About the property

Cottage in Beaminster, Dorset, England - Wantsley Cottage

The Space: The Cottage at Wantsley Farm is set in the glorious Dorset countryside, 20 minutes from the Jurassic coast and within walking distance of the beautiful village of Beaminster. You can walk straight from the door across the hills more or less through the set of Far From the Madding Crowd. The cottage is in the grounds of Wantsley Farm, a lovely family farmhouse which has 17 acres of rolling hills and woodland. It has its own patio seating area, and parking space for 2 cars. The house has a kingsize bed in the master bedroom, complete with roll-top bath, and 2 single beds in the other, with a pull out bed for a 5th person. There is a shower room with loo and a separate downstairs loo. Oak floors throughout, exposed beams, a wood-burner stove and French windows make the cottage light and airy in the summer months and delightfully cosy in the winter. There is a patio with table and chairs just outside the sitting room. Due to the close proximity of a thatched roof I'm afraid it's no BBQ's. Home baked fresh bread, eggs, jam and chutney are available from the Farmhouse on request. We can also arrange Photography Courses, Yoga, Silks and Hoop courses, Massage, and in-house Pedicure and Manicure.

Guest Access: Guests have access to the farms fields, the zip wire and streams, the woodland and can walk through the grounds to the local pub in nearby Stoke Abbott. Spare linen will be in the cottage, maid service will be weekly.

Interaction with Guests. Guests can feel welcome to drop in with requests or for local advice, but their privacy is respected in every way.

About Charlotte Booth

I'm a jazz/cabaret singer, ex-actress and Aerialist instructor, and something of a coffee nut, so there is always very good coffee to be had here! I am married to a photographer and have two small slightly noisy, but adorable boys. We love to travel with packs on our backs to distant lands with adventure in mind, but love nothing more than walking through the beautiful Dorset countryside we're so lucky to live in. Theatre, books and swimming are what make me tick, when time from running a busy family allows that is. We have a pretty relaxed and laissez faire attitude as befits life in the countryside.

Why Charlotte Booth chose Broadwindsor

This little corner of England is very special and dear to us. Away from major motorways we are surrounded by astonishingly beautiful and varied countryside, and stunning coastline of cliffs, beaches and estuaries. The most appealing part of living where we do is the ability to just walk out of the front door straight into the country.

Notes on accommodation: Wantsley Farm and Cottage are a rural chaotic idylls, bleating sheep, clucking chickens, the lot. To add to that we have 2 young boys who we will always try to keep under control, but we cannot guarantee it! That makes them sound feral, and they're not they're adorable, but if kids just wind you up (it can happen), then maybe this isn't ideal for you :). Outside: Patio, table and chairs. Small lawn and access to 17 acres of fields and woodland. Regrettably to the close proximity of a thatched roof, no BBQ's are permitted. Utility Room: Washing Machine,

A Relaxing Rural Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cottage. It has been converted/renovated to an extremely high standard. The features we regard as essential in terms of comfort and efficiency are top notch, ie bed, bathroom, kitchen. If I can cook as easily as I can at home, then it’s a definite hit!

The sitting room has a fantastic wood-burning stove which we really enjoyed over Christmas.

5 minutes at most from Beaminster where there is a more than adequate range of the basics.

Our hosts were away, but everything was ready for us, including some home made goodies and eggs from their hens. An extremely comprehensive information booklet meant that we were perfectly self-sufficient.

It’s very well placed for days out, both coastal and countryside, and some splendid pubs in this part of the world!

Charming cottage set in rural Dorset

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cottage with lots of rural charm. Quiet location. Good place to base ourselves for a week away in Dorset. Facilities provided were super - not every place we've stayed at has provided toilet roll! The bedrooms were a super size and very comfy. The shower was a welcome luxury after a day at the beach. Loved having the chickens greet us every morning. The walk to the local pub via the fields and woods was excellent and provided us with some superb views.

Lovely cottage in an idyllic location.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week in Dorset. The cottage was lovely, idyllic countryside location but still close to all the sights and less than 5 mins from pretty village. The kids (4 and 9) loved playing on the rope swings, by the steam and with the chickens and ducks. Delicious eggs, jam and bread from Charlie also a big hit. Highly recommended and we'd love to go back.

Property was lovely and also provided a great spot to walk into Beaminster. Welcome pack with freshly layed eggs was a nice touch.
