There is a wall-mounted electric heater along with a well-stocked bookcase complete with board games and information leaflets. Upstairs comprises: Bright and airy double aspect bedroom, the double bed is conveniently positioned between two east and west facing Velux windows affording, on clear nights, a spot of stargazing whilst lying in bed. There are original oak 'A' frames and a further east facing Velux window. The east facing widows have views across the lawn to a ruined stone barn and the rolling Morbihan countryside beyond. The west facing window has views across the lawn to the ruined cider-mill (le pressoir) beyond. Matching pine bedroom furniture includes bedside cabinets, chest of drawers and a full length mirror. There is a wall-mounted heater and a compact walk-in wardrobe. A door leads into the bathroom with toilet, hand basin, bath with mixer shower over, a west facing feature Juliet style window with views across the lawn to the ruined cider-mill beyond (le pressoir). The over-bath shower is built in to the eaves and showering headroom is restricted to 6' by the sloping ceiling. As you ascend the staircase a ceiling beam is 6' 1" above a staircase tread.

Outside, the south-facing secluded timber decking provides a lovely spot for sunbathing, al fresco dining, wildlife viewing, reading a good book or simply relaxing listening to birdsong and taking in the view. A set of teak garden furniture, parasol, and charcoal BBQ are on the deck. The timber deck also benefits from uninterrupted views down across sweeping lawns to the woodland beyond - it's simply a magical spot.

The large (11.5m X 5m X 2m max. depth) heated swimming pool is open from May to September inclusive. Roman steps give ease of access and sun loungers are positioned on the large surrounding patio. The pool area is fenced and access via a locking gate. The pool is in a secluded position and flanked on three sides by a sweeping lawn with woodland beyond.

Close to fishing, golf, horse-riding, wonderful medieval towns and beaches, Hazel cottage offers a wide range of activities for everyone to enjoy. Or just sit back and enjoy the peace and tranquillity in the heated swimming pool, extensive lawns, woodland and meadow. Couetilliec is at the end of a country lane with no passing traffic and absolutely no road noise so everybody can relax and play in safety. It is also a great place if you like an abundance of fauna and flora. We have seen red squirrel, deer, badgers, foxes, buzzards, owls and woodpeckers. There are many ancient pollarded trees and most are smothered in an array of mosses, lichens and ferns. With zero light pollution it's also a great place for a spot of star gazing. If you are keen photographer or artist the opportunities are endless and if you enjoy cycling check out our Brittany Cycle Tours website.

Hazel cottage is 1 of 5 cottages in an exclusive hamlet and outside the peak season you will more than likely have all that Couetilliec has to offer to yourself.

Cute cottage, a haven of peace.

  • 5 of 5

Carl is a great host - he came out to fetch us in the dark and the rain when we got lost! He and Belinda also left a welcome pack in the kitchen which was lovely to start us off.

The cottages and their setting are beautiful - we were on a house-hunting trip and really sad we didn't have time to walk in the woods or say hi to Carl's pig! We may have to stay again to take advantage of the heated swimming pool (not running in February!!) and the patio with a view of the woods where we only managed a brief cup of coffee. Hazel Cottage was cute, clean, well-equipped and a haven of peace in our busy schedule.

The information file in the cottage was really useful to help us find our way around the area. Lac de Guerledan and Pontivy an equidistant drive. Nearby town of Cleugerec was brilliant - vibrant small town centre with cafes, bakers, creperie, market etc. and the supermarket was open Sunday morning.

Hard to imagine anything better.

  • 5 of 5

This snug little cottage is all you could wish for if you want a quiet location and a delightful setting. It's well-equipped, smart, and sits happily in lawns and walkable woodland. A decking patio at the back is is perfect for eating out and relaxing, and the pool is great for cooling off. The owner has the ideal balance of being relaxed, attentive without fussing, and informative (eg about places to eat).

Beautiful location. Great hosts.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Hazel Cottage and we hope to return again soon!

The cottage is in a stunning location - in a quiet, rural spot, but within easy reach to beautiful towns, rivers, beaches and restaurants!

On days that you want to stay closer to home there is plenty to do exploring the private woodland and enjoying the pool.

The accommodation is well equipped, clean and comfortable.

Carl, and his wife Belinda, are the perfect hosts. Giving you plenty of space, but always on hand to offer any advice or suggestions on the local area.

We hired bikes from Carl to cycle the Blavet and had a really fantastic time.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for taking the time to review your stay and for your lovely comments. Indeed Hazel Cottage is in a quiet, rural location yet close many local attractions and amenities. We are happy to share our local knowledge and suggest places to visit. Although, on site, there are 30 acres of woodland, lawns and a meadow to explore as well as the large heated pool beckoning you to take a relaxing dip. Brittany Cycle Tours is based on site for our guest's enjoyment; there are cycles to hire combined with a collection and drop off service for guests wishing to explore further afield; such as the stunning meandering river Blavet whilst cycling along a traffic-free designated 'Greenway'. We hope to welcome you again to Hazel Cottage. Carl & Belinda Foster, Couetilliec Cottages, Brittany.

Tranquil oasis: charming and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to Hazel after wonderful 11 days spent in lively and fascinating Paris, seeking different environment and found all that we were looking for: comfort in the middle of a quiet and beautiful countryside. The property is lovingly restored and maintained by Carl and Belinda with admirable environmental consciousness and great attention to details. All of the necessary comforts are provided including fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, outdoor furniture, and even heated swimming pool and bicycles.

As secluded as the cottages are, they are in the middle of historically and architecturally reach area with amazing country-side chapels, local churches, little towns, prehistoric megalithes, all within 15 minutes to 1 hr drive. Carl is more then happy to share information about surrounding region and good places to visit.

We loved laying in bed at night and seeing sky uninterrupted by city lights and full of stars ...

Thank you very much Carl and Belinda for being great hosts and for sharing with us your love for this place! When planning to go back to this area, we will definitely check if we can stay with you!

Quiteness in Britanny woods

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a perfect place to rest, to breath and go walking in beautiful woods, this is your Place. The cottage is lovely, perfect for a couple, everything you need is there, very clean and handy, so that you feel in your own home very quickly..My fav items: sitting in the couch and just looking at the beautiful view of this huge garden surrounded by some green woods with this tall trees, much better than any movie (priceless), the windows at night, just above your bed, where you can see the stars from your bed, just before getting a deep sleep.. Hope I will get back!

Beautiful rural location

  • 4 of 5

Carl & Belinda (Hosts) really helpful and property setting is idyllic. Kitchen is modern and sofa is comfortable. Upstairs may be a little challenging if you're tall but not excessively so and if the weather is going to be hot then ask Carl & Belinda for a fan as you'll need it at night. Pool is a reasonable size so you can swim rather than just float. The Wif-Fi is effective for web surfing, even outside the property, but don't expect to be streaming endless NetFlix movies. Hazel cottage is not a large property but ideal for a couple who just want to get away from it all. We had a lovely week and thoroughly enjoyed it.
