Beautiful contemporary cottage overlooking courtyard with large walnut tree. Private and peaceful, and plenty of parking

The cottage is situated in the tiny hamlet of Blendworth in the South Downs National Park, between Horndean and Rowlands Castle. It is newly restored and fully equipped for self-catering. The vaulted living spaces gives it a stunning wow factor! We leave a hamper of basics and fresh flowers to welcome our guests and get them started. It has its own terrace with fragrant herb-filled raised borders.and faces a charming sunny courtyard with a walnut tree and a vine-clad pergola with a large table and chairs for alfresco dining. There is spectacular walking on the South Downs Way and some of the best cycling on and off road straight off the doorstep! Extensive gardens and a private tennis court available by arrangement sieth the owners.

About Sally Lang

Sally and Richard have lived in the farmhouse for nearly 30 years. We converted this old farm building into an enchanting holiday cottage two years ago. Since then we have had 5 star reviews from everyone who has stayed here. We look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful part of Hampshire so you can discover for yourself how wonderful it is!

Why Sally Lang chose East Hampshire

We love this tranquil rural location. It is near the coast and yet so close to Chichester, Portsmouth, Winchester, Petersfield and all the sporting and cultural activities that take place in this part of the country. There is masses to see and do.

We are only an hour from London, so ideal for a long weekend break.

What makes this cottage unique

You could spend a cosy winter weekend walking and curled up reading by the fire, or in the summer you could explore local beaches and try watersports. You could play golf at one of half a dozen spectacular courses. There is spectacular scenery and walking on the South Downs Way. There are some of the most beautiful cycle routes on and off road right from our doorstep. You could bring your paints and find some stunning subject matter in the landscape, or you could go birdwatching in Pagham. You could check out the local historical sites, or visit modern art galleries and sculpture parks in Chichester and Winchester.

There is so much to do locally, that it is difficult to list it all here. We have created a 'house book' which is full of ideas of places to go, and things to do.

There are lots of local pubs and restaurants if you don't want to cook!

“This was a great place for the four of us to stay! Beforehand, Sally had been very helpful in making sure our stay was going to be well organised and helped us with arrangements for our dog whilst we were out for one of the the days. She found a local dog walker for a small fee. She helped us with local knowledge so that we could organise our itinerary and get the most of our visit. The house was immaculate when we arrived and there were plenty of little touches to make sure we felt welcome. She had gone to a lot of trouble to make sure everything was clean and just right. The welcome food basket of provisions was highly appreciated. Beds were very comfortable and furniture in the lounge cosy. Sally lives on site and made sure she was available if we needed help. The extensive grounds are for the use of guests as well and the local setting is beautiful. We really enjoyed our short stay and would have no hesitation going back. Thank you Sally!”

Outside: The cottage has a private terrace with a barbecue and a table and four chairs. There is also a garden bench. There is a lawn next to the terrace for the enjoyment of guests. We have a hard tennis court for use by arrangement and a summerhouse where we can set up croquet or badminton for guests' enjoyment. Utility Room: The large cupboard under the stairs holds cleaning equipment at one end, including iron and ironing board and wastebin for recycling materials. The other end has coathooks and space for suitcases, tennis raquets, boots and wellies etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are all provided. There are also white towelling dressing gowns and slippers. There is a hair dryer in each bedroom, and a bedside clock/radio. Change over day is Friday when we give it a thorough spring clean.

Stunning country charm

We have just returned to Australia after a 3 week stay at the beautiful Lavender Cottage. Needing a bolt hole for our trip visiting family we booked the cottage on a recommendation and it turned out to be a real home away from home.

Sally and Richard are superb hosts, and they have really nailed the country cottage charm in this property. It was warm and cozy, and the extra touches such as the generously decadent welcome hamper, bathrobes, and freshly baked cakes gave it a really luxurious feel.

Our visit was hampered by illness and it was such a comfort to be staying somewhere so homely - thank you Sally and Richard for being so accommodating when we needed to extend our stay and for checking in to see how everyone was doing! The girls had an absolute blast exploring the gardens and playing on the slide - this is a wonderful property for both children and grown ups.

The surrounding area is just stunning and there are so many amazing country pubs, bike rides and long walks to be done. I will definitely be booking again when we are next in the UK - we can't wait to return.

Great property, superb location off A3M, great access locally, superb hosts

Had a great vacation. Only 4 days. Superb hosts - came to see us daily. Large welcoming hamper of local food. Property in excellent condition. Fully stocked. Location was ideal for the South Downs and Wittering beaches. Quiet. Peaceful. Charming and most helpful host and hostess. We will return. Superb value for an immaculate cottage. Thank you.

The Langs have created a beautiful cottage with careful thought given to every detail.

My wife and I took our heavily pregnant daughter and her husband to Lavender cottage for a four day pre-natal holiday. We couldn't have chosen better.

The Langs are amazing hosts victualing the fridge and larder with an array of locally sourced food (virtually enough for afternoon tea, supper and a cooked breakfast!) and a bottle of wine. The cottage has everything and more than one could possible want. We noted from the Visitors Book that some lucky guests have stayed for more than a month.

The cottage is perfectly situated for the many activities in the region - hiking on the South Downs, nearby National Trust properties, glorious beaches, the naval museums of Portsmouth, the cultural activities of historic Chichester - not to mention the many excellent pubs and restaurants.

We found Lavender Cottage through Sawdays and have to say it surpassed even that publication's extremely high standards.

A lovely cottage with good facilities.

We enjoyed our short stay and would highly recommend to all. The various produce was much appreciated and made things easier than having to go shopping on arrival – how did you know we were bringing Italian meatballs and would need the tagliatelle or that my favourite breakfast is honey on toast?

Wonderful south coast beaches. Hayling Island, West and East Wittering and Southsea, all within half an hour. Also bird-watching at Pagham.


Southampton Airport is about 25 minutes. Gatwick an hour and a quarter. Heathrow about the same. A car is essential.


We are situated in the South Downs National Park. Portsmouth is about 20 minutes driving, Chichester about 20 minutes, Petersfield 15 minutes. Winchester 35 minutes, Southampton half an hour.

Further Details:

There are local shops and a large Morrisons supermarket in Horndean about 2 miles away. There are numerous country pubs in the area. Petersfield has a monthly farmers market.

We are in an ideal location for walking, rambling or cycling. There is plenty of parking space, and space to store bicycles. We can provide tennis racquets and balls, croquet and badminton.
