About the property

Vibrant Spanish vill. Riverside walks. Nr beaches. 2/3 min walk to bars,restaurants,shops,bank, bus serv. Lg rooftop solarium. Sml balcony.

Only 30 minutes from Alicante or Murcia airport. Nestling by the River Segura which meanders down to the sea at Guardamar, only 15 minutes away. Riverside walks and an array of restaurants and bars. The area has an array of Blue Flag beaches and is very near to Rio Safari where you can even swim with sea lions.

The apartment cannot take dogs I’m afraid. Only dogs belonging to permanent owners are allowed to limit any nuisance to other residents and enable the policing of any which may cause a nuisance. Having said that. There is only one dog which doesn’t bark. I have made particular note of this as we know many people like to take their animals away with them.

Formentera del Segura is also close to the Parque Natural de La Mata y Torrevieja. A huge natural park area with many scenic walks and a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Modern, immaculate, 2nd floor apartment with lift, air conditioning, heaters for winter use if needed. Spacious double bedroom and new full sized double bed settee with a proper mattress to accompany the leather settee in the lounge. Comfortable dining for 4. Small balcony with table and chairs off of the lounge and large, private rooftop solarium with furniture, large parasol, loungers and small barbeque.

The apartment is situated in Formentera del Segura. A vibrant Spanish village with a great community atmosphere of British, Spanish and other nationalities. Guardamar beach is only 15 mins away by car, with lots of other beaches in the surrounding area. Finca golf course 5 mins and a very good bus service runs to surrounding beaches and towns including Torrevieja with its modern shops, marina, beach and promenade tastefully blending with this old Spanish town. Torrevieja has a massive market on a Friday. Alicante airport is only 30 mins away.

The apartment is only a short stroll away from restaurants and bars where you can experience the atmosphere of being in the heart of this lovely Spanish village whilst watching the world go by relaxing in the sun. The village square is the 'hub' of the village where everyone gathers in the mornings for a coffee and tostada, in the afternoon for an ice cold drink or one of a variety of delicious ice creams and in the evening at the open air bar popular with Spanish and British.

As well as several Spanish restaurants offering very good value meals, there are also British bars offering traditional fare from a carvery, fish and chips, liver and mash etc. Sunley's is a stone's throw from the property and offers a full range of delicious home cooked food at very reasonable prices.

Shops, pharmacy and bank are also only a few minutes walk away and there are lovely walks along the river Segura to surrounding villages in both directions.

Formentera also has an open air municipal swimming pool with life guard, which is open in the summer months and is currently only 2 euros for admission.

There is a small market in Formentera on a Monday selling a wide selection of items from fruit and veg to shoes, clothes and house wares. It is situated in the road at the back of the school. There are markets in the area on most days.

Alicante airport is only 30 minutes away and door to door transfers are available for those who would prefer not to drive. There is plenty of quiet roadside parking right outside the apartments but again for those who prefer not to drive, there is a good bus service only 3 mins walk from the property. One of our guests stated that he was going to hire a car for part of his 3 week stay but found the bus service so good, he didn't bother. However the time table apparently changes when the children go back to school so although there are time tables at the apartment it may be well to double cheque the current times displayed at the bus stop heading towards Almoradi. On a Saturday, we are told the bus runs an hour later. Shops also close at 2pm on a Saturday.

The village has its share of fiestas and celebrations. One unique to Formentera, which is in May, is "The Day of the Bicycle", in which many of the villagers take part in a race. In Formentera del Segura, May is known as "The month of Flowers" and there are many celebrations including a grand procession in honour of the Virgin of the immaculate conception. A major celebration takes place in August (the last week of the month), to pay tribute to the patron saints of the village San Miguel and San Roque, culminating in "The day of the Sardine and Wine".

You will find lots of information at the property but you can also get details of fiestas and jazz nights held in the social hall, when the mill is open for a free tour and your own hessian bag of flour made from the corn you have just watch ground. The bus service goes to Alicante, the beautiful beach of Guardamar and bustling Torrevieja with its beaches, marina, and cafes offering relaxed eating and drinking whilst soaking up the sun. Also the beautiful town of Almoradi and Rojales with medical centres, theatres and lots more. The shell house and cave dwellings in Rojales are a must see and are walkable from Formentera for the relatively fit. The town hall has lots of information about current things going on.

