Chantries is a beautiful, peaceful cottage on quiet cul-de-sac just a few minutes walk from beach and local shops. The property has all modern conveniences required for a perfect holiday. including WiFi and is ideal for a relaxing break near both the sea and the countryside. Just off the coast of the south of England, the Isle of Wight is a stunning and diverse holiday destination. With 350 ferry crossings a day and routes that link directly with rail, coach and road its incredibly easy to reach either by car via ferry or on foot via the FastCat or Hovercraft making use of the Isle of Wight's excellent transport system that has been specifically designed with the holidaymaker in mind.

About the Owner

We are a family with two young Children and over the past 5 years we have enjoyed fantastic holidays on the Island. Chantries is now our holiday home and we want to extend a genuine "home from home" feeling to our guests. The house has all the modern conveniences you would expect, including free WIFI, but it is also equipped with the basics such as teabags, coffee, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets. There are toys, games, books and DVDs which are freely available for you to use too.

I stayed in Chantries with my husband for a week early November - we were in much need of a relaxing holiday and Chantries was the perfect place for it. Such a stylish and well kept house, we didnt want to leave.

A real home from home

We found Chantries both well maintained and comfortable. Frances was very helpful when communicating with us via email and Nikki provided a warm welcome to the house. We really liked the garden and as the weather was pleasant we spent time outside enjoying the peaceful setting. The property's close proximity to the beach was a major plus but equally it was quite straightforward to visit other locations using Bembridge as a base. We would certainly recommend Chantries and if visiting the IOW in the future would want to return there.

Third time back at Chantries and we love it!

Chantries is the most homely holiday rental that we have ever stayed in. The house has plenty of space, even for the six we had with us this time. Recent updates to the house have even improved it. Perfect location as well with a short walk to the beach, local shop and Bembridge high street. And highlight is always the weekly launching of the RNLI lifeboats from the station at the end of the road, usually on a Wednesday.

A lovely holiday home

We spent a wonderful 4 nights at Chantries. The house is lovely - very comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, good shower! - and is perfectly well equipped for families (we have two children aged 7 and 3). It's an easy stroll to the local shops of Bembridge and the beach. Lunch at The Beach Hut on Forelands Beach was a particular highlight - delicious sandwiches and seafood! Also The Best Dressed Crab on the waterfront. St Helens Duver is worth a visit where you can hire dinghys & kayaks from the very friendly people at Tacktisle Adventures. We would definitely recommend this property for either a family holiday or a quiet getaway. Thank you Frances and Andy!

Had a wonderful weeks holiday here at Chantries! Very relaxing, just what we wanted. Frances was very professional and helpful throughout and even went to the trouble of ensuring there were plenty of toys at the house for our 18 month old. Perfect back garden for him to run around in too. We loved the quiet location for the house and walking proximity to Bembridge village. Seaview, St Helens and Shanklin are only a short drive away also. Would highly recommend Chantries for a break on the IOW!

Home from home without the chores!

Arrived yesterday after a stressful day at work to find a pretty cottage in the heart of Bembrdige awaiting me. Immediately started to unwind, and settle into this exceptionally cozy home. In brief, Chantries is a 1940s detached home, with old world charm, fused with modern day accessories,. So, whilst there is original parquet flooring, and a mix of 1970s china in the kitchen, it is totally in keeping with its surroundings and adds to the charm. This home has a modern kitchen, with Bosch appliances, integral oven etc; the kitchen is open plan with breakfast room, which has doors to garden. The house faces north east to the front and south west to the back so alawys sunny - and the kitchen is double aspect so has sun all day. There is a large living room leading to garden room, and out again to the garden. Downstairs shower room is large and modern; and upstairs there are three double bedrooms. The family bathroom is upstairs too, charming and has white panelled walls, and a beautiful victorian roll top bath - perfect for a romantic get away!

Outside, there is a large south west facing sunny garden, with beautiful summer house which the owners have made into a pretty play house for children to enjoy.

The living room has a flat screen TV, with dvd player. The owners have provided a large selection of games, toys, puzzles and dvds for their guests' use. And for those who can't quite leave work behind? There is also wi-fi at the house!

Chantries is set on a quiet private gravelled road, with ample parking; surrounded by similar properties so totally in keeping with its surroundings.

If you are looking for a peaceful getaway, ten minutes walk to the beach, with local shops and deli at end of the road and two local sought after pubs, then give this a go. Oh, and the fish and chip shop locally was a find last night! Cooked all, inc chips, fresh to order - so still crispy when we got home!

We love all that the Island has to offer. It is like a collection of all the best bits of the UK ranging from the diverse coastline of cliffs, rock pools and surf beaches to vantage points high up in the Downs overlooking Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With the highest sunshine figures in the UK, the experience of spending time on the Island is memorable borne out by Lonely Planet declaring that the Isle of Wight is the best place to cycle in the world!! We viewed Chantries on a January afternoon and were struck with how light and bright all the rooms felt. The previous owner renovated the property retaining the property's original character and charm and we fell in love with it instantly. The house accommodates 6 people easily with a large generous open plan kitchen / dining room, sitting room with views to the garden and all the 3 bedrooms are of a good size. The property sits on a corner plot and the garden feels private and secure - the perfect antidote to busy urban life!

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The pretty beach at Bembridge Life Boat Station (Lane End) is approx. 7 minute walk away and provides access to wonderful walk around the headland at Bembridge.

The "wilder" beach at Forelands is 10 minutes walk away. Bembridge Harbour is also 10-15 minutes walk away.

Sandown with its sandy beach, pier and coastal resort attractions is approximately a 10 minute drive away.

Travel:

Fishbourne ferry terminal approximately 20 minute drive from the house

East Cowes ferry terminal approximately 35 minutes drive the house

Ryde Pier Head for Fast Cat services from Portsmouth Harbour approximately 20 minutes drive from the house.

Distances:

A local parade of shops including a very well stocked Co-op, Post Office and delicatessen is 2-3 minutes walk from Chantries. A wider range of shops including a butchers, bakery, florists, cafes, Boots Pharmacy is less than a 15 minute walk away in the heart of Bembridge village.

There are 2 pubs within 10 minutes walking distance of Chantries as well as an Indian restaurant and 2 cafes on nearby beaches.

Further Details:

The island has a lot to offer for different ages and interests. For children, apart from the numerous beaches, there is plenty to offer when the British weather is less kind including Blackgang Chine, Dinosaur Isle, Robin Hill Adventure Park (see. www.dayoutwiththekids.co.uk).

It is also a beautiful area for walking, cycling, water sports and birdwatching at the nearby RSPB owned marshes. Popular attractions on the Island include Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle, Quarr Abbey, Culver Down and the Classic Boat Museum.

Chantries is ideally located. At the end of the Lane is a parade of shops were you can get a fresh loaf of bread and a pink of milk and a stone throw from the newly opened Spinnaker Pub. It is close to the beach (7 min walk), the village (15 min walk) and well positioned to explore all the rest the Island has to offer. The property is located off a quiet unmade road which immediately gives you sense of peace and quiet yet within close to all the amenities that Bembridge has to offer. Bembridge is a village with a real heart that beats all year round with a varied range of shops and restaurants. This makes it an ideal place to visit both in and out of the holiday season.

For very young children, there is a travel cot and high chair - please let us know if these will be required so we can leave them out for you. We have also recently added stairgates both at the top and the bottom of the stairs. Outside: Generous front garden with parking for 2 cars.
