Panoramic, cozy and elegant apartment in Bonassola (next to 5Terre) Panoramic Views Of BonassolaBay And Village,10Min By Train From 5Terre
“La Gabbianella” (Seagull) Is a very bright and quiet apartment at 50 meters from the beach of Bonassola, a really beautiful small Ligurian village on the edge of the famous “5 Terre” district. The little village of Bonassola is a pearl of the Italian Ligurian Riviera, has been a famous italian high quality touristic destination for more than a century, not only for its beauty but also because everything is very well organized with restaurants,shops,ATM,Pharmacy..and of course the beach…all within walking distance. The great part of the village is pedestrian area, perfect for children and walking tourism.
The flat is at the 4th and last floor of a 1700 Ligurian typical house;there’s no lift but the stairwell is large and the slate steps are not too high as usually are in Liguria(because there’s not enough land to build on and so the houses are narrow and attached to one another). The entrance is in the wide and comfortable living room, that as soon as you enter it makes you feel like in your own beach house!! Everywhere inside the house you’ll find beautiful and original sailors’/nautical decorations, white“shabby chic”furniture, shells and white and blue nice objects. In the living area, in front of two French windows that make the room very bright, there are two comfortable sofas(from which you can relax and getting a view out to sea) and a very unique wooden boat used as small table, behind, a big dining table (12 people seats). You can notice is a very classic and traditional house from the ancient timber on the ceiling that was the main mast of a tall ship owned by the owner’s great-great grandfather, and from the original (now) almost unique ceramic and graniglia floor. Next to the living room there’s another very nice and peaceful living area with a panoramic balcony with views of the village and of the sea; from the balcony you can simply enjoy the panorama, or having breakfast under a awning’s shade, or relax and get tanned while reading a book. Wide and bright living room with two French windows from which you can see almost all the village’s roofs and the Mediterranean pine forest that surrounds Bonassola. The house has 3 bedrooms, two with king side bed and one with two bunk beds; the kitchen has a very nice view of a beautiful church and of Italian gardens with flowers, cypress, lemon and olives trees, it’s a eat-in fully furnished kitchen with a 6/8 pax table.
About Bonassola: Bonassola is a paradise where you can relax and enjoy the healthy air resulting from the luxuriant Mediterranean scrub which surrounds the village. A very peaceful tourist resort. Built before the XIth century by Tigullian people, Bonassola has a very interesting past: in the XVIth cent the first Italian social security was created there, with the pourpose to free Turkish pirate's prisoners. The history of Bonassola has always been closely bound to the relationship between the people and the sea: in the XIXth cent Bonassola had an important sailing ship fleet, and the inhabitants found wealth and success through trade and shipping. The most important monuments are the Castle and the Tower of Arduiner Dynasty(XVIth cent), St.Caterina'sChurch and Matteo Vinzoni's house(XVIIth cent). The high coast of East Liguria is sometimes interrupted by little beaches; one of the most suggestive is the one of Bonassola closed by two rock promontories: La Punta del Carlino and the one of La Madonnina della Punta, covered by Mediterranean bushes. The village of Bonassola is just behind this beach, in the little plain before the Ligurian Appenine. The transparent sea and the mountains, separated by a narrow land where Bonassola lies with all its characteristic houses and old streets far away from the phrenetic life style of modern towns; The countryside of Bonassola is the perfect environment for the wide assortment of typical flowers and fruits of the Mediterranean area: oleanders, bouganvillea, brooms, olive and pine tree, aromatic herbs and citrus fruit. The exceptional cleanliness of the air in Bonassola is due to the resinous richness of pine, to the ozonized atmosphere and to very small particles of iodine coming from a very pure sea. Its climate is recommended to people suffering from heart and breathing organ troubles, or affected with digestive tract diseases, or nervous troubles.
Activities to do around Bonassola: HIKING:Who loves nature and looks with interest and sensibility at the landscape, will certainly notice the beauty and rarity of Bonassola. If you take a really good look at this beautiful mix of see and land, you will definitely see the endless particularities it offers:The"Parco delle Cinque Terre" and the "Parco di Portofino" are our land borders.Bonassola offers more than 40 Km of paths, indicated and accompanied by excellent maps and road signs, allowing people to get to know all the magnificent panoramic views of our little community. We are connected with the "Cinque Terre" by a wide range of path and we also offer the possibility of connection with the "Altavia dei Monti Liguri" which crosses all of Liguria(400 km along the Ligurian Apennines between Ventimiglia and Sarzana 43 stages among snow-clad peaks and the blue of the sea).A level path anyone can face, with a view of the sea. Then if to your bike ride you want to add a bathe in the sea,the Levanto-Bonassola-Framura cycle path is the one for you.The path links three villages: 5 kilometres with breath taking views, set up along the old railway line that passed a few metres above the sea.The tunnels have been restored and lit up;there are apertures and balconies in line with the most beautiful views.Along the path it is possible to access beaches and hidden little bays otherwise only attainable by sea.One of the most enchanting cycle tracks in Liguria. Recommended for everybody!
