A Perfect Getaway Holiday Home, Impeccably Stylish, Rustic Luxury

Overview

Cottage in Beaminster, Dorset, England - Wantsley Cottage

The Space: The Cottage at Wantsley Farm is set in the glorious Dorset countryside, 20 minutes from the Jurassic coast and within walking distance of the beautiful village of Beaminster. You can walk straight from the door across the hills more or less through the set of Far From the Madding Crowd. The cottage is in the grounds of Wantsley Farm, a lovely family farmhouse which has 17 acres of rolling hills and woodland. It has its own patio seating area, and parking space for 2 cars. The house has a kingsize bed in the master bedroom, complete with roll-top bath, and 2 single beds in the other, with a pull out bed for a 5th person. There is a shower room with loo and a separate downstairs loo. Oak floors throughout, exposed beams, a wood-burner stove and French windows make the cottage light and airy in the summer months and delightfully cosy in the winter. There is a patio with table and chairs just outside the sitting room. Due to the close proximity of a thatched roof I'm afraid it's no BBQ's. Home baked fresh bread, eggs, jam and chutney are available from the Farmhouse on request. We can also arrange Photography Courses, Yoga, Silks and Hoop courses, Massage, and in-house Pedicure and Manicure.

Guest Access: Guests have access to the farms fields, the zip wire and streams, the woodland and can walk through the grounds to the local pub in nearby Stoke Abbott. Spare linen will be in the cottage, maid service will be weekly.

Interaction with Guests. Guests can feel welcome to drop in with requests or for local advice, but their privacy is respected in every way.

About the Owner

I'm a jazz/cabaret singer, ex-actress and Aerialist instructor, and something of a coffee nut, so there is always very good coffee to be had here! I am married to a photographer and have two small slightly noisy, but adorable boys. We love to travel with packs on our backs to distant lands with adventure in mind, but love nothing more than walking through the beautiful Dorset countryside we're so lucky to live in. Theatre, books and swimming are what make me tick, when time from running a busy family allows that is. We have a pretty relaxed and laissez faire attitude as befits life in the countryside.

Lovely time

  • 4 of 5

We had a really enjoyable holiday and we were blessed with some lovely weather. We did think that it needed some extra dishes ie salad bowl, bread bin, extra eggs cups ( only 3 available) and there was only 4 coat hangers.

The cottage itself was cosy and very comfortable and the bed was really comfortable. Charlotte met us and she made us very welcome.

Great cottage, great setting, totally awesome!!!

  • 5 of 5

Four of us stayed here in August, my wife and I along with our two energetic boys aged 5 & 8. What a great setting. The cottage itself is perfect, modern with a real authentic feel. The acres (literally) of space around the property was great to run around in, made all the better for the boys with the rope swings and long long zip wire. Short drive to shops in the village and only 15 - 20 min drive to coast. We were really lucky with the weather as it was gorgeous sunshine every day which made morning coffee on the patio outside with the chickens and ducks a treat. The fresh bread, homemade Jam and chutney on arrival were an added bonus. The beds are really comfy and have lovely fresh white linen, there's a powerful shower, great roll top bath and everything you could need for a great stay. You won't be disappointed with this one and we'd definitely come back. One other thing.....if you do stay here, don't tell the kids about the secret door in the bedroom until at least mid week as they wont stop using it!!😉

Perfect place to explore beautiful Dorset

  • 5 of 5

Located at the perfect place to explore Dorset (and Somerset), we found a nearly perfect cottage. Well equipped, comfortable and a great mix of an old and rustic basis with modern and new interiors. My family (with 15 yo daughter) and I had two fantastic weeks there.

In combination with fab and familial hosts, our holidays were absolutely close to perfect.

In addition, Charlie is a brilliant aerial silk teacher. Our daughter Marie had so great fun in taking special lessons with Charlie. A quite unique experience.

The most wonderful stay in Dorset.

  • 5 of 5

Charlie and Tim's cottage in Dorset is a little piece of paradise. We were there for a week with our two young children, and we all had the most wonderful time. The cottage is beautifully decorated and very welcoming, and the outdoor grounds are fantastic with a zip wire and fun swings dotted around by the stream and in the forest. Charlie and Tim (and their children) are lovely hosts, and I cannot recommend their cottage highly enough.

The perfect rural getaway

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my 10 year old and we could not have been happier. She loved the huge garden, the trampoline, the chickens, the constantly escaping sheep and the owners have 2 boys roughly the same age who were wonderful company. The cottage itself is very comfortable and tastefully decorated. Lyme Regis is very close so we had fun on the beach, despite the rain! This really is a lovely spot to spend a few days.

Blissfull

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was just perfect. Beautifully interior designed, rustic, stylish, spacious and comfortable. The roll top bath in the master bedroom a particular favourite of mine. A more private and affordable Babington House in my opinion.

Surrounded by rolling green hills and lush countryside to walk in couldn't have asked for more.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Wantsley Farm and Cottage are a rural chaotic idylls, bleating sheep, clucking chickens, the lot. To add to that we have 2 young boys who we will always try to keep under control, but we cannot guarantee it! That makes them sound feral, and they're not they're adorable, but if kids just wind you up (it can happen), then maybe this isn't ideal for you :). Outside: Patio, table and chairs. Small lawn and access to 17 acres of fields and woodland. Regrettably to the close proximity of a thatched roof, no BBQ's are permitted. Utility Room: Washing Machine,
