Set amidst the beautiful rolling Morbihan countryside, in a tranquil, idyllic sylvan setting with a large secluded shared heated pool and 30 acres of lawns, woodland, meadows and a stream to explore, Couetilliec is an exclusive hamlet of 5 charming C17th and C18th stone cottages. The large heated swimming pool (11.5m X 5m X2m max. depth) is open from May to September inclusive.

Hazel cottage is an ideal couple's getaway. It is also great for families with one child/baby. The all important boulangerie, is 2.5 miles by car, bike or foot and is conveniently located next to a bar that serves excellent coffee on a wide pavement facing the impressive village church.

The dining area has an Oak drop-leaf table, 2 upholstered Oak chairs and a wall-mounted electric heater. The lounge area has a 2-seater sofa, a Panasonic 32" LCD smart TV with English free-to-air satelliteTV and French terrestrial TV and a Panasonic BluRay player. The south facing french doors open onto timber decking with uninterrupted views across the laws to the woodland below: ideal for spotting the local wildlife, especially at dawn or dusk. A mid-flight quarter turn wooden staircase (please see 'visitor suitability' below), with under stairs storage, leads to the bedroom and bathroom. There is a wall-mounted electric heater along with a well-stocked bookcase complete with board games and information leaflets. Upstairs comprises: Bright and airy double aspect bedroom, the double bed is conveniently positioned between two east and west facing Velux windows affording, on clear nights, a spot of stargazing whilst lying in bed. There are original oak 'A' frames and a further east facing Velux window. The east facing widows have views across the lawn to a ruined stone barn and the rolling Morbihan countryside beyond. The west facing window has views across the lawn to the ruined cider-mill (le pressoir) beyond. Matching pine bedroom furniture includes bedside cabinets, chest of drawers and a full length mirror. There is a wall-mounted heater and a compact walk-in wardrobe. A door leads into the bathroom with toilet, hand basin, bath with mixer shower over, a west facing feature Juliet style window with views across the lawn to the ruined cider-mill beyond (le pressoir). For summer lets a single bed can also be placed in the bedroom; additional cost £50. By request we will supply stair-gates, cot, high-chair, plastic plates and beakers. The cottage also has free Wi-Fi.

The cottage retains many period features such as ground-floor ceiling beams (7' headroom) and Oak 'A' frames on the first-floor ceiling (max 6'6" headroom). The over-bath shower is built in to the eaves and showering headroom is restricted to 6' by the sloping ceiling. As you ascend the staircase a ceiling beam is 6' 1" above a staircase tread.

Outside, the south-facing secluded timber decking provides a lovely spot for sunbathing, al fresco dining, wildlife viewing, reading a good book or simply relaxing listening to birdsong and taking in the view. A set of teak garden furniture, parasol, and charcoal BBQ are on the deck. The timber deck also benefits from uninterrupted views down across sweeping lawns to the woodland beyond - it's simply a magical spot.

The large (11.5m X 5m X 2m max. depth) heated swimming pool is open from May to September inclusive. Roman steps give ease of access and sun loungers and parasols are positioned on the large surrounding patio. The pool area is fenced and access via a locking gate. The pool is in a secluded position and flanked on three sides by a sweeping lawn with woodland beyond.

Price includes a welcome basket (for stays of 7 or more nights), cleaning products, bed linen, bath mats, hand, bath and tea towels, please bring your own pool / beach towels.

You will find lots to see and do at the many local attractions as Couetilliec is ideally located midway between the Lac de Guerledan and the medieval towns of Vannes and Pontivy, and the stunning Morbihan coastline within 25 miles. Close to fishing, golf, horse-riding, wonderful medieval towns and beaches, Hazel cottage offers a wide range of activities for everyone to enjoy. Or just sit back and enjoy the peace and tranquillity in the heated swimming pool, extensive lawns, woodland and meadow. Couetilliec is at the end of a country lane with no passing traffic and absolutely no road noise so everybody can relax and play in safety. It is also a great place if you like an abundance of fauna and flora. We have seen red squirrel, deer, badgers, foxes, buzzards, owls and woodpeckers. There are many ancient pollarded trees and most are smothered in an array of mosses, lichens and ferns. With zero light pollution it's also a great place for a spot of star gazing. If you are keen photographer or artist the opportunities are endless and if you enjoy cycling check out our Brittany Cycle Tours website.