BOAT RIDE along the coast:Traveling by boat along the coast gives you the possibility to appreciate the natural beauty of the Ligurian sea and panorama from a completely different perspective. We can suggest you boat rental companies near Bonassola, renting a boat will give you the opportunity to discover the coast with its hidden and inaccessible inlets(such as:“Grotta Azzurra” in Bonassola,an hidden grotto where you can get inside only during periods of low tide discovering the small beach that‘s hidden inside, with the rays of the sun, filtering and reflecting on the dome inside the cave, recreate romantic blue effects),admire the Cinque Terre’s small towns, go to PortoVenere or its islands(Palmaria,Tino and Tinetto) visit Portofino,or simply experience your vacation in freedom.
DIVING:Diving lovers, but also those who have decided to approach this sport for the first time, are spoilt for choice.Diving centres allow the scuba divers to dive anywhere in Liguria. Equipped boats and equipment to hire are at the top of range to guarantee the visitor safety and fun. Something curious and interesting for experts is an opportunity to dive in search of the many wrecks and in the marine and nature parks. The symbol of Liguria diving is the Christ of the Abysses, the statue placed underwater off San Fruttuoso di Camogli, the Mecca of scuba divers. The statue was placed in the water on 22August1954 at approximately 17metres depth, and it’s 2.5metres tall.
SURFING:It is an error speaking of wave surfing and thinking only about the Ocean. In the Mediterranean Sea there are plenty of locations and Liguria has gone through a real boom:from October to April the biggest and most beautiful waves form.Along the arc of the coast there are ideal places to take the waves and be able to surf. The most famous are Levanto and Sanremo, but Recco,Varazze and Diano Marina are also ideal. In these places lovers of the sport have installed a network of webcams that directly communicate whether the moment to load the board in the car and set out has come or not.Alongside the waves suited for those who want to learn, big and difficult waves are there for experts.
WHALE WATCHING:The unique emotion of sighting the sinuous outline of a dolphin or the puff of a rorqual in Liguria is also possible. We are in the heart of the Cetacean Sanctuary, an international marine reserve that links the French Riviera, Liguria, Corsica and Tuscany, where there are frequent sightings of sperm whales. There are a lot of boaters that, from spring to autumn, offer this magic experience together with a marine biologist. Boats set out from Genoa,Camogli,Andora,Laigueglia,Imperia,Loano,Savona and Varazze. ADVENTURE PARK:Not far from Sestri Levante’s beach, both children and adults can spend an exciting day with fun and adventures, totally surrounded by nature.

About the Owner
Hello,I am Renata Pendibene Odicini the owner of “La Gabbianella”.
The entire building is property of my family since 1700.The Pendibene family were, from generations, sailors and sailing ships owners (The timber in the living room was the main mast of a tall ship owned by my greatgrandfather).
With the help of my husband Roberto,we restored part of the building and our apartment. Roberto,my two sons and I,we live in Piedmont,Lerma (2hours driving from Bonassola) where we own and manage our Winery and Restaurant “LaCasanella” ( www.lacasanella.com). At “La Casanella” we can organize for you wine tasting and dinners and you’ll taste traditional Piedmont and Ligurian products. Inside“La Gabbianella”you’ll find brochures that will show you all the wines we produce and that you can buy and taste directly in the apartment ( Upon request).
Carlotta purchased this apartment in 1700
Why Carlotta chose La Spezia
I come to Bonassola since I was a child and I have many nice memories of this place.
I still love this place all the year round!!!
What makes this apartment unique
Bonassola is a family-size village, the perfect place to come to if you need to take a break from the stress of the city, without traffic and with a big pedestrian area and a well-equipped beach, a little paradise for children. It’s the ideal accommodation for exploring Cinque Terre, here you’ll enjoy the convenience and proximity to the 5 famous villages, but without running in the confusion of too many tourists often flock to the area.
