About verity elston

Hi my name is Verity and my husband is called Lee we have two children Josh aged 14, Kezia aged 12 and Macy the dog.

Lee has lived in Minehead all his life and I was brought up on Exmoor with my family who ran a successful Holiday Cottage business with 4 holiday cottages.

When we found 1 The Cross we knew instantly with a bit of love it would make the perfect holiday cottage for people to enjoy all year round.

We have made every effort to make the cottage the perfect base for your stay and we hope you love it as much as we do.

We know that when you go on holiday you don't want to be taking the essentials with you! so provided for your stay are all the boring basic essentials that you will need for your stay so you can get on with having fun! x

verity elston purchased this cottage in 2014

Why verity elston chose Minehead

We live just down the road and think its such a beautiful part of Minehead to live, we enjoy taking our dog Macy for long walks around North Hill.

What makes this cottage unique

It's such a peaceful setting its perfect for a relaxing holiday and being located in the "old town" of minehead it is steeped in history with the historic St Michaels church and Church steps being on the cottages doorstep it really makes you stop and think what it would of been like many hundred of years ago.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I stayed for a long weekend that wasn't long enough as we didnt want to leave the cottage. Its beautiful inside and out. Both bedrooms are a delight to sleep in, one being ensuite shower. There is also a lovely downstairs bathroom with a bath. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and the kitchen and contents could not be faulted. The decor has been well thought out and is very cosy, the lounge through to the kitchen is granite slabs.. The garden is set with furniture, plants and lawn and probably great for a lazy evening in the summer. The cottage is elevated near the church with lovely views. We did not have a car but there is on street parking at a premium. We ourselves walked down and back uphill into town every day. If at the age of 67 and 77 we can walk it, then so could plenty of younger ones! Verity, the owner, saved the day when we departed as I locked my handbag in the cottage and she very kindly came down to let me back in. A beautiful cottage that I would highly recommended.

A beautiful cottage that has everything for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we walked into the cottage it felt so homely and welcoming. We felt relaxed as soon as we got there. The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard and everything that you need for a family holiday is in the cottage.

As a family we loved the patio, which has a large table and chairs on it. Due to the lovely weather we made use of it and sat out having breakfast most mornings. We also sat out there every afternoon enjoying tea and biscuits.

As a family we would highly recommend the cottage and it made it even more special as we were able to take our family dog. He loved the garden and was able to find some much needed shade when required.

We would like to thank Verity for being a great host and leaving a welcome basket including milk for us. It was also lovely that Verity came to introduce herself to us and made sure that we had everything we need.

I will definitely be recommending the cottage to friends and family and hopefully will have the opportunity to return in the future.

Charming cottage in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We’ve stayed in many cottages over the last few years and I have to say this was the best. The cottage is lovely, very well equipped and an en-suite which is unusual for this type of cottage. The garden is lovely and you can see a floodlit St Michael’s Church at night. This part of Somerset is beautiful with walks very close to the cottage. We also walked to Dunster and back. Everywhere is dog friendly. We drove to Porlock & Lynmouth and took the steam train to Watchet. Verity was very helpful and also it’s nice to actually chat to the owner and get recommendations on where to visit. I thoroughly recommend a stay there as you won’t be disappointed.

Great cottage for the 4 adults

  • 5 of 5

Lovely clean and well equipped cottage and we enjoyed the treats left for us. We had to bring one of the outside chairs in so the four of us could site in the lounge (all adults), but apart from that everything was great. Comfortable bed, nice compact en-suite and a good workable Kitchen area. Hope to return oneday

Wonderful home away from home, in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed multiple times in the cottage and everything has always been perfect. The furnishings are to a high standard and the cottage is always spotless. Even in the winter the cottage is lovely and warm. We know Minehead well, having visited for many years, and it would be difficult to find a better place to stay in a better location, so we are glad to have found this gem. Verity is brilliant and always there if you need anything, nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommended.
