Ocean Side. Pretty traditional cottage with lovely view, parking + large garden.

Updated: 26-Nov-2016
Cottage in Trevillet, Nr Tintagel, Cornwall, England - Tranquil location on private road in the hamlet of Trevillet, short drive to many beautiful beaches.

Ocean Side is a lovely, recently renovated, semi-detached cottage tucked away in the tranquil hamlet of Trevillet, surrounded by fields and with stunning sea views. Outside there is ample parking for 3 cars and a large, enclosed garden with patio that provides plenty of room for al-fresco eating; garden furniture, parasols, outdoor games and bbq are all provided. The sea and countryside views are outstanding.

Inside, the cottage is full of character, its original features combining well with a modern kitchen, bathroom and en-suite. It sleeps 6-8 people in 3 bedrooms with the option of a sofabed in the lounge; a cot and high chair are also available.

A new heating system means the cottage is always cosy, with the option of variable temperatures in different rooms. There is also a warming woodburner in the kitchen-dining room; this room is very well-equipped for gatherings large and small. The lounge has french doors opening onto the patio area with it's stunning views, a beamed ceiling, TV/dvd and CD/radio.

There is a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room and toilet on the ground floor, which is ideal for anyone who finds stairs to be a difficulty. The other two bedrooms, a double and a twin, are on the first floor along with the family bathroom; both bedrooms have far-reaching sea and countryside views.

Mobile phone signal is good and internet access is provided.

The lovely little hamlet of Trevillet is situated between Tintagel and Boscastle, both of which have a host of attractions, restaurants, pubs and shops. It is a short drive from the magical beaches of Bossiney Bay and Trebarwith Strand, as well as the wildness of Bodmin Moor. Crackington Haven, Port Isaac, Polzeath and Rock are all quickly accessible by car from Ocean Side.

About the Owner

Hello, we are Libby and Dave Ackroyd and we, along with Libby's children, Ayla and Jay, and Dave's wife, Doro are the owners of Ocean Side.

I am Libby, and will be your main contact regarding the cottage, my children and I have lived in the lovely county of Cornwall for 11 years now and absolutely love it! For practical purposes we live in Camelford where I work at the local Primary School, but we are at Ocean Side at every opportunity.

Dave, who runs his own media/consulting company, and Doro live partly in Berkshire and partly in Poland, but come down to Ocean Side whenever they can. It is definitely a family home!

We are all sociable, fun-loving people who enjoy exploring, beach-walking, relaxing with friends old & new, and generally making the most out of life in this idyllic area.

We had been looking at the pictures for this cottage and prayed that they would be accurate. Our prayers were answered. On our arrival the weather was grotty but that didn't detract from the location and views available from Oceanside. We were greeted by Libby who obviously takes great pride in this cottage. The welcome treat of scones, jam, cream and juice was a most appreciated surprise.

The cottage is just perfect for a week away. Whilst our week wasn't a quiet one with all the places visited, the location of Oceanside helped you feel relaxed and able to unwind. This is literally a home from home. Everything you probably forgot is available for use at the cottage and despite its remoteness, Tintagel is just a 10 minute drive away with suitable shops to replenish.

The availability of garden games kept the kids entertained...that and the 2 local cats that were adopted and renamed several times over the week.

All in all I would definitely recommend this location to anyone wanting a home from home to be able to explore the local area from, whilst being able to relax and unwind.

Thank you Libby and family for opening up your home. I loved all the nautical touches and I could never get bored of that view.

Fantastic Cottage In Superb Location!

  • 5 of 5

When we first arrived at Ocean Side, we were blown away with the scenery in the area and the location it was set it in. The view of the sea from the cottage itself was outstanding. Inside the cottage, it instantly felt welcoming and warm. Very homely. Although the cottage is quite an old building, the interior is very modernised and it is clear to see that a lot of hard work has gone into making it an up-to-date and very much loved home.

Fine attention to detail makes this the holiday home you would want to visit as often as possible.

My kids loved their first visit to Cornwall, and have already asked repeatedly to return as soon as possible. The spacious and enclosed garden made it very easy as a parent to feel that the kids were safe playing in the garden with the outdoor toys. When we arrived, a travel cot, stair-gate and highchair were all available to use which was very handy.

A quick 3 minute drive will take you into Tintagel high street with various different little shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. There is also a Londis and Spar for everyday shopping. A 10 minute drive north will take you into the very quiet and subtle Boscastle which is a great place to visit, especially if you have a knack for using a camera! Ideal for a few snapshots. Beautiful place.

Overall, our stay was very pleasing. A homely cottage. A stunning view. Super quiet location to take all the stresses away. Great locations to visit along with very efficient communication with the owners.

Would do this holiday again in a heartbeat.

We were so happy as we approached the cottage. It was set in a stunning location. When we went inside we absolutely loved it. So comfortable so homely and so welcoming. Our 3 children and their partners had so much to do ...tombstoning surfing rock climbing. ..we walked to so many beautiful villages. We loved it so much and the children asked if we could book again this year....we are awaiting confirmation...fingers crossed! Thoroughly recommend this cottage.

Tranquility, peace and beautiful views to the sea.

An old Cornish property turned tastefully into a little haven of peace. A lot of love, thought and personal touches gone into the transformation. Views are magnificent and the garden a delight getting all afternoon sun. The cottage has everything you could wish for.