There is an Aqua park at Rojales. Benijofar, Rojales and Benimar are within easy walking distance across the river and through the lemon groves. A bit livelier than the little villages the other side of Formentera but worth the walk to explore their charm.

If you would rather relax closer to your holiday home, the large private rooftop solarium offers views of the mountains and plenty of room for outdoor eating and sunbathing. The solarium can be accessed from either the internal communal stairs or lift.

For golf lovers, Finca golf course is only 15mins away.

The Costa Blanca in general is famous for its sandy beaches and rocky coves and many of the beaches have the Blue Flag, signifying cleanliness and safe bathing. It is a beautiful region with mountains stretching along most of the coast. The A7 motorway stretches from north to south along the coast. The N332 also runs parallel. The Costa Blanca has the best all year round temperatures. In the winter months it is lucky enough to have nearly as many sunny days as in the summertime.

For those bringing a baby or toddler we have supplied a few essentials such as an additional mattress for the travel cot to make it more comfortable, bedding, sheets, child's plate, bowl, mug, and utensils, potty seat, feeder chair with tray. The large double shower makes bathing with a small child easier. We understand that most airlines allow pushchairs free of charge and there is no extra charge for a small child using the travel cot.

About Kathleen Sussex

Having spent holidays in Spain in apartments found through owners direct and coming up to retirement age, we decided to purchase an apartment ourselves and let it to other lovers of Spain.

My husband and I will also be using the property for our own holidays whenever the opportunity allows and have furnished and equipped it to standards we would like and expect ourselves. Thereby we are able to personally ensure its comfort and cleanliness.

We decided to keep our prices low. Not because we didn't think our property was worth more but because we wanted people to experience this lovely part of Spain and what our apartment had to offer. We hope that guests will then give positive feedback to others although we welcome all comments as this is the only way to ensure that we do our best. So far our feedback has been excellent with guests coming back. Rebooking is definitely the best compliment we could wish for.

Why Kathleen Sussex chose Formentera del Segura

We wanted to experience a typically Spanish village with restaurants, bars and shops and bus service right on the doorstep so that we didn't always have to drive. We also wanted pleasant places for short walks as well as being near enough to the sea to access the coast easily when we felt like it. The property also had to have an outdoor area to sit in the sun or enjoy a cool evening drink. Formentera provided all that.

Formentera also has a brilliant community spirit. There is always something going on from Jazz nights, fiestas, activities in local pubs - quizzes etc., and in the square Spanish, English, Irish and other nationalities meet for a drink, coffee, beer or one of their delicious ice creams of which there are about 12 varieties. An ample small tub costs a euro and a coffee made from fresh ground beans and a large Soberano brandy costs 2 euros! No one gets drunk though. Just very chilled out, chatting and enjoying the sun.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment has the best of both worlds having a peaceful location whilst being within a very short walking distance to restaurants, bars, shops and bus stop. The vibrant open air bar in the village square attracts English and Spanish alike and all generations with children playing whilst parents and grandparents relax chatting enjoying a drink or one of the many flavours of ice cream on offer. There are lovely walks along the river Segura to access nearby villages and towns. A large private rooftop solarium for enjoying the sun, a barbeque or a cool, quiet, evening drink and a bus service to easily access beaches and nearby larger towns without the need to drive makes Formentera an ideal spot for all generations.

For those who do drive, this is a beautiful area to explore more widely with its National park areas, lots of beaches and coves and surrounding mountains.

Had a lovely week here. The apartment is lovely. Did lots of walking, visiting around Formentera and local villages. The locals are very friendly and the owner of one of the bars offered to take us to Guardamar and collect us again. We were so pleased we gave him 15 euros for his fuel.

Great food at Sunley's (just across from the apartment near the river) and The Pub, on the main road. Fish and chips at The Pub on Friday night and Sunday carvery/roast at both.

Word of warning, buses run an hour later on Saturdays. Also shops close at 2pm on Saturdays and don't open again until Monday morning so don't forget your essentials for the weekend.

We were very lucky as we found it very peaceful apart from the little dog who woke us up about 8am. We called him Yappie!

