We have furnished the Cottage throughout in a rustic style in keeping with the age of the property but not at the expense of modern facilities. Hopefully you will find everything you would have in your own home: central heating and open fires, washing machine, dish washer, TV & Hi Fi, microwave, Rayburn cooker and electric oven, wireless broadband.

Special interest holidays:

We are within a few minutes drive of the beautiful Northumberland National Park for outstanding scenery and miles of walking. We have a good collection of maps and guides in the cottage. A short drive to the sea and you can discover the glorious Northumberland coastland and miles of empty sandy beaches.

Coast/Beach:

Alnmouth village on the coast is 14 miles away and the first port of call for access to the miles of sandy beaches for which the area is famed.

Travel:

The nearest train station is Alnmouth which offers direct services from London.

We are 36 miles from Newcastle and its airport and 82 miles from Edinburgh.

There is a local bus service serving the surrounding area but it is infrequent.

There are several good local taxi services operating out of Alnwick.

Distances:

Fifteen minute drive, eight miles from Alnwick and 36 miles from Newcastle. Edinburgh is 82 miles north up the A1

Further Details:

This sleepy rural village no longer has any shopping facilities and all shopping tends to be done in Alnwick 8 miles away where there are good supermarkets and other stores. In an emergency the petrol station in Powburn (3 miles) carries a good selection of essentials including food and drink

Changeover Day:
Access to the cottage is 4pm on Saturdays but to vacate the property by 10am on the Saturday at the end of your stay. (This allows time for our cleaner to tidy and prepare the beds).

Notes:

  • The Garden: The garden is laid to grass and fruit trees. The lawn slopes down to the river Aln, which although it is not deep nor swift in the village, would be a cause for concern for unsupervised children. Notes on accommodation: We do welcome pets but require that they do not get on the furniture nor go upstairs to the bedrooms. There is a private driveway which allows off road parking for two cars. Utility Room: Entrance hall acts as the Boot Room and hanging space for coats etc. There is also a useful outbuilding for bulkier storage. The shed also contains a second refrigerator and clothes dryer Cleaning / Towels / Linen : All bed linen is included in the price of your stay but we do ask you to bring personal towels etc. The house will be cleaned at the end of your stay but we do ask that the cottage is left clean and tidy at the end of your visit.
