A well appointed, comfortable, lovely family home that provides a great base for exploring the area. The owners are extremely friendly and hospitable and their local knowledge, hints and tips greatly enhanced our holiday. We had a wonderful fortnight in the house and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Perfect!

My husband and I have just spent a wonderful week in this house and would recommend it to anyone visiting this area.

Puisserguier is a small but busy village with all the necessary amenities. It is a 30 minute drive from Beziers airport and well situated for touring this beautiful area.

The house itself has been carefully restored and provides spacious and extremely comfortable accommodation with attractive furnishings and lots of outdoor space. The courtyard garden, both day and night, was the perfect spot to relax !

The booking process was very straightforward with excellent communication between ourselves and Niamh to ensure that all was well !

You will have a delightful holiday, as we did, if you book this property !

Languedoc is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt places, full of wonderful food and wine. There is a huge range of sporting amenities, and it is a historically and culturally rich area of great diversity and interest. Our house is a historic, charming and comfortable 'vigneron' cottage' that has been modernised but retains period detail. It has heating and air conditioning, is well appointed with a surprising amount of outdoor space.

The house is a former vigneron's cottage, in the middle of a colourful terrace, built at the height of the Languedoc wine boom of the late 19th and early 20th century. It has been restored sensitively in recent years with lots of space and light. Despite being modernised it has retained its character, charm and period detail. It has heating for chilly evenings and air conditioning for hot summer days. In the garden is a wonderful old fig tree that dates back to when the house was built. The outdoor terrace which leads from the living room was fashioned out of what was a hay barn and looks over the garden. There is a lovely court yard garden, perfect for an evening aperitif or balmy outdoor dinner, or even a late breakfast!

The house is extremely comfortable and well appointed with all mod cons, including television (with Apple TV), music system, and plenty of books if you leave your novel on the airplane!

The village is lively and has all amenities, a bar restaurant, supermarket, pharmacy and other shops. The history of the village goes back to the Iron age and finds from that period can be seen in the medieval chateau that dominates the old part of the village.

Only five kilometres away is the World Heritage Site, Canal du Midi, with its boats, locks, walkways, cycle paths and restaurants.

Capestang is the nearest canal-side village, with its wonderful old Cathedral, twice weekly market and lively, buzzy square, with bars and restaurants. We would recommend the Restaurant Galiniere. Nearby is Poilhes (pronounced Poy), another canal-side village with several excellent restaurants and a wonderful serene atmosphere.

Puisserguier is ideally situated between the sea and the mountains. When the weather is hot it is lovely to go towards the mountains, about half an hour away, to lovely old villages that look as if they were carved out of the mountain rock and look down on fast rivers where you can swim or canoe.

Valras Plage, 25 km. Lively Mediterranean family seaside resort, huge beach, many restaurants (best one is Hotel MiraMar), lots of cheap and cheerful restaurants. Fantastic fish shop on the outskirts of the town.

Narbonne plage, 35 km

Travel:

The house is 40 minutes from Beziers airport, and just over an hour from Carcassonne, Montpellier, one of France's most exciting cities, and Perpignan airports. It is approximately two hours from Toulouse, Marseille, Nîmes and Girona, and three hours from Barcelona.

Distances:

Beziérs - with a flight of 7 canal locks and aqueduct over the river Orb; Agde, the “black pearl” of the Mediterranean; Roquebrun (great food in informal restaurant, Cave St Martin), nice picnic spot and river swimming, and Mediterranean Gardens; Minerve, spectacular Cathar village on the river Cesse, once capital of the Minervois; Olargues; St Jean de Minervois (does a fantastic sweet wine).

Wine

This is a major wine area, described by some wine writers as one of 'the most exciting wine regions in the world'. Talk to local wine makers who will be only too pleased give you a tasting and show you around their vineyards. Find a wine for you from among the hundreds made by small artisan winemakers all over the region. The culture and landscape reflects the viniculture of the region. The landscape changes from deep green in the summer to red and rust in the Autumn with bright red poppies between the vines in the spring.

We fell in love with this particular house because it reflects the viniculture of the region and is so characteristic of Languedoc wine villages. Restoring and doing it up over the years has been a labour of love and a great project. We look forward to sharing it with you.