Notes on accommodation: This property is in immaculate condition with modern furnishings and fittings. Outside: As well as a small balcony from the lounge with table and chairs, there is a large, private rooftop solarium with table and chairs and lounge seats. An open air municipal swimming pool is close by and has a lifeguard in summer months. Currently entry is only 2 euros. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, bed linen, tea towels, supplied. Cleaning and laundry is done on turnover but there are two sets of towels (4 sets for two people), 2 sets of bed linen & 3 tea towels. Water, milk, coffee/tea/suger for a cuppa on arrival with our compliments. Other: Large rooftop private solarium with table, chairs and lounging chairs. Can be accessed via stairs or lift.

A lovely Apartment

Have just spent 5 days here and was not long enough. Everything as described. A very spacious, airy apartment equipped with everything you could possibly need all of good quality. Very clean and comfortable. Instructions on location spot on and very useful insuctions on use of TV etc. Will definitely be back next year. One of the nicest apartments we have stayed in. Thank you

What a lovely apartment. I would recommend it to everyone.

It has everything you could possibly need to have the perfect break in Spain.

The surrounding area has some really nice walks and the people are very friendly.

spotlesslt clean , home from home , well maintained apartment block , lovely comfy bed

From arriving at the apartment we were greeted by a spotlessly clean and very inviting apartment , although only one bedroom which is very airy and spacious with a extremely comfy bed and big picture window the apartment has everything you need , home from home really , a very informative pack is sent to you prior to your arrival on what's in the village etc, lovely shower and bathroom , small balcony but fine for two people , although we went off peak (March) we still sat outside for coffee in the afternoon and late sun , roof terrace is ideal just to chill out or in the summer month to sunbathe and have a barbie as there is one there.

Overall a lovely apartment and we are hoping to go again in the summer if we can get booked , on a personal note would of maybe liked a radio , but that's me .

Will definitely stay there again and recommend others .

Beautiful clean and tidy appartment.

Lovely clean and tidy apartment with a great layout and excellent facilities set in a lovely Spanish town, we used this as a base for visiting the more wider area. Kathleen and Paul the apartment owners were an absolute pleasure to deal with who gave us all the information we needed to get there and where to visit in fantastic detail. Great value for money as we stayed for 10 days, the AC was a god send as we had a very hot period!

There are lots of great value local restaurants and bars to choose from within walking distance a great supermarket to stock up on provisions. My only minor negative was the locals can get quite noisy at night but this was mostly due to local festival periods.

Owner's Response: What lovely comments. We do try to make things as easy as possible for our guests to enable them to have a stress free and comfortable holiday. The fiesta's! We thought we had them all sussed to warn guests when they are on - it's usually quiet at night - but perhaps it is testament to the village's great community spirit and liveliness that they celebrate events and Saints that mean so much and are a part of the village's history. When it is so hot through the day, some celebrations do take place later in the evening when it is cooler. The village has such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and there is even a Spanish guy who gives free Spanish lessons on a Thursday night in an effort to integrate the British and Spanish who live there. It even has a walking football club on a Wednesday morning for the elder ones amongst us!

Booking Notes:
£50.00 deposit per holiday week required at time of booking, with the balance due 6 weeks before the holiday to include an additional £50.00 returnable by cheque on return of the keys which will be sent to you with specific property location details/appliance details, at least 2 weeks before the commencement of your holiday. For bookings made within 2 months of arrival date the full amount will be due.

There is a 40 euro turnover cleaning/laundry charge which should be paid directly to the cleaner. This may be left at the apartment on vacation or if you would rather pay personally, her telephone number is in the comments book. She lives in the village.

Keys: Keys will be sent to you with details of how to find the property and where everything is located, 2 weeks before your holiday commencement date.

Changeover Day:
Change over days can be flexible depending on availability. Arrival time is no earlier than 2pm and departures by 10am but again there can be some flexibility depending on whether the property is booked the day before/after. We try to leave time between bookings to be as helpful as possible. Please give arrival and departure times when booking.

Notes on prices:
Christmas/New Year period - save £50.00 on 2 weeks.
10% discount on bookings of 2 weeks or more all season

Electricity, bed linen, towels, tea towels and complimentary water, milk, tea, coffee, sugar, dish clothes and soap are included.
The bed will be made up for your arrival with another set of bed linen and towels provided for a change during your stay.
Cleaning/laundry is done on turnover but for longer stays the cleaner is happy to do laundry/cleaning at an extra charge. There is a full selection of cleaning equipment in the apartment as well as pegs and a retractable line on the solarium.