I love this village all the year round!!!!
My house is 50 meters from the beach, I usually reach the beach just wearing bathing suit and flip flops!!!
Almost all the village is pedestrian and very safe for children/teenagers!!!

Good apartment, great location,
Enjoyed a good week - only negative was climbing 80+ steps to get to 4th floor.
We had a lovely vacation in Bonasola, which is a quiet place with lovely restaurants. The apartment was perfect and the owners were very friendly. The apartment is in the middle of the small village and you have a walking distance to everything. There is a perfect walking jogging path to Levanto which is a larger village than Bonasola. We absolutely loved our vacation in Bonasola
Fabulous week in Bonnasola. A small beach town tucked into the hills with plenty of good food, ice cream (!) and sunshine.
The apartment was great and very comfortable. It has 85 stairs which worked off the evening meal!
Cycling along the route to Levanto for dinner, taking the train to Cinque Terre for the day - all very easy and well worth the time.
We would probably arrive by train next time as no need for the car - all very straightforward.
great apartment perfect location
Bonassola is a small beach resort with a very local vibe.Having arrived in Bonassolla by train it was only a short walk to the apartment from the station. We were greeted by our host and family on arrival , although they had very little english it wasnt much of a problem. The apartment was well equipped with all the comforts of home and more.Beautiful views of the sea from the balcony and the kitchen had views of the mountains.Everything was so convenient, the local shop/ market was just at the end of the street on the corner, the bank and pharmacy the next street away. Also it was great having the beach just a stroll away.Although Bonassola is not part of the Cinque terre its a good base to visit the area which are well served by train. From Bonassola you go to the next stop which is Levante and this station is the main connection to all of Cinque terre and where you get your passes for trains and trails. There also is a bike and pedestrian walk through old train line tunnel (not all covered in so there are views)which takes about 20mins from Bonassolla to Levante.
The only negatives about staying in this apartment would be the trains are not so regular to and from Bonassola. They run regularly enough between Levante and 5terre villages but we were stuck an hour once or twice in Levante waiting for train to Bonassola,so always check the full journey before getting a train. It also was a problem leaving also as there was no early train to Levante to get a direct train to Pisa where we were taking our flight home. However our host kindly organized a taxi for us.
Another thing to be aware of is the stairs to the apartment which is at the top of the building...there are 87 of them!So not so good if you have heavy luggage or if your not so agile!
I will also caution families with small children as there are lots of delicate decorations and ornaments in the apartment (which does add to the character) and i think this is why there is a large cash deposit to be paid on arrival which is understandable.
All said i would recommend this apartment and we really enjoyed our time there.
Charming apartment in beautiful location
Having been to the Cinque Terre, I hesitate to describe the yet undiscovered jewel that is Bonassola. The apartment was exceeding clean and comfortable for 3 adults and 3 children. The view was impeccable and the location was perfect for exploring all that Bonassola has to offer. The owners, who do not speak English, and their representative who does were all perfectly helpful and accommodating. The water is visible from the terrace and the beach is quite nice. There are great gelaterie, restaurants, pasta makers and grocery stores all within at most a five-minute walk. We rented a traditional Ligurian fishing boat and enjoyed CT much more from the Mediterranean. We loved walking to different villages using the old train tunnels set aside for pedestrians and bike riders.
The washing machine was the smallest I'd ever seen and the apartment was up 4 flights of stairs--both of these factors might be weighed more carefully by those with smaller children. This is a very Italian resort--we only heard English spoken once all week, and no other languages other than Italian and Genovese dialect so it was very helpful to have an Italian speaker in our party. Also I definitely would not rent a car but arrive by train next time. The mountain roads are treacherous and the train station is right in town a short distance from the apartment. We'd love to return some day, our week in Bonassola was a major highlight of an extended summer vacation.

From TurismoinLiguria.it: Bonassola is a family-size village.Perfect for those who want to be calm.Without traffic, with a big pedestrian area and a well-equipped beach and a little paradise for children. The sea that fills the bay with crystalline waters is like the embrace of a big brother. It encloses Bonassola between two promontories,Punta del Carlino and the promontory of Madonnina della Punta, hidden in a line of coast of typical Mediterranean maquis with oleanders, brooms and pines. It is exciting to get to Bonassola on a bike following the cycle path from Levanto or from Framura. You pedal along the promenade, which opens up in a dominant position over the beach giving a view from above.