Hazel cottage is 1 of 5 cottages in an exclusive hamlet and outside the peak season you will more than likely have all that Couetilliec has to offer to yourself.

About Carl Foster

The owners, Carl and Belinda, live on site and they maintain the pool and the grounds and are available when you need them and invisible when you don't. Carl's previous professional career includes, forestry, sustainable land management and scientific research into environmental, forestry and remediation of contaminated land issues.

Carl also has a keen interest in green woodworking, traditional woodland crafts, woodland management, Oak timber-framing and C17th French building techniques. Please let us know if you are interested in any of these subjects. We have a well-trained working Cocker Spaniel called Jazz and a Chocolate Labrador puppy called Otta. There are two farm cats, a few chickens and a pig. Guest's children are welcome to help collect eggs and feed the chickens. Choupette, the pig, relishes any kitchen waste.

Why Carl Foster chose Morbihan

We simply adore the rolling Morbihan countryside, its beautiful meandering rivers set in verdant valleys and its glorious coastline with the right blend of long sandy beaches, rocky outcrops, beautiful estuaries and quaint harbours. The gastronomic delights of Brittany are on your doorstep: crepes, galetts, beurre moule, cidre, beer (the wine's not bad either) and an abundance of fresh fish and shellfish. Boulangeries with their array of breads and mouthwatering patisseries. As well as the sense of space, peace and tranquillity all make for a more relaxed way of life.

Cute cottage, a haven of peace.

  • 5 of 5

Carl is a great host - he came out to fetch us in the dark and the rain when we got lost! He and Belinda also left a welcome pack in the kitchen which was lovely to start us off.

The cottages and their setting are beautiful - we were on a house-hunting trip and really sad we didn't have time to walk in the woods or say hi to Carl's pig! We may have to stay again to take advantage of the heated swimming pool (not running in February!!) and the patio with a view of the woods where we only managed a brief cup of coffee. Hazel Cottage was cute, clean, well-equipped and a haven of peace in our busy schedule.

The information file in the cottage was really useful to help us find our way around the area. Lac de Guerledan and Pontivy an equidistant drive. Nearby town of Cleugerec was brilliant - vibrant small town centre with cafes, bakers, creperie, market etc. and the supermarket was open Sunday morning.

A peaceful location and a perfect retreat

  • 5 of 5

Hazel Cottage is a well-equipped cottage for two set in delightful grounds in beautiful countryside. The owner, Carl, is a perfect host and a good source of local knowledge. We would highly recommend Hazel Cottage as an 'away from it all' base, yet within an area (Morbihan) with so much to offer and so many places within reach to visit. We had a lovely time. Thank you Carl.

A Perfect Place to Stay in Brittany

  • 5 of 5

Hazel cottage is set in a wonderful location surrounded by peaceful countryside and delightful woodland walks. The cottage itself was exquisite and the welcome basket was a nice gesture.

The lovely heated pool was a good size and kept at a very nice temperature. Carl was the perfect host, on hand for help and advice if needed.

Not only are we very happy to recommend a stay at Hazel Cottage but we are hoping to return again in the very near future.

Highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

We wanted time to recharge our batteries which staying at Hazal Cottage certainly did. The cottage is set in the heart of beautiful countryside surrounded by wildlife, two friendly farm cats, "Jazz" the dog and not to mention Carl who was always on hand with help and advice on the local area. Even though we visited at the end of March the weather was warm enough to sit out on the decking soaking up the early spring sunshine We would highly recommend Hazel Cottage and look forward to visiting again the the near future.
