House in Mortehoe, Nr. Woolacombe, North Devon, England - Peaceful Coastal Village Location

Belvedere provides the perfect coastal and rural retreat. Situated in a private lane, in the picturesque village of Mortehoe, in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With simply spectacular, uninterrupted sea views. Walk through the gate at the bottom of the garden directly onto National Trust land and the coastal path leading to the fabulous local beaches.

Rockham and Grunta are our favourite local beaches for rock-pooling and building beach BBQs.

Woolacombe Beach offers an expansive 3 miles of golden sand with a back drop of un-spoilt sand dunes. A favourite family holiday destination and a water-sports paradise. Voted best beach in the UK in 2016 and 5th best beach in Europe 2016. (Traveller's Choice Awards 2016).

Mortehoe is a charming, peaceful, picturesque village with 2 pubs, a post-office, a village store, a tea shop, a cafe, a fish and chip shop, a home-cooked food take-away, a church, a museum and a children's play park.

The perfect place for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

The perfect place for 10 of us of all ages to get together to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. A beautiful, clean, very well appointed property. A lot of thought had obviously been given to the layout of this spacious well equipped house (plenty of crockery, cutlery etc). A stunning position in a quiet cul de sac but near to many of Devon's attractions and beaches. The pretty village had all we needed - the take away selling 'home made' food was lovely as was the fish and chip shop where you could get fish ready for the BBQ and the local shop was surprisingly well stocked. Andrea was so thoughtful before we went making sure it was suitable for us and leaving dvds, books and toys suitable for the grandchildren. She left lots of information, made sure we had fun and was very understanding when we had a mishap with a lamp. The hot tub was a wonderful bonus after a day walking the lovely coast path. Everyone really enjoyed themselves - walking the coast path, rock pooling at Rockham, cycling the Tarka trail and much more. A really memorable holiday.

Stunning location, superb facilities

  • 5 of 5

Belvedere is an amazing house set in a stunning location. It is immaculately presented throughout. The ground floor is very spacious so, although we were ten in number, everyone was able to rest and relax in their own space. The kitchen is very well equipped which meant we could cook super meals and share them around a very substantial table. The extensive patio offered plenty of room for outside eating and the barbecue was an added bonus.

Although our party were all adults, children are very well catered for with both indoor and outdoor games provided.

The hot tub was a welcome treat after long walks along the coastal path.

The views out to sea were simply breathtaking.

The welcome pack was incredible.

We managed to accommodate 5 cars comfortably at the front of the property.

Nothing was too much trouble for our host – from the initial enquiry regarding booking the property, Andrea went out of her way to ensure that we were able to make the most of our stay.

I would unreservedly recommend this property to young and old alike.

Fabulous location, immaculate house.

  • 5 of 5

Belvedere is a fabulous, stylish holiday house and its location in Mortehoe is top-notch. From the pretty garden with enormous terrace (the photos don't do it justice), there is a gate leading straight on to the coast path and lovely cliff walks in both directions. Meanwile, from the front door, it is a short walk into the village centre with several pubs, tea room, take aways and well-stocked village shops. We were perfectly happy for our 10 year old daughter to pop out for the newspapers, croissants and pain au chocolats in the morning - lovely.

Whilst we were staying at Belvedere, we went surfing with Nick Thorn at Putsborough and body boarding there and at Croyde. We also went to Woolacombe where the waves happened to be very good but it was a lot busier and more commercialised on the beach itself.

We had excellent meals at the Chichester Arms in Mortehoe, the Rock Inn at Georgeham and the Sandleigh Tea Room at Croyde, but also made good use of the kitchen and barbeque at the house.

Andrea couldn't have been more helpful, giving us lots of relevant information and tips before the trip. The house itself was spotless, comfortable and extremely well-equipped. We would certainly like to stay there again and have no hesitation in recommending it for a luxury, relaxing break.

Spectacular house in a breathtaking location

  • 5 of 5

The photos on the website looked impressive enough when deciding on which property to book, however even they do not do this place justice.

The house was immaculate, very well fitted out and with everything you could possibly need for a week away. The patio at the back, the garden and the views were simply spectacular, the perfect setting for a summers BBQ. The "infinity" hot tub went down well too!

I would recommend anyone to come and stay and we will all most certainly be returning.

Amazing, fantastic, stunning, where do I stop!

  • 5 of 5

The property exceeded our expectations from the very start, from the very friendly and helpful lady to speak to with regards to the booking, and the outstanding house and facilities! Oh and don't forget the amazing view! We had a long weekend at the property and did not want to leave! So much to do and see, but it was the house the made it perfect! Well done and I would certainly recommend this to others without doubt! Thank you again.

Location

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Fabulous local beaches within easy walking distance:

Rockham beach 10 min walk down coastal path (not accessible by car). Great for rock-pooling and beach BBQ's. See if you can spot the rusted remains of the ship wreck!

Grunta beach 15 min walk down coastal path (not accessible by car)

Woolacombe beach 25 min walk down road, slightly longer if you take the coastal path or why not try the cross country path via Mortehoe village car park? 5 min drive, ample parking at beach.

Distances:

Belvedere is located in the village of Mortehoe.

25 minute walk to Woolacombe, 5 mins drive.

15 minute drive to Illfracombe.

1.4 miles to Bull Point Lighthouse.

Easy access to the Tarka Trail and local bike hire.

Further Details:

Guests with young children are advised that while the roads into Mortehoe and Woolacombe are easily accessible with pushchairs, the coastal route is rather rugged and there are lots of steps. We advise using a baby carrier rather than a pushchair.
