If you want to experience Southern France first hand then there is nowhere better than the Languedoc, in which this traditional 19th Century wine growers house is situated. The house has been recently and lovingly renovated, keeping a lot of its original character and features but adding all the right touches to make this a perfect place to spend a holiday. The house is located in Aumes, a quiet and pretty village which sits a 5 minute drive from the ancient market town of Pezenas and 15 mins from the port of Meze (located on the Etange du Thau, a stunning inland sea famous for its oyster farms). Aumes has a rich history of its own, sitting very near to an ancient Roman camp, which is still evident today above the river Herault. Surrounding the village are beautiful vineyards that offer attractive walks and a huge selection of tempting wine tasting opportunities. The village has its own shop which caters for day to day needs and where you can get a coffee or glass of wine, sitting in the village square. The nearest supermarket is 5 minutes by car, or a very pleasant cycle ride past the vineyards will take you to Montagnac where all your essential needs can be met. The Languedoc region has an incredible amount to see and do, catering to everything from golf to distillery tours at the Noilly Prat factory, from the World UNESCO Heritage site of Carcassonne La Cite to the water jousting leagues of Meze. The river Herault is perfect for walking and canoeing. There is also a remote river beach for bathing and picnicing, on the Herault, just a short cycle ride to the north of the village. The accommodation is split over three levels. The spacious and beautifully designed kitchen-dining room and the cool and comfortable lounge are on the first floor, while just out of the large french doors in the kitchen is the sun terrace, with fantastic views, a large dining table and parasol and a BBQ. The kitchen has all the expected amenities, including a dishwasher, coffee machine, American style fridge/freezer with ice maker and cold water dispenser. The dining/kitchen is well stocked with crockery, glassware and dining and cookware. The lounge has a TV, DVD player and CD/MP3 player with UK television channels and a selection of DVDs, as well as books and information about the Languedoc area. Upstairs are the three bedrooms: the vast, romantic master bedroom, with king size bed, high ceilings, traditional French stone work, views of the vineyards and an en-suite bathroom. There are also two well furnished double bedrooms, one with an extra single bed and the second bathroom. If you head down the spiral staircase from the sun terrace you find yourself in the secluded walled garden surrounded by Mediterranean plants. The garden has a good sized swimming pool, sun loungers, a ping-pong table, dart board and an undercover, shady eating area, for those who have had too much sun. WIFI is provided in the house, if you wish to bring your own means to use it. The garden can also be accessed down the main staircase through the large ground floor garage.

Wonderfully relaxing, welcoming and stylish.

We had a wonderful 2 weeks in this property. The property itself is very tastefully decorated in a traditional chic French style. We found it very calming and relaxing and loved all the rustic features and beautiful views of the hills and vineyards beyond. The house itself was extremely clean and well equipped - we didn't want for anything. I was pleasantly surprised by the privacy of the house, the pool and courtyard was incredibly secluded and not overlooked. Equally pleasing was the fact that the pool area was safe and secure. With 4 and 5 years olds, both learning to swim, the lockable gate down to the poolside meant we could be assured the children could play safely on the top terrace, yet equally the pool safety alarm was very reassuring. The area was gorgeous. Beautiful runs/cycle rides through the small and safe country roads, surrounded by vineyards and lovely scenery. Some great little circuits locally. 30 minutes drive and we were enjoying the beautiful med beaches, again really clean and well serviced by lifeguards. If you are looking for a traditional a but stylish get away, with plenty to do locally, and yet still with complete relaxation and escapism if you want it...then this place is for you, with amazing weather to match. We'll see you again in summer 2016 - we're already booked in!

Lovely village centre house

We had a great time staying here for 2 weeks. The house is is very spacious and has all facilities that you would need on holiday. The rear upper level terrace is great in the evenings for a sundowner. The owner had left 4 bikes in the garage at the time we stayed which was really useful and we enjoyed the pool and table tennis. In addition the village has a teniss court very close by which you can just turn up and use, also floodlit in the evenings which was great. The village has a very handy shop and is really close to Pezenas and Montagnac. We were surprised at how lovely Pezenas was. The house has been very tastefully refurbished and furnished and all very clean. The owner was very helpful.

A characterful, stylish and comfortable house

A beautifully restored house with an imaginatively created garden garden/pool area, we had a great time here. The property is clean and comfortable and extremely well equipped and we especially loved the swimming pool. We enjoyed exploring the area and eating out some evenings both in Montagnac and in Pézenas, which is a larger town. Both are only a few minutes drive away, the market on Saturday morning in the streets of Pézenas is wonderful. For those interested in wine the area abounds with vineyards and wine producers of good quality wines where you can taste and buy the wines. Everyone was very cheerful and friendly, it was our first time in this part of France and we will certainly be returning.

The beaches of the Entange du Thau (inland sea) are a 15 minute drive away at Meze.

The Mediterranean coast is a 30 minute drive away.

Pezenas has a wonderful vibrant market on a Saturday, and has numerous brocantes, shops, bars and restaurants There are a number of large supermarkets, and various banks. Montagnac also has a few restaurants, take aways, a supermarket and is a 15 minute cycle ride through the vineyards.
