and based on the photos and description we booked and were definitely not disappointed.

The Gite has been sympathetically and lovingly restored by Corinne and Damien to provide boutique chic accommodation of the highest standard. The open plan kitchen, dining and siting area is light, airy and comfortable. There were four adults and one teenager in our party and the Gite provided plenty of room for all of us with en-suite/attached facilities to all the bedrooms. We frequently used the Gite to prepare long relaxing lunches and evening meals and the kitchen provided all the utensils and gadgets you would ever need, and more!!

To the front, the Gite is approached from the road via a long drive. The grounds to the side and rear of the property are extensive and include a trampoline, table tennis table, badminton net and all associated equipment.

When you leave the living area at the rear of the property, through the patio doors, there is an area of wooden decking protected by a large awning under which sits a farmhouse style table and chairs easily large enough to seat ten people. It was wonderful in the evening with the candles burning and pool light shimmering to sit in the cooling air with a glass of wine, (or two!!) and discuss our plans for the following day.

The decked pool/sunbathing area is behind the covered dining area and the pool is kept clean and at a constant 30 degrees. Our teenage son made a pact to use the pool every day of our holiday which he easily achieved, along with most of our party.

Corinne and Damien are the ultimate hosts who are extremely helpful without being obtrusive. Every evening we received a text message from Corinne which included information on festivals and events happening in the area the following day and the expected weather conditions and temperatures. Our vacation happened to coincide with our 18th wedding anniversary and Corinne very kindly booked a table for us at 'Villa Letitia' restaurant in Bergerac old town, where we were presented with a special anniversary desert with candles, all arranged by Corinne. Even the taxis were organised for us!!!

The Dordogne River runs its meandering course at the end of the garden and a covered deck area provides a calm oasis to sit and relax with stunning views.

Along the River - The Gite is a beautiful place to stay.

Location

From the Owner

We have just finished renovating this charming and cosy cottage. So everything is new: the beds and the electronic appliances. But we also decided to add antique furniture so that it would give a unique atmosphere to the house. We met a wonderful carpenter who built a covered wooden terrace for you to enjoy an amazing view of the Dordogne river.