Clean, fully equipped, perfect

  • 5 of 5

Ocean side is situated in the hills overlooking Tintagel North Cornwall with views out to the sea and Lundy Island just visible around the hills opposite the sheltered garden, where we succumbed to a Cornish cream tea on the patio, (we did walk across the fields into Tintagel to buy it.)

The Cottage with its three large bedrooms one with its own en-suite can easily sleep six in either double or twin rooms and a cot is available for those young ones.

The Kitchen/dining room can easily cope with a house full and is equipped with washing machine, dish washer, microwave, hob and oven and the fridge/freezer can cope with a big shop, most supermarkets will deliver.

You can sit and relax, the loudest noise being the bird song; attack the costal path; visit the picturesque fishing villages or strike off to some of the larger attractions such as the lost gardens of Heligan and the Eden project and its zip wire.

We did not want to return the keys after our week there. –Awesome-

Fantastic - home from home!

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful, with stunning views of the ocean. Even when the weather was particularly unkind to us it did not detract from the view that we had from the living room and our bedroom. Everything we needed was provided, with no exceptions. The house was spotless and extremely comfortable. There are walking options from the front door, or if you drive for 5 minutes then you have so much to choose from to do - whether it's walking on the beach or visiting Tintagel Castle. The location is handy for access to many tourist attractions in Cornwall.

The customer service that we received was excellent, with information supplied in advance for how to find the house and where the keys would be located for our ease. There are three bedrooms, which very comfortably sleep up to 6 people, so we had a choice of where to sleep! We also had a toddler so needed the use of a cot bed as well - all provided. There is a washing machine, which made life easier as we were able to go home with a bag of clean clothes, which isn't the norm!

All in all a wonderful few days away, in a beautiful location with stunning views. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

Thank you Libby and Dave for creating a fantastic place to stay!

From the Owner

Having been brought up on boats since we were babies, Dave and I are naturally drawn to the sea and have always wanted to own a house with a sea-view. When we came to invest an inheritance from our ocean-going parents, we saw Ocean Side and fell in love! We all love beach-life (my children virtually grew up on Trebarwith Strand!) and Cornwall has a truly stunning coastline with many glorious beaches; we all agree that Bossiney Bay, the nearest beach, is out of this world! The moorland walks are absolutely stunning too. There is always something to do or see here whatever the season, watching the waves pound the beaches and crash on the rocks on a stormy day is enthralling and you can always retire to a warm pub or head back to the cosy cottage with its woodburner after your bracing walk!

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

Stunning Bossiney Beach and the coast path in both directions can be reached after a 30 min walk or a 2 min drive and 15 min walk. It should be noted that this beach is tidal and has no facilities. The attractive, popular, tidal beach at Trebarwith Strand is less than 10 mins drive away; it has a pub, shops and toilets. It is a slightly further drive to the lovely beaches at Crackington Haven, Widemouth Bay, Polzeath and Daymer Bay, all of which are worth a visit.

The nearest airport is at Newquay - 26 miles away.

Bodmin Parkway train station is 19 miles away.

The use of a car is highly recommended.

Trevillet is a 5 min drive from Tintagel and 10 mins from Boscastle and the market town of Camelford, all of which have shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions.

The slightly bigger town of Wadebridge, which has a cinema and large supermarkets (which can deliver), as well as cycle hire for the Camel Trail, is about a 15 min drive.

Cornwall's beautiful gardens, such as Heligan and Trebah, as well as the world famous Eden Project are all accessible as day trips from Ocean Side.

Further Details:

The ancient village of Tintagel is just a 5 minute drive from the property, here you will find King Arthur's island with the Castle, which is steeped in myth and legend. Tintagel has a couple of small supermarkets with PO, cafes, pubs, a butchers, hardware shop and lots of gift shops, as well as the 14th Century National Trust Old Post Office and King Arthurs great Halls. The mystical St Nectan’s Glen and absolutely stunning walk along Rocky Valley at Bossiney are both within walking distance, you will find the coastline here is breathtaking and the local beach at Bossiney Bay is gorgeous;although it does involve a reasonable walk to get to it. There are plenty of easily accessible beaches nearby for families, such as Crackington Haven and Daymer Bay and excellent surfing at Trebarwith and Polzeath or Bude. Surfing lessons are available at Trebarwith Strand, Polzeath and Bude.

There is a leisure Centre and Golf course at nearby Camelford.

Plenty of horse riding opportunities can be found at licensed stables nearby, Camelford and Bodmin are just two examples.

If you enjoy cycling, bikes can be hired at both Padstow and Wadebridge. There is a lovely family ride along the Camel trail between these towns. Padstow is famous for it’s connections to celebrity chef Rick Stein, he owns one or two eateries here! You can go on a choice of boat trips from Padstow Harbour. If you head further down the coast to Watergate Bay you will find excellent surfing as well as Jamie Oliver’s famous Fifteen.

From the Owner

Ocean Side is in a quiet location, yet within a short distance of many places of interest, beaches, pretty little towns and moorland walks. You can walk from the cottage (check out Rocky Valley and the coast path!) or bring your bike and cycle to Bodmin Moor or head to Wadebridge and cycle along the Camel Trail to Padstow. Choose from any number of gorgeous beaches along the coast, which in the low season will be almost deserted. There are many nearby village pubs serving excellent food and local beers. We think that the cottage itself should have everything you need for your holiday; after all, it is our home from home! You can use it either as a base to explore the surrounding area, or use the large patio and garden to just sit back, relax and soak up the beautiful panoramic view.
