Holiday Cottage in the Centre of Arundel

Overview

Property

Updated: 07-Dec-2016
Beautiful cottage in Arundel centre, West Sussex, England

The cottage is located right in the centre of Arundel off the best street in Arundel which is bursting with antique shops, art galleries and cafes (Tarrant Street). The cottage is light and airy with a lovely holiday feel.

The living room has a one large sofa and a love seat, a table which seats up to 6, wooden floors and high ceilings. The open plan kitchen opens onto a small terrace and bbq area with seating and sun chairs.

The master bedroom is large and comfortable with wooden floors and a super king-size bed, sofa, cupboard and en-suite bathroom. Bedroom 2 has a double bed and is on the ground floor. There is also a family bathroom on the ground floor with bath and integrated shower. There is a mezzanine sleeping area with 2 single beds which is a great hit with children and teenagers (however it is not suitable for under 9's as the stairs are very steep).

Please note that linen is not included but can be provided at £10 per head which includes sheets, towels, duvet covers, t towels, bathmats and your beds made up for you.

Well behaved dogs are welcome with permission but are not allowed on the furniture or upstairs. There is a fixed fee of £20 per dog for your stay.

Please note that payment via the Owners Direct site can be made by debit or credit card but if you would like to book direct I take bank transfers from UK bank accounts. If you would prefer to do this please give me a ring or email me with your full name and address to prepare the direct booking paperwork (this also saves you the 6% handling fee charged by Owners Direct).

Arundel is a tiny market town 49 miles from London near the sea on the South Coast of England.

Arundel Castle, which regularly hosts exciting jousting tournaments and days of historical interest for all the family, is a wonderful place to visit with tours around the castle including beautiful walled gardens. There is a museum by the main entrance to the Castle and the imposing Arundel Cathedral to visit.

Whether you enjoy a gentle stroll or are a seasoned hiker there are breath-taking walks through Arundel Park which begin at the top the hill in town and go on for miles over the South Downs.

At Swanbourne Lake, Mill Lane, you can hire rowing boats or visit the Arundel Wetland Centre which has a multitude of bird wildlife www.wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/arundel. There is also mini golf, bowling and tennis in Mill Road near the Castle main gates. If you enjoy swimming the Lido is on Queen Street or for horse riding Arundel Riding Centre is in Park Place. You can take a leisurely boat trip from the bridge in Mill Lane in Arundel Centre or just sit in one of the cafes overlooking the water and watch the world go by.

Arundel has some wonderful festivals including the vibrant Arundel Festival and Art Trail in August and the romantic Arundel by Candlelight in December.

Arundel is very small and intimate: you don’t even need to get in the car as nowhere in town is further than about 10 minutes walk! There are fantastic antique shops all over town and many restaurants, cafes and one-off boutiques.

AROUND ARUNDEL

If you are looking for a little culture Petworth Park is home to the National Trust’s finest art collection and a vast deerpark landscaped by Capability Brown. There are Roman villas at Bignor and Fishbourne or the Weald & Downland Outdoor Museum which has historic houses and buildings from the 13th Century to Victorian times for you to explore. For the more mechanically minded Amberley Working Museum is a great step back in time.

Goodwood is a huge draw to the area and their special events include Glorious Goodwood, The Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival. Fontwell Racecourse is even closer to Arundel town for regular jump race meetings.

For afternoon/evening entertainment Chichester Festival Theatre and the Minerva Theatre has a wealth of highly acclaimed plays. In Portsmouth there is a huge historic dockyard where you can go aboard old warships and ships dating back to 16th Century. From Portsmouth you can also take a hovercraft over to the Isle of Wight. For a great day out shopping and to soak up the atmosphere Brighton is a large and vibrant town.

There are many beaches in the area if you are looking for a seaside break - the closest is Clymping approximately 10 minutes away by car and there is also West Beach, Littlehampton and Middleton to be visited. Most of the beaches in this area are part sand part stony but if you prefer miles of white sandy beach and sand dunes you can head up to West Wittering.

Great property in a great location

  • 5 of 5

The property itself was great: bright, spacious, comfortable. The location within Arundel was perfect. The parking outside would not be for everyone but suited us fine. The only problem was the OwnersDirect booking system which seems to be designed to put people off using it.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your very kind review I really appreciate it and I totally agree that the new OD system needs to be simplified to make it easier for guests to use.

Perfect Location for West Sussex Travel

  • 5 of 5

We rented the cottage for 3 weeks in the fall of 2015. Had such a wonderful time and were able to invite our UK friends from Southern UK to visit us. The location was perfect for our walkabouts in Arundel, and close to many of the places we wanted to revisit from the time we lived there. We rented a car, but never had to drive anywhere since the village was so convenient. Parking could have been a problem since the street the cottage is on is very narrow. But the neighbors made us welcome and specifically pointed out a place we could park at the cottage at all times. Be sure to check out the Kings Arms Pub across the lane for friendly drinks and conversation. We were made to feel very welcome. The owners are superb and very available to answer questions and sort things out. It was a special stay in a special place.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful town!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with friends for three days and it was lovely! Having an open-plan living space was great for the evenings and the bedrooms and bathrooms were really well laid out with nice details - the whole design was beautifully done and well-maintained. The Studio is in a great location in Arundel, making it very easy to explore this interesting town. A wonderful experience!

So good we returned to take another few weeks!

  • 5 of 5

A perfect location right in the heart of Arundel offering a well equipped and cosy accommodation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here; in fact, so much so that we returned for a second holiday within just a few months.

Most importantly, the host is absolutely fabulous and nothing is too much trouble for Laura. Her ultimate aim is to ensure you have the most amazing holiday possible. Thank you so much for everything.
