A substantial family home with five bedrooms all are en suite with either bath and/or shower this family home has three lounges with plasma screen TVs, a full sky package and Wi-Fi throughout the property. Three lounges and two dining rooms give families and groups plenty of space to either spread out or join communally for entertainment. The downstairs area comprises of one of the lounges with settees, table football and has a bedroom, dressing room and corner bath with shower over as the en-suite. Almost a self contained flat in it's own right. Off road parking for three cars and a secluded garden with two seating areas make this a great house for a family holiday. Short breaks may be available outside the high season. Please enquire. The owners daughter have a dog that visits the house from time to time. Why Ken Burchill chose Bowness-on-Windermere

We bought the house in 2001 when only ourselves and our three children lived here and we were running the hotel just below the house so it was very convenient. As our family grew with initially the addition of sons in law and then two grandchildren we built two extensions to accommodate us all in comfort. All the children and grandchildren have left home and we have semi retired so when we are not at home we let our house. It might seem strange to some people to let your home but we are well used to it with having been hoteliers all our lives although our major 'home' did have 80 bedrooms!

What makes this house unique

Clover Nook is right in the heart of the vibrant village of Bowness so when Dad wants a paper in the morning all he has to do is wander to the bottom of the hill to the newsagents. The climb back up might be good exercise! Due to its location the house is within walking distance of all huge variety of pubs and restaurants in the village so if you don't want to cook all week you will never be disappointed each night when you dine in one of our many excellent restaurants. We highly recommend Rastellis though you can eat your way around the world whilst here with the wealth of international restaurants and locally some of the best UK eateries at the moment, The Brown Horse at Winster and L'Enclume at Cartmell to name two

Notes on accommodation: Wood floors throughout the property with the exception of the kitchen which is slate tiled Outside: Secluded gated garden with a sloped lawn and two seating areas one of which is raised and fenced to get the most benefit from the summer sun. Parents of young children need to be aware that there is a small 1.5 metre deep garden pond next to the log store. A steel bridge links the dining area to the garden through a double door Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and Linen per person is included as is wood for the log burner. The property is serviced on your departure. Caretaker assistance close by Other: The large social kitchen links open plan to the main dining room with the old kitchen/dining room with Aga off on open plan also

Absolutely amazing house, with so much space for the huge family staying.

From start to finish this was a tremendous stay. The house had everything you could think of for cooking and entertaining a family of 12. There were even spare fold out beds which some friends and their children were able to squeeze into for New Year's night.

Every bedroom had it's own bathroom which was priceless when everyone was trying to get ready at once , or for hot showers/baths after long rainy walks!

The house is only a 10 minute walk from the beautiful Lake Windermere and is extremely convenient for all the local restaurants and pubs.

The owner was very friendly and helpful in the lead up to our stay providing every little detail we enquired about, including availability of cots and z-beds which he very kindly offered to have set up in their chosen rooms. He even met us at the house for check-in with the log burner lit in the largest of the living rooms. After a quick guided tour, it was ours to spread out and find all the nooks and crannies that would be the most amazing home for the week.

The only grumbles I could think of were the poor Wifi and lack of internet connection for the smart TV in the downstairs lounge due to the poor signal. Not a show stopper in any way, just a few huffs from the younger members of the party.

The whole place was immaculate, beautiful and we would all jump at the opportunity to stay here again.

Owner's Response: Hi Brenda Good to know you enjoyed the house and thank you for your kind comments. The house is at the end of a copper wire and until we get an optical service up the road the internet will suffer with volume due to demand at peak times. The smart TV downstairs does struggle at the end of the house internet but it has a full free-view service. I'll try another signal booster. Hopefully we'll be able to welcome you back to Clover Nook in the future Kind regards Ken

Our family get together was made possible and enjoyable by the location being a short walk , two minutes into the town center, and the comforts of the property in Bowness on Windermere. We would highly recommend this property because the rooms, being spacious, could cater for our large group; dining as well as relaxing. The property held everything that we needed, and in some cases even more. Thank You.

Bowness on Windermere is 123 miles from Manchester International Airport. Windermere train station links to the west coast main line at Oxenholme.

Car hire can be arranged through Enterprise in Kendal if required.

If you want to travel without your own vehicle there are plenty of reasonably priced taxis in the village. We also have the Mountain Goat Bus Company who do guided tours over the Lake District and National Park. Windermere Lake Cruises also provide a water bus service on Windermere.


Clover Nook is literally in the centre of Bowness village (though up a small hill) and benefits form close proximity to a wealth of Bars and Restaurants to cater for every taste. Bowness also has a three screen picture house. Clover Nook is 9 miles from Kendal our nearest major shopping centre and 20 miles from the M6

We have one supermarket in Windermere namely Booths though Tesco do a delivered service from Barrow that you can arrange in advance. There are three main banks in Windermere and Bowness but plenty of cash machines.

Of course being in Bowness we are in the Lake District National Park with all its benefits of lakes, mountains and outdoors Bowness,Windermere, is a holiday town, the largest in the Lake District National Park, situated on the shores of Lake Windermere. This town boasts hundreds of shops, eating and drinking establishments from tea rooms. Indians to Tapas Bars, it also has many fine cultural and historical attractions. The range of activities and things to do is immense walking and horse riding to water skiing and sailing or if you want to take things at a slower pace there are many visitor attractions to browse around. The lakeside town is popular with all ages, with a busy lakeshore at Bowness Bay. Many kinds of lake excursions can be made from here, from the hiring of rowing boats to sailing on the 'steamer' taking visitors further out across England's longest lake (almost 11 miles long). Elsewhere in Bowness visit the Steamboat Museum (when it reopens)Beatrix Potter and numerous galleries. Anideal base for also exploring the greater Lake District including the villages of Grasmere and Keswick and valleys such as Borrowdale and Newlands to the lakes of Ullswater, Thirlmere and Derwentwater
