Old Malmsey is a Grade 2 listed house in the centre of the Conservation area of Deal. Just a 2 minute walk from the beach yet in a convenient location for the town centre. It has a homely and comfortable living room with an open fire and two sofas with HD television. This leads to a kitchen/dining room which in turn leads to a sunroom and out into the walled garden which is a sun trap. Here there is a side entrance to the garden and a BBQ and seating area. The stairs to the first floor lead from the living room but typical to this period of house, are fairly steep. On the first floor is a bedroom with a king size bed. There is room for a cot bed in here if needed. From the landing are steps down to the bathroom, and also steps up to the second floor. Here there is a bedroom with two single sleigh beds and also a single bedroom. This house is well equipped and comfortable and DVDs and board games are available for rainy days as is free wi fi. Travel cot and highchair can be provided. House is centrally heated.

Check-in time is 15.00 on day of arrival and departure time is 10.00 although I will try to be as flexible as possible.

Lovely Cosy cottage with afternoon sun trap in the conservatory.

Beautiful property far surpassing expectations!

We stayed at Old Malmsey as a family of 4 ranging from 26 to 74(ish) and having rented a similar property previously, were extremely pleased with the level of the accommodation. The house is extremely comfortable and is beautifully decorated; my mother was set to move in for good and my grandmother compiled a photo album full of design ideas to take back home (honestly, there's no exaggeration in that).

The house is in a fantastic location two minutes walk, if that, away from both the seafront, the high street and perhaps most importantly, the best fish and chip shop in the town. The street itself is full of history and there's a great book in the kitchen that tells you all about the town's fascinating history so keep an eye out for that. The house also comes equip with cable TV and plenty of DVDs and games to keep all ages entertained. Communication with Moira was fantastic; on the morning we set out we were warned to avoid certain roads due to excessive traffic even in spite of the fact that she was out of the country! Needless to say we were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay.

Beautifully appointed. Perfectly Charming.

Our family of 5 stayed nearly 3 weeks in this lovely home, which truly became a home away from home. The conservatory and garden are wonderful with the church spires in view. The family-style kitchen is large and well-equipped to prepare fresh and delicious local finds, and the well-stocked games and movie cupboards are a hit with the entire family. The picture-perfect street is the ideal location with the town's High Street one street behind and the sea one street before, and it is quite easy to walk to pretty much everything one needs. The bedrooms and bath are luxurious, and it is quite evident the owner has placed much care in considering all the senses throughout the property. Perhaps the property's best "amenity" of all is its personable and gracious hostess. She is the excellent! I cannot thank you enough, Moira, for exceeding our expectations and helping with our stay in England.

Gorgeous house in great location

The house is full of character, very tastefully decorated and furnished, and very cosy, welcoming and well-maintained. It is very well-equipped throughout, particularly the kitchen, and exceeds expectations gained from the website. Especially cosy is the working open fireplace in the living room. Middle Street is very attractive and full of a sense of history. It's also just round the corner from the seafront, so the location is fabulous. Our family of four (two adults and two children) really enjoyed our stay in Deal, and felt very at home in the property. We recommend Deal Castle, Dover Castle, and the pool at Tides Leisure Centre is fabulous for the kids on a rainy afternoon. We also loved browsing the quirky shops on the high street. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly and we would very highly recommend a stay in Deal at this property.

Perfect family Christmas holiday !

Firstly, the booking process was very smooth and my contact with Moira has been lovely.

When we reached the house we were blown away by the special Christmas touches that had been left for us... Beautiful Christmas tree, lights, decorations, and practical items such as turkey tin and Christmas tea towels!

The house is located along a road full of houses oozing character and history. The comfy lounge with an open fire is great and even though it was unseasonably warm we did light the fire as we'd promised our daughters that they could toast marshmallows and make 'smores' this was definitely a hit!

The kitchen is extremely well equipped - plenty of crockery,glassware and cutlery . It's a great kitchen for families and we enjoyed our mealtimes. The sun room off the kitchen is very light and airy and we did sit out in there for a while although it was a little cooler than the rest of the house as you'd expect in December!

The WIFI works perfectly - no dead spots even over 3 floors!

The first floor bedroom is beautiful - with a very comfortable bed and period furniture. The bathroom is down a few stairs which take a little getting used to but once again in great condition and perfect for the family.

The two bedrooms on the top floor were tastefully decorated with plenty of storage and perfect for our girls aged 10 and 13.

Our entire holiday was fantastic and we felt very much at home in this beautiful house.

Moira is a fabulous host and her kindness and thoughtfulness is very much appreciated. We have rented many holiday properties over the years and this is undoubtedly the best we have stayed in - beautiful, practical and homely.

We would like to return in the Summer to experience more that Deal has to offer.

Absolutely lovely !

This is an absolutely lovely house, really comfortable and welcoming, very well equipped and maintained, clean and beautifully decorated. It is also in an ideal location - everywhere you want to go being only a few minutes walk away (including The Ship Inn !!) We so enjoyed our stay as did our dog Vera - it is great to find such a lovely place that is also "pet friendly". Moira, the owner, was a joy to do business with and couldn't have been more helpful. We can't wait to go back ! Linda.

Special interest holidays:

This is a great area for cycling and golfing. Deal and Walmer castles are within walking distance and Dover castle a 15 minute drive away above Dover.

Coast/Beach:

Property is a two minute walk to the beach. Ideal to carry that tray of tea for afternoon tea or that gin and tonic as the sun goes down.

Deal has a lovely seafront promenade and is a pebble beach, typical to the south coast. There is a 1950's pier, noted as being as long as the Titanic, often used by fishermen.

Travel:

By car from Deal - Dover 8.5 miles/14km. Frequent ferries to France (1hr. 30m).

Channel Tunnel to France (35 minutes).

London -A20/M20 81 miles/131 km (1hr .30m).

Gatwick Airport - M20 89miles/143km (1hr .30m).

London Heathrow Airport - M25/M20 113miles/183km (2hrs).

Deal - St Pancras Station London HS1 - High Speed Service (1hr.20m).

Distances:

Once you are in Deal you can just leave the car as the town, shops and restaurants are easily accessible by foot. Canterbury 18 miles. Dover 9 miles. Sandwich 6 miles. Ramsgate 14 miles. Whitstable 28 miles.

Further Details:

Deal won the title of the Daily Telegraph's High Street of the Year 2013. There's plenty to do for visitors of all ages.The town centre is pedestrianised and most of the town is on the flat.

Deal has a quarter mile long pier that gives great views along the historic beachfront. The pier head restaurant has a timber and glass construction with fantastic views.

If you fancy a meal there are many pubs to suit all tastes from traditional to modern as well as restaurants offering English, French, Thai, Chinese and Indian cuisine. There is also a wide range of cafes and bistros plus plenty of sandwich bars and fast food take aways.

There are excellent pubs in and around Deal, from Kingsdown to Sandwich. Good fish and chip shops and an ice cream parlour on the seafront. Just one amusement arcade to spend those pennies.

In Walmer there is a kiddies paddling pool (open May - September) with an on-site cafe.

There is a large Sainsburys supermarket in the town and also M&S and the Coop but also small independent shops, such as a fishmonger, organic butchers, cheesemonger, excellent bakers.

There are a great many fantastic golf courses in and around Deal. There is the 18 hole Championship Links golf course 'Royal Cinque Ports', about a 5 minute drive away. The 'Royal St George's' at Sandwich which hosted the Open Championship in 2011 is no more than a 10 minute drive through the Sandwich Bay Estate (fee payable). Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Club situated high up on the White Cliffs.
