About Adam Greenow

The Cockle Shell is run by my partner and me. When we bought the property it was in a sorry state. We have put a lot of effort into renovating it. We live local and are always happy to help out if needed. My partner was born in Penclawdd and knows the area well. The village has a fascinating history has does the Gower. The presence of the Normans can still be felt in the area in the many castles and other heritage sites like Park Breos. You can also visit Arthur's stone a cromlech dating from the stone age which was a popular tourist attraction for people from across Europe in the Dark Ages!

These days there other attractions that draw the crowds from award winning beaches and surfing, to cycling and vibrant city life. Whether it's walking, fishing, golfing or archery it's all here.

Adam Greenow purchased this house in 2013

Why Adam Greenow chose Wales

We often visit this spot like many others to watch the sunset and take photos. The Marsh ponies and blue boats are ideal subjects for painting and photography. A number of businesses have opened up recently nearby including a fish bar, cafe and surf shop. The pub opposite is currently closed but there are plans to turn it into a restaurant in the near future. We think it's an ideal spot to explore the Gower and surrounding area.

What makes this house unique

Surprisingly spacious for a traditional home. The Cockle shell has had a number of reincarnations and uses in the past including that of a Drapers Shop. This is reflected in its quirky layout and spacious living room with log burner. Ideally situated you will want for nothing as there are numerous shops on your doorstep.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We enjoyed our weekend here at the Cockle Shell. Very beautiful scenery in the Gower. The beaches are second to none. This location is very convenient for exploring and all we needed from the local amenities. Thanks for a lovely stay and we appreciated the complimentary tray.

Great Place for a stay on the coast

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for four nights so that we could meet our family and spend time exploring the coast. The house is only 20 mins from Swansea and there are plenty of great beaches nearby.

Excellent accommodation

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic accommodation, very well stocked with everything we needed for a stay away from home. Very suitable for our toddler too, plenty of space for him to amuse himself.

Excellent area with lots to visit reasonably close by, and super places to eat out on the doorstep (Cariad Cafe was my personal favourite)!

Thank you for a relaxing couple of nights, would happily return in the future.

Spacious, attractive cottage in a great location for exploring Swansea and the Gower

  • 4 of 5

Communication with Adam, the owner was prompt and friendly. He was always ready to help and provided lots of information. We used the cottage as a base whilst our son was attending a sports competition in Swansea. The cottage is as portrayed on the website. The ground floor is very spacious, the bedrooms and bathroom are decent sizes. The cottage is very comfortable, clean and well equipped, in particular the beds are comfy. It is very attractively furnished and decorated, with nice pictures and prints of the local area. The location is great in terms of local amenities (fish and chip shop, pharmacy, butcher's, well-stocked supermarket/post office all on the doorstep) and for access to exploring this part of Wales. It is, however, on a blind bend on a very busy road, which makes crossing to the car park quite tricky and leads to quite a lot of noise in the front bedroom at night. To be fair the busy road is mentioned in the cottage info. As other guests have stated, there is no smell whatsoever from the adjacent fish and chip shop - don't know how they do it! The Railway Inn across the road is a friendly, welcoming bar serving fabulous food. The only thing that lets the cottage down a bit is the poor quality finish on some of the decorating, fixtures and fittings - holes and cracks in walls, poor paint finishes and in particular the badly fitting bedroom and bathrooms doors. As other guests have commented, a tumble dryer would also be a good addition. All in all we had a great stay, we loved exploring the area in the little time we had available and would not hesitate to book again.

Owner's Response: Thank you Karen for your positive review. Really glad that you enjoyed your stay and found the location handy for local amenities. In relation to the road it's much easier to cross if you walk a couple of doors up to the cafe. There is a slight quirky nature to the cottage given its age and former uses and it is over 200 years old. We will note your suggestions. and see where we can improve and always welcome feedback. Glad you will visit us again. Best wishes Adam

A cosy stay in a great location

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is a beautiful little surprise. It's a lot smaller on the outside than in. A generous amount of living room downstairs including separate dining area. The kitchen was large and we'll equipped. There was even a sneaky downstairs toilet that we didn't find till the second day. The bedrooms are large are light. The bathroom was also a good size and clean. The chips next near are not to be missed and the local shop is in rolling distance. I great stay thank you

Superb Stay in Beautiful "Tardis-like" House

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a 4 night stay over Easter Bank Holiday weekend. Whilst this house may not look too much from the roadside it is a real gem inside and the space downstairs is a real surprise.

The lounge area is gorgeous. Comfy sofas, log burner (crackle logs make the job of lighting the fire so easy and you can buy them from CKs around the corner), candles, TV and dvd - very cosy and lovely to come back to after a day out walking.

The kitchen dining area has almost all you need. A tumble dryer would be useful for sure! ( we had one day where we were soaked from head to toe)

The hallway at the back of house is spacious - great for all your coats and boots etc and there is a downstairs loo by the back door. We used this entrance most of the time.

There is a large cupboard full of dvds, books and games etc which is a really nice touch.

The stairway is quite steep and narrow and leads to 2 comfy rooms and a spacious bathroom - the rooms are bright and comfy.

It was so nice to walk in to the kitchen and find such a wonderful welcome tray full of goodies, including treats for our dogs. We had packed tea and coffee but need not have done as really good quality products were provided.

You park your car in a free car park over a fairly busy road. It wasn't really a problem.

Just literally over the road is the estuary and we captured some absolutely stunning sunsets here. We took a lovely walk all along the edge turning left out of the house and took a pathway up the hill and captured some beautiful photos of the town and estuary from the top. We stopped off at a local pub and enjoyed refreshments and great local chatter. Turn right and you can follow the coastal path and walk for miles.

We used the house as a base to explore all the incredible beaches on the Gower - Whiteford, Rhossilli, Caswell, Three Cliffs Bay; Langland, Mumbles, Cefyn Bryn etc. It's very easy driving around but watch your sat nav take you down lots of single track roads! !

The Gower is simply breathtaking and the house is beautifully decorated, comfy and spacious offering a great base to explore this location.

We would definitely recommend and would stay again.

The arrival information you are sent by the ownet is very comprehensive

Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

Almost too good to review!!

  • 5 of 5

I don't really want to leave a review of this lovely, comfortable, cottage as I may then never find availability when I want visit again!

Firstly, the owners were great, answered all my questions and sent a very comprehensive copy of their information in advance for us to look at. They also made it quite clear that our dog was very welcome too.

The property was really well decorated and equipped with everything you would need and they left us tea, coffee, wine, soft drink and treats which included, most importantly, two large dog bowls and a packet of Schmackos for our puppy!

There were lots of DVDs, Freesat TV and internet access to enjoy in the comfy living room, a spacious kitchen, two comfortable bedrooms, a bathroom with a bath and a loo downstairs as well.

We particularly liked being able to come in the back door onto tiles where we could towel down the wet dog without messing up the living room, although Teddy was very taken with the big rug in there!

It was our first visit to the Gower peninsula but certainly not the last, there are lots of great walks and dog-friendly restaurants and pubs.

Thank you to the owners for providing such a lovely place for our long weekend.
