About the Owner

Carl, the owner, lives on site, he and his helpers maintain the pool and the grounds and are available when you need them and invisible when you don't.

Carl's previous professional career includes, forestry, sustainable land management and scientific research into environmental, forestry and remediation of contaminated land issues.

Carl also has a keen interest in green woodworking, traditional woodland crafts, woodland management, Oak timber-framing and C17th French building techniques. Please let us know if you are interested in any of these subjects.

Belinda flits between France and the UK working for a global insurer.

We have a well-trained dog: Jazz is a working cocker spaniel. There's two farm cats, a few chickens and a pig. Guest's children are welcome to help collect eggs and feed the chickens. Choupette, the pig, relishes any kitchen waste.

We simply adore the rolling Morbihan countryside, its beautiful meandering rivers set in verdant valleys and its glorious coastline with the right blend of long sandy beaches, rocky outcrops, beautiful estuaries and quaint harbours.

The gastronomic delights of Brittany are on your doorstep: crepes, galetts, beurre moule, cidre, beer (the wine's not bad either) and an abundance of fresh fish and shellfish. Boulangeries with their array of breads and mouthwatering patisseries. As well as the sense of space, peace and tranquillity all make for a more relaxed way of life.

A peaceful location and a perfect retreat

  • 5 of 5

Hazel Cottage is a well-equipped cottage for two set in delightful grounds in beautiful countryside. The owner, Carl, is a perfect host and a good source of local knowledge. We would highly recommend Hazel Cottage as an 'away from it all' base, yet within an area (Morbihan) with so much to offer and so many places within reach to visit. We had a lovely time. Thank you Carl.

A Perfect Place to Stay in Brittany

  • 5 of 5

Hazel cottage is set in a wonderful location surrounded by peaceful countryside and delightful woodland walks. The cottage itself was exquisite and the welcome basket was a nice gesture.

The lovely heated pool was a good size and kept at a very nice temperature. Carl was the perfect host, on hand for help and advice if needed.

Not only are we very happy to recommend a stay at Hazel Cottage but we are hoping to return again in the very near future.

Highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

We wanted time to recharge our batteries which staying at Hazal Cottage certainly did. The cottage is set in the heart of beautiful countryside surrounded by wildlife, two friendly farm cats, "Jazz" the dog and not to mention Carl who was always on hand with help and advice on the local area. Even though we visited at the end of March the weather was warm enough to sit out on the decking soaking up the early spring sunshine We would highly recommend Hazel Cottage and look forward to visiting again the the near future.

A Charming and Idyllic holiday cottage for two

  • 5 of 5

The minute we turned the corner into the driveway alongside Couetilliec Cottages we knew we had made an excellent choice. Hazel Cottage is just as we imagined and hoped it would be. As we walked into the downstairs it was welcomingly cool on the hot June day and we felt totally relaxed with the beautiful view out over the decking on to the sloping lawn and inviting woods. The cottage had all we needed to be comfortable and all was as specified in the website. Upstairs the bedroom was charming and comfortable with a very nice ensuite bathroom. There was always masses of hot water. We liked the velux windows in the bedroom which gave light yet privacy and awesome views of the countryside, and especially when there was a thunderstorm! The cottage was spotlessly clean and Carl takes pride in his high standards of property maintenance. He provided us with a lovely and generous basket of goodies which meant we didn't need to go shopping straight away. Throughout our holiday he was always around if we needed to know anything, but he was never intrusive. Couetilliec is the perfect place to get away from it all and with its lovely swimming pool, woods and meadows who would want any other entertainment. Another time we would take advantage of his bicycles to explore the area. We loved the local village where we experienced genuine Breton culture and hospitality. Because we really didn't want to do much this holiday we found the little marche, cafe, boulangerie/patisserie and pizzaria provided everything we needed without going much further afield. As described in the website, there were very many super rural, urban and coastal places to explore not too far afield. We would most certainly recommend Hazel Cottage to anyone; being small of stature ourselves, quirky 17th century architecture wasn't a problem for us! We loved our holiday there and hope to return again.
