About the Owner

Moyra Byford has been managing houses to a high standard for 20 years.

She has always loved Southwold since she first visited it as a small child. She bought 20 Pier Avenue 5 years ago and has been gradually upgrading it every year. She chooses the décor and furniture that makes her feel comfortable and hangs her own watercolour paintings in the cottage to give it a more homely feel. She understands and caters for the more mature visitor as that is the market that she knows best. She also understands the needs of the older visitor who needs a little help with getting about. 20 Pier Avenue is eminently suitable as there is a downstairs bedroom and shower room with toilet and hand basin so anyone who finds stairs difficult can find everything on the ground floor.

Having lived for 11 years in Southwold herself she has now moved 10 miles inland to Halesworth, she manages the cottage personally from there with the help of a local housekeeper and gardener. Sorry, she does not take pets or small children.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"Here is a cheque for the deposits for our 4 holidays with you in 2015. We are again both looking forward to our holidays in 20 Pier Avenue".

"I wanted to write to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay in your lovely cottage. We will be writing again soon to book for next year. I loved the paintings - particularly "The Red Beach Hut"."

Pier Avenue Southwold

Very nice house , useful off road parking. Bathroom floor creaks loudly , but you can always use the one downstairs to avoid waking your partner. General store close by and hotel that does food on the corner. Not far to walk into town.

Home from home in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This was a great holiday home. Well furnished, comfortable, spacious and just a short walk to Southwold town, pier and beaches. Spotlessly clean on arrival, the interior was all in excellent order and the house was light and bright. The kitchen made cooking from home very easy, as everything you could need was to hand.

A really well maintained patio area also meant we could sit outside, in what was glorious weather, and enjoy a glass of wine.

The parking space was a real bonus too, as the town was busy, but we never had to worry about hunting for a spot to park when we returned from our visits out to Snape Maltings, The Broads etc.

I am already looking at when we can revisit in 2017 with my sister and will be recommending this holiday home to my friends who also love Southwold.

From the Owner

There are so many things to do in the area that it is possible to park the car and forget it for a week and simply potter about the town or wander down to the harbour and across to Walberswick for the afternoon. In the evenings you will be spoilt for choice with cafes, pubs and restaurants and what could be nicer than a stroll back home along the prom after a good meal?
