About the Owner

We have successfully managed holiday lets for 7 years in the UK and Italy and this is our latest venture in Languedoc Roussillon southern France.

We love the area and live a short walk away in the same village. As well as being the centre of our new venture it is also the village where we have chosen to live ourselves, such are its attractions.

A fantastic holiday home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at La Casa De La Vigne. The house was very clean, comfortable and well equipped and spacious too.

The owners were friendly and welcoming and lived nearby, so could contact them easily if necessary.

We enjoyed the wonderful views, paddling in the river on hot days and exploring the village. There are also many places to visit in close proximity, so a great place for a family holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you Anne for your kind words. We were delighted that the house, village & surrounding areas were ideal for you both & your 4 boys. You certainly made the most of your holiday in Saint Jean Pla De Corts. We both hope to welcome you all back very soon.

A delightful village house near the Med

  • 4 of 5

We were warmly greeted by Liz who showed us around the house and told us about the village. The house is in the lovely old part of the village with great views ... but is a little tricky to find (better instructions? ... but Liz is on hand ready to help).

The house is on 4 floors with lots of steps which would not be suitable for anyone with a disability - but is good for the fitness. It is a delightful house with a beautiful main bedroom with sitting area and terrace. There is a lovely 'top' terrace for eating outside.

It is very handy for local shops and, most important, the lovely villages on the Med coast. We did not find the mountain walking as enjoyable as the central Pyrenees (less grand, warmer climate) but the coastal walks are a delight (as are the local wines and the restaurants on the coast).

The house is decorated to make it comfortable and welcoming and Liz looks after it beautifully.

A most enjoyable stay with lots of sunshine and blue seas.

Wonderful views

  • 4 of 5

Overall, we had a lovely week in this charmingly old-fashioned house, very much enjoying the spectacular views from the balconies and its peace and quiet. The house layout works well for a family, but was a little tricky for our small group - couple + friend. Everything was very clean, the beds very comfortable and the towel supply generous. The fans were a great help in the heatwave, and the 2 showers both had good pressure with ample hot water as long as you’re not extravagant. The kitchen was very well-equipped, and the internet connection worked a treat. There is currently one restaurant open in the evenings (the excellent La Cova), but other dining options are only minutes’ drive away – the Hostalet in Vives serves ridiculously good and large Catalan meals if you’re a meat eater, plus being a delightful hamlet to visit. There is a church bell (common in French villages) which strikes every hour through the night, so earplugs are helpful! The property would benefit from an ‘Information folder’ on how the house works, and some local knowledge - most importantly, advice that swimming in the crystal-clear Tech River, 3mins walk away, is not recommended as it is polluted; we only found this out after having spent the day in it!

Owner's Response: We are sorry you thought the river was polluted. It is not. It is used by locals and visitors alike throughout the year. It is very clean and perfectly safe.

We stayed five nights here. This townhouse is in the old quarter of a peaceful village, with views to die for over the valley towards the mountains. The house was very well presented and immaculately clean. All the facilities we required/expected were there. We cooked ourselves on some evenings, enjoying the views whilst dining al fresco on the balcony/patio, watching the birds flying around in the valley. It also made a great base, as there was of course plenty to see and do in the area - we went to Ceret, to the nearby Plans d'Eau lakeside beach, to Arles-sur-Tech and to Argeles-sur-Mer. The tapas restaurant La Cova around the corner from the house was a nice spot to unwind and we got to know some of the lovely people there too. There was a great Samba band on our last evening there, which was a lot of fun. We met Liz and Bas, the owners, who were lovely - very pleasant and helpful. Liz had been very professional, courteous, prompt and organised throughout all our dealings and communications, in fact. We would certainly recommend and would stay again.

Fantastic stay at Casa de la Vigne

  • 5 of 5

We immensely enjoyed our stay at Casa de la Vigne. The house is great and has everything just like at home. Liz and Baz were very welcoming and gave us a good introduction to the house and area. We also really appreciated the welcome package, which is such a nice touch.

We particularly enjoyed the comfortable nights of sleep with relaxing days on the terraces and walking in the surrounds. The area is truly gorgeous with so many things to do. A bonus was that we didn't need a car at all to get there and around.

A very special relaxing home

  • 5 of 5

My Son and I have recently returned from having a most enjoyable holiday staying in this lovely property. The reason for the visit was to catch up with family and friends .

We were met by the owners Bas and Liz and we were immediately taken to the house and shown around.

The house had a distinct appeal, full of character. It was clean and very well equipped. The views from the balconies were stunning. We loved sitting out morning and evening soaking up the views. We did some trips out but everywhere was very busy but that's what you get for going mid August. We went to Collioure which I love, also Roses in Spain. One evening we did a trip to Argeles but that was extremely busy. The rest of the time we were visiting family and friends. I recommend the local restaurant Les Arbeilles, never disappoints and great value at 13.90 euros for a 3 course meal. I would recommend this property and area to anyone. Thank you to Bas and Liz for being so kind and helpful. I hope to return.

From the Owner

The area is perfect for mountain walks, lakes, hiking, biking, beach holidays and cultural visits. It is an ideal base for visiting northern Spain, Andorra and the beautiful Mediterranean coastline. The cuisine is a tremendous blend of traditional French and Catalan and so offers a great variety. The area is rich in local art and culture, with the Museum of Modern Art in Céret offering many works by Picasso, who sought refuge in the area from the troubles in Spain. The nearby Spanish town of Figueras boasts the Dali Museum as does his hometown of Cadaques, just along the coast from Argelès, our nearest beach resort. The area is easily reachable by road, rail, ferry or air.
